In Praise of Helena Bonham Carter

Well, not really. Actually, a serious question. Does it seem that the responses to such posts as pics of the above referenced actress or such charmingly dada-ist, yet harmless, posts by the ineffable AMAZING RANDY are being met with a response that can only be described as shrill? Or pathological even, the kind of response one would expect to overtly racist or sexist or threatening posts, rather than posts that are at worst, off topic, not funny, or just not gotten by everyone. Just wondering. Or is this board simply reserved for posts of dressed-up kittens and questions like, "what color should I dye my hair today because I'm the only person in my office that does any work?" Your thoughts appreciated.

I think H B-C posted on some threads and THE AMAZING RANDY started some.

Wah? Helena was HERE?!?

nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 27 September 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

if you had posted that as 'trife' then there might have been 300 posts by tomorrow morning.

I hope you have learned yr lesson and hope you'll do better next time.

(a.) I like the "Helena Bonham-Carter" poster, but I'd like that poster a LOT more if he/she were to focus in on more of H B-C's stuff. You know, take over her entire persona, not just that of a singular movie.

(b.) I have a severe aversion to people who shout a lot online. It hurts my ears -- well, it doesn't, really, but it would if they were really talking that way. Besides, Amazing Randy's not amazing enough to make sense half the time. ;)

Just my $0.04.

isn't she aristocracy or something?

amazing randy would be more fun if he could prove his amazingness and not use all-caps.

I think Helena B to the C is some sort of minor aristo. Her, probabably, grandfather, even g.grandfather, was something during the war, or one of the Evelyn Waugh-Tony (call me Colin) Powell set. I think.

No doubt the same applies to THE AMAZING RANDY. I think his great grandfather WAS Evelyn Waugh. I mean for parties and that sort of thing, of course.

Her great-grandfather was Lord Asquith, liberal Prime Minister between 1908 and 1916. Her grandmother was Violet Bonham Carter, a renowned politician, orator and member of the House Of Lords (an excellent female role model), while her grand-uncle was Anthony Asquith, legendary English director of such classics as Carrington VC and The Importance Of Being Earnest.
