Countryside: Classic or Dud

No, this isn't a repeat question. I'm talking about another greenspun forum that beats ILM and ILE into a cocked hat when it comes to posting stats. My favourite recent threads:

Toilet Bowl Sweating

My Older chickens are eating my bale chicken tractor!

What's your experience with composting toilets?

and, my personal favourite:

How do you remove blood from love seat?

This all sounds much more entertaining than discussions of doompatrol. What do you think? Shall we decamp en masse?

NO 1
Because i do not think that they no anything about Frank O'Hara or Rachel Whiteread

Well it wouldn't hurt to ask.

"I've got a huge plaster cast of a house cluttering up my veg patch. Can anyone advise?"

Nick, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not to mention

my older chickens are eating my bale chicken tractor! that's the thing with chickens isn't it as they get older they get meaner just like us, except some of us get cute sometimes too I remember Harold Schweiss saying something to me about chickens how he used to keep chickens in Poughkeepsie and it was hard, not because of the tractor, but just because of all the attention that they required I haven't seen Harold in a while and I've never been to Poughkeepsie.

I have to say, all of this reminds me of the parody of _The Good Life_ on that one _Young Ones_ episode.

"No no no, Rick, you don't understand the timeless wonder of the whole thing...*WE*...sow the seed!"

Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Quite magnificently boring, on the whole, but frighteningly busy.

Some interesting discussions lurking beneath all the "Border Collie puppies for sale" stuff, though. The uk.people.rural newsgroup is the closest British equivalent to this I've encountered, and I have to say I enjoyed it much more, but that's probably because it was more *relevant*.

Robin Carmody, Friday, 29 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

To clarify: more relevant to *me*, that is.

I saw this gorup a couple of weeks ago and was most amused. Especially by the question from the woman whose animals keep dying. A few nice messages of support followed by a suggestion that they are actually being poisoned. Followed by a revelation that yes - there was an old farm help which she hadn't paid for six months who might just about have a bit of a grudge against her. Classic stuff.

Its the Big Brother of the future.

65 threads on hogs!

"What is happening with my chicken?" (Ans: it is about to die)

And the single mother farming commune! What a group. I bet the Heath Ledger Chat Room and Large Format Photography are green with envy.

In an effort to spread inter-group respect on LUSENET I took the liberty of posting a question from Countryside again on HeathLedger - find out what happened here.

Tanya, Wednesday, 4 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tanya, more cross posting please. Hmm, why not something from the Heath Ledger Group on I Love Music - or are you banned from that board.

Pete, Wednesday, 4 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I looked at that link and thought that the result was very funny indeed. But who the heck is 'Heath Ledger'?

the pinefox, Wednesday, 4 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Heath Ledger - young Australian actor. Best known for his starring role in the ensemble teen comedy 10 Things I Hate About You (see the John Hughes thread for more details). Plays - in a no-brainer way - Mel Gibson's son in the so piss poor its excrable The Patriot. Currently to be seen in A Knights Tale, an odd amalgam of sports movie and Chaucer which features Robbie Williams and Queen together on the same record.

The young ladies rather fancy him I believe.

Pete, Wednesday, 4 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I misread the name as 'health ledger' and looked at the list of topics, expecting to find a set of dry, medical records-related discussions. Imagine my surprise when I found out what those medical record-keepers really get up to!

Tim, Wednesday, 4 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

a heath ledger sounds like something you might find in a shed

gareth, Wednesday, 4 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Had that chicken thread been placed on ILE, would the results have been so different? Some advice, some mocking, some raving about Pappa John, and someone gets called a retard...
