Richard Littlejohn - The British Ann Coulter?

He resorts to the same sort of name calling when faced with an argument he can't handle, and thus his own arguments are stricken with the ad hominem fallacy. He blames "asylum seekers", "guardianistas", "social workers" without really bothering to explain why. so when can he be atomised?

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Monday, 22 September 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ann Coulter does at least seem to have a glimmer of intelligence.

Ed (dali), Monday, 22 September 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i was about to say the same - while ann coulter is objectionable, at leat she has had the nous to carve out a career in an area other than vile polemic, whci would point to her actually being pretty clever. littlejohn is just a cunt.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 22 September 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

My mate Ben (who is a black student and who's single mum is a white lesbian) loves Littlejohn (and Jeremy Clarkson too) and to this day I can't figure out if he's taking the piss or if he agrees.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 22 September 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeremy Clarkson has never been racist to my knowledge, a misogynist Neanderthal twat clearly.

Do you remember the Littlejohn v Will Self radio interview?

Littlejohn: But you haven't read the book in its totality and you have to read the book in its totality.
Self: Why?
Littlejohn: In order to understand it.
Self: Does it turn into Tolstoy at page 205?
Littlejohn: No it doesn't turn into Tolstoy. I don't set out to be Tolstoy. It is a much more complex book than that.

thankfully the bbc archived it for just such an occasion

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Monday, 22 September 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

is richard littlejohn a pretty little skank overwilted parsnip?
therein lies coulters 'appeal'..any sort of white trash could have her opinions, but it's her appearance that provides coverage.

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 01:38 (twenty-two years ago)

the thing with littlejohn is he isnt physically attractive at all. and since his arguments lack substance beyond name-calling, its difficult to see why he is on television or allowed to write columns for The Sun at all.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

he once called David Icke 'as soppy as a box of frogs'

to which Icke retorted 'if you had a brain cell it would die of loneliness' - then stormed off the show.

the Will Self/Littlejohn thing was entertaining - RL didn't really have a leg to stand on, passing his book off as mere 'entertainment to annoy Guardian-reading self-appointed media commentators' was quite pathetic. why would you write a book just to do that? sure he was being facetious/sarcastic but what's the point in that either? he had a chance to defend the book but failed completely. although i shouldn't really comment as i haven't read it, heh...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

he had a point abt david icke tho...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

He's allowed to write for the Sun because his tone fits the rag perfectly. Mom used to read it, but she finally managed to quit. The last bilge I heard from him was just before she did, during the Iraq mess... she read me a few bits from it, and he was equating anti-war sentiment with support for Saddam Hussein. Let's give him some credit: it's almost impossible to make an intelligent response to arguments like that.

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

as i said, the man's a cunt. however, i find it amazing that he accuses the "metropolitan elite" of sloganeering etc... that's all he ever does. a clear-cut case of pots and kettles...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

exactly, and to illustrate the point:
LITTLEJOHN: This is typical of the self-regarding, self-appointed metropolitan elite. If you don't agree with them they don't engage you in argument, they throw slogans at you.

so "self-regarding, self-appointed metropolitan elite" isn't a slogan right?

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

precisely - he is mnot as clever as ann coulter and, crucially, coulter really does use sex to raise her profile - see the pictures of her: blonde in skimpy clothes posing with gun (also read as phallus) etc, she's a right-winger's wet dream. i can't imagine anyone fancying littlejohn ever and the image of him in a thong is the stuff of nightmares.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)
