I have an imac running system 9 and protools is telling me it may have a fragmented hard drive. Isn't there a defragmenting program that comes with the mac, or do I have to get norton utilities?

You have to get Norton Utilities

Yes, Hanle y's answer is longer than mine, but he's probably just overcompensating.

I wonder if there is always something naughty "just to the right " on all web pages. I should scroll more

Mike Hanle y (mike), Monday, 22 September 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

cheapest way I can think of doing this, if you CAN borrow an external drive, is back everything up, start up from a bootable CD as system, re-init yr disk and copy it all back again.

Alan (Alan), Monday, 22 September 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

but copy it back in a logical order, i.e do the audio files you are working on last so they get put towards the free space
