Mars Bars - Classic or Dud?

They're smaller than they used tobe, but I like them more now. Supposedly they made them smaller and less filling so chicks would like them. Is this ludicrous piffle?

it's abt money not sex: they'll get bigger when the price goes up, then gradually smallen back off again

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 27 September 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't understand.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 27 September 2003 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

mars bars are weird in that they seem to be different each time i eat one
you'd assume they'd all be exactly the same but they don't seem to,it is possible to but a nice mars bar one day, and, encouraged by this purchase,to buy another the next day and find that it is fairly horrible and you don't know why you bothered
also fun size mars are always nicer that the normal size ones

robin (robin), Saturday, 27 September 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

for some reason i prefer to cut them up into little bits and eat them that way rather than just biting off the bar.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 27 September 2003 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

also do they not have them in america,or are they different,or something
i heard the product sold as mars bars in america are actually ("actually") milky ways or something

robin (robin), Saturday, 27 September 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't that what girls are supposed to do? ;)
There was that whole theory that men like bars - big, solid food for manly men - and women prefer stuff like buttons and minstrels - ooh, i'll just have one~! - but I don't know if anyone actually did any research or they just made it up on the fly.

Mars bars are too heavysweet for me, in general. Tho' putting them in the freezer and then cutting them up and eating them bit by bit == k-classic.

cis (cis), Saturday, 27 September 2003 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i used to go to this snooker hall where the snack selection consisted of crisps or mars bars, but if you were in the know you could also ask for a mars bar "from the fridge"

robin (robin), Sunday, 28 September 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks for calling my masculinity into question cis, i could do with being taken down a manly peg or two

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 28 September 2003 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't take this anymore, i'm off to write in my diary and play with some kittens

minna (minna), Sunday, 28 September 2003 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Mars Bars from the fridge....I've got into them whilst I've been on holiday in Hong Kong, but I'll robably lose interest when I'm back in dear old blighty.

They have shrunk haven't they? I'm not imagining it?

Bob Six (bobbysix), Sunday, 28 September 2003 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

the first time I heard about mars bars was from a tv commercial for them featuring jamie farr and I remember being excited cuz jamie farr was involved and cuz I thought 'a candy bar - but with nuts' was a good idea (at the time the only candy bars I think I was familiar with were hershey's and butterfinger).

That's the weirdest picture of Jamie Farr I've ever seen.

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 28 September 2003 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

he looks distinguished, as befits a gentleman

cinniblount (James Blount), Sunday, 28 September 2003 06:59 (twenty-two years ago)

He looks like he just got off the set of The Bing Crosby Story, Starring Jamie Farr As Tony Randall!

Never cared about Mars Bars. The only candy bar that really got motor running back in the day was called "Whatchamacallit." But then they changed it and added caramel and maybe some other stuff and you know what, I'll tell you whatchamacallit, you macallit a piece of shit, was my response.

Has anyone ever tried melting them to add to vanilla ice? It seems to be deee-lish-us

nathalie (nathalie), Sunday, 28 September 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread is about the mars bar that doesn't have nuts.

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 28 September 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

just about every chocolate bar in the states seeems to have nuts in it bleurgh- they have much better names though!

jed (jed_e_3), Sunday, 28 September 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Apparently Mars Bars don't really sell very well and act only as a corporate figurehead for Mars Confectionery Inc. (much like Mickey Mouse being chosen as the emblem of Disney even though no one cares about him and much prefers Donald Duck and Pete's Dragon). As a result, the Mars Bars you see on sale have a shelf life of 6-7 years. Volumes are so low that they are hand made, which would explain the wide variation in quality that Robin notes above.

Oh, the images.

We used to do lots of research for Mars. I can't remember all the boring conclusions we came to. The Mars company is a rum do though. Again I'm not totally sure why but if you imagined our client list as a village they would be the weird old man with weeds up to the door who had several thousand pounts stuffed in his chimney.

Tom (Groke), Sunday, 28 September 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

a rum do?

cinniblount (James Blount), Sunday, 28 September 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, a rum do (do do rum rum).

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 28 September 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i think Snoop Dogg should incorporate 'rum do' into his vocabulizzle

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Did Slick Rick get there first? Will Mike Skinner use it and will we all get bored?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Melted Mars bars added to Rice Krispies = lovely rice krispie cakes

Best way to eat a Mars bar is straight from the fridge - hit it with a heavy object (such as a book) and all the chocolate on the top cracks. Then you can pick off the shards of chocolate to eat first, then you peel off the caramel bit and roll it up to eat next, then you cut the main part up into little tiny chunks with a swiss army knife. You can make a Mars bar last all day this way. I don't get out much.

C J (C J), Sunday, 28 September 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

"that is not the best way to eat a mars bar" -

the Mars Bars you see on sale have a shelf life of 6-7 years.

Well that explains why half of them taste like malted cardboard...
