Lots of chat about the music blogosphere this week - are there any others? A books blogosphere? A comics one? A TV one? A videogames one? What is it about music that has lent itself to doing this?

This intriguing discussion -

http://forum.extra-life.org.uk/messages.php?msg=962.1

- suggests that no such thing exists for videogames at least.

maybe people don't those other media to heart as much as they do music

My immediate, totally-not-thought-through response is that videogamers are more likely to prefer message boards to blogging. I'm fairly sure that there will be lots of book-related blogging communities, though.

I seem to remember littleyellowdifferent linking to a video game review blog that was all written by gay guys.

I really don't think there's a commitment thing about videogames - sites like http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com and http://www.shoryuken.com display worrying levels of taking to heart. But they're in a tiny subculture, so micropolitics can probably explain that. Stuff like the lack of a TV blogosphere is more interesting. Thought required.

Or we could ask one. Dom Passantino to thread!

A comics one?

Yup, though I think it's a fair bit smaller than the music one. See http://www.tcj.com/journalista/ for an example, and some links to others.

Here's where you can start with the experimental (and otherwise) poetry blogosphere: http://ronsilliman.blogspot.com/

A few years back there was a pretty big anime-and-videogames 'blogosphere', female-dominated and with a high proportion of fanfiction writers, the emphasis was gaming, impressions of different anime series, discussions of manga, and all that. Unfortunately, it's pretty much died out now, a lot of sites going down and people moving to livejournal. (LJ's comments function pretty much heralded the end: you didn't get so much separate discussions conducted by linking across as discussion in someone's comments, which meant less readership crossover, less new people, etcetera. Plus being on LJ seemed to encourage people to write less meta, more personal-life stuff.) But it was pretty cool while it lasted.

TV fandom seems to be much more message-board based than anything else, in places like the television without pity forums.

I sort of expect a 'blogosphere' for games, comics, music, etc. - they seem to have the kind of fans who are comfortable theorising about the object of their fandom.

there's something of a literature/politics/poerty/art/photography blogsphere that i always mean to investigate further from the blog at
consumptive.org and http://www.ncf.ca/%7Eek867/wood_s_lot.html

every time i go to one of those sites theres some great stuff, for example a link to photos of the construction of the trans-siberian railway,or some interesting city i know nothing about, and there seems to be loads of similar sites...

it is a blogsphere in that they all link to each other, but there doesn't seem to be anything like the level of discussion/dialogue between the blogs, hardly any at all,in fact...

as i said,i always mean to spend more time at these sites, they seem very interesting, but i don't know a huge amount about them...
certainly worth a look...

you didn't mention the lack of a movies blogosphere! which I want now! though I guess I'd have to start one myself, which I probably won't have time for in the next little while at least.

With video games, sites like Penny Arcade tend to build their own communities (through discussion forums) which would take the place of a 'blogosphere'.
