I've always imagined it to be black. How about you?

Obviously it looks like this:

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Does it matter?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 01:12 (twenty-two years ago)

somehow i've always seen it as fuschia, blue, and normal-cat-colored at the same time. although when i've actually THOUGHT about the color i guess it's gray.

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The colour of DEATH.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

At last a sensible question. It's clearly going to be a Cheshire Cat:

How could you know?

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 23 September 2003 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn! He's right.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Well this time he's right. Maybe if we do the experiment again he won't be.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 04:04 (twenty-two years ago)

coz we put the damn cat in there!

is how we'd know.

alive is such a slippery concept anyway.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 04:07 (twenty-two years ago)

It's only Schrodinger's cat so long as it's in the box. After that, it's either a dead cat or a living cat.

Girolamo Savonarola, Tuesday, 23 September 2003 04:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Does Schrodinger know about that? I think he's become a bit attached to it.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course, Einstein would say that in a causal universe, there can be no purr puss.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

after its out then you're schrodinger's dude who's happy or sad depending on the state of the cat but neither until someone opens the door to the room. etc.

The colour of schroedinger's cat can only be truly determined as in relation to the device used for measuring the frequency of light vibrations reflected from it's surface...so the cat is obviously black duh.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

and she said... black is not a color, black is the absence of color.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

(Quick, someone else make a Cheshire Cat joke!)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I imagine it to be somewhere between purplish green and bluish orange.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

What colour was Schrodinger Hat?

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

The colour of schroedinger's cat can only be truly determined as in relation to the device used for measuring the frequency of light vibrations reflected from it's surface...so the cat is obviously black duh.

So if the cat was white and we used red light to look at it youd say the cat was red? Pop physics hurts my brain.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually agree that the cat is black.
Y'see, the moment a photon of light contacts the cat, it changes the cats state. Thus if enough photons hit the cat, it will overheat and catch on fire, burn into a pile of cinders, and thus be black.

I know cats, but who is this Schrodinger fellow?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

And does this have anything to do with Pavlov's horndogs?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 23 September 2003 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I read that as 'Pavlov's corndogs'... maybe it's time for lunch.
