Kid's birthday parties!

Two and a half hours at a Chuck E. Cheese and I'm reeling from a sugar rush comedown and constant sounds and sensory overload. In the early eighties this was genius; now, not so much. I think I shall collapse now.

Luna went through a kid birthday party experience recently and I think felt the same way. Describe your best or worst experiences, your own or someone else's.

so many jokes...

i haven't been to one since i was a child myself sadly. it would probably be fun now (not that it wasn't at the time).

Now that I've noticed this thread you don't have to explain as I asked on that other thread.

anyhow, there were some children's birthday parties (two I think) at the pizza/karoake joint last saturday. The fucked up part was these little boys that did monotone, uninspired renditions of "Baby Got Back," "Shook Me All Night Long," and "Wild Thing." Then two even more prepubescent little girls did the most ENTHUSIASTIC version of "Like A Virgin" I've ever heard. Having these kids up front made it rather hard to pull off "Lady In Red" but I did my best.

I really hope they're not there tonight.

Though the guy whose thunder was most stolen by the surprisingly horny children was the guy who sang "Back In Black" right after the droning "Shook Me All Night Long." Unlike the kids he actually attempted the Brian Johnston voice, which unfortunately came off like someone stepping on a chihuahua repeatedly.

One day my ex said, "Hey, let's have dinner at Chuck E. Cheese!" And his friend said "Yeah!" And I said "Um... I'm not sure that's such a good idea." And he said "But it's my birthday!" So I said sure, what the heck.

We get there and.

And.

Oh my god it was horrible. It was super low rent, just this small building with all these bright plastic booths. Children everywhere, screaming, and these really high ceilings so everything echoed and echoed. It was louder than the airport. The children kept running... We look at the menu. They have pizza, cheese and pepperoni. That is all. It looks overpriced. It also looks inedible. It doesn't even look like it would make a good weapon. The arcade section, which from what I remember of the Chuck E. Cheeses of my youth, was generally glorious, here consist of, like, two or three video games that the nickel arcade rejected.

We stand there, mouths open, dizzy and sweating. A zit-embossed teenager comes up to us, and, with all the excitement and happiness of a zombie doing the third shift at a 24-hour Wal-Mart, asks us if we want a seat.

We pause, and then run back to the car, screaming.

See, at least we had a few more games and options yesterday (I had the world's most indifferent chicken sandwich, but hey). But not much.

Man, when I was a kid, we kept having birthday parties at Chuck E. Cheese for pretty much as long as we had birthday parties -- cause it was the biggest arcade around, with the newest games (except Double Dragon). Granted, that was the sticks, and that was the 80s, and I've been to movie theaters with more video games since.

i dont know how to link it but i started a thread on this about indoor fake playgrounds. they suck, and attending kids parties at them is a nightmare.

I went to my godson's b/day party recently. Admitedly we arrived a bit later & there were that many kids still there, but enough! I loved it, we just all sat round watching the kids, which at times was hilarious.
