I like hugs.

Who's with me?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 28 September 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

and i just wanna say that any you hug-hatin' foolz just better step off, knowumsayin'?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Sunday, 28 September 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I dreamt I was giving Tim from The Office a real big hug and we were both loving it. I wanted to hug my line manager when I finished at work but a manly handshake was considered more appropriate. I like big hugs because they're a gesture of approval and affection and I like being approved of and affectionéd.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Sunday, 28 September 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Hugs at inappropriate times are great.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 28 September 2003 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to admit I've wanted a hug from this woman since I first heard about her.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 28 September 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

That woman who hugged the Queen a few years ago: Classic.

Chris P (Chris P), Sunday, 28 September 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Heaven, I need a hug.

Nicolars (Nicole), Monday, 29 September 2003 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

a cyberhug?

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 29 September 2003 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

*hugs nicole*

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 29 September 2003 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

*big group hug*

I want to hug Amma now too, teeny. We must endeavor to complete that task.

btw, hugs = mega-, ultra-classic. Thing is, though, I never get as many hugs as I'd like IRL. I get more cyberhugs than real hugs, sadly enough. *laugh*

Legendary Nothingness (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 29 September 2003 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh that Amma thing...I dunno if she's a fake, but there are lots of skeptics regarding her story or whatever. I wonder how exactly they're keeping track of how many people she's hugged, i meanit says "21 million," how would they know

Vic (Vic), Monday, 29 September 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Is there anybody out there willing to embrace a thug?

Nicolars (Nicole), Monday, 29 September 2003 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I love hugs.

I love to give them.

I love to receive them.

I love to watch others giving and receive them.

BUT

I hate those 'faux hugs' with the simpering pats on the back and virtually no physical contact.

A 'real' hug involves an embrace and the feeling of the other body and hearing their heart-beat and feeling their respirations.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Monday, 29 September 2003 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, i need a hug to start out the week.

and yet, i'm not hugging any o' these people in this office. who wants to fly to detroit metro to give me a hug? i'll buy you nachos...

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I could do with one.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup, hugs are the new black.

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

*buys plane ticket to Detroit*

[oh boy do I wish I could, hon -- I could do with lots of hugs at the moment]

Legendary Nothingness (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

hugs are absolutely the best thing in the world ever. they're hugely underrated and quite possibly my favourite thing in the world. sadly, i'm not getting anywhere near enough at the moment

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Hugs SCHMUGS!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Hug the same chick too many times and you won't get the pussy. Fact.

dave q, Monday, 29 September 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

how many times is too many... what if you are hugging your partner/wife/whatever? surely this blows that theory out of the water...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

well, call i do it until i just need glasses?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

well, CAN i do it until i just need glasses, rather?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 29 September 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

really good hugs > mediocre sex

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

What if you don't actually want to have sex with the person you're hugging?

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

What if you do?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

And having released the first of my inner perv moments for today, I really would like to give y'all hugs today.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 September 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I just meant in terms of general physical/physiological pleasure, not like implying getting a sexual thrill from a hug.

Also: what's up with guys who aren't comfortable with hugging other guys?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 29 September 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Hugging ain't my sort of thing. I dread social hugging.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 29 September 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like a hug now, please.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 September 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

hugs are awesome but i never hug other guys, have once or twice as a 'see you in six months' thing but that's it.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 September 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

hugging people with cooties = dud (because then you would get cooties)

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 29 September 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

*hugs luna*

Legendary Nothingness (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 29 September 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

*hugs Dee back*

Thanks darlin.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 29 September 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

yo! hugs over here, too, please!

TWEEEST THREAD EVER

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

aw, nuts to you, Sideshow Dan Perry!

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

don't mess with Dan 'Cuddlykins' Perry

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

TWEEEST THREAD EVER

are there really three consecutive es in "tweeest"? guess i never thought about it before.

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i had a hard day yesterday and my buddy gave me a hug. i need a hug now. someone give me a hug.
etc

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Tweetiest thread ever.

http://www.toonopedia.com/tweety.jpg

And of course hugs rule, they do. :-) *gives them to those in need*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't remember the last time I was involved in a hug.

oops (Oops), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

hearing their heart-beat

Ack! I really really can't stand hearing heartbeats. Not even my own. My heart tries to "catch up" with what I'm hearing and it's really uncomfortable.

Anth, of course you are welcome to a hug. Have two, they're small.

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

ilx has become an office party fuck you all

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, put up that picture again! (Somehow, a red x just doesn't give off those warm vibes....)

Hugs are mighty, and I am scribbling out a prescription of five per soul on this thread.

(How mighty? I even write them into email, so recipients get their share...

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Fritz needs lots and lots of hugs. And maybe a few drinks.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Fritz! How goes it?

I get some hugs at school. Some kids are very affectionate-needy. We are warned not to touch/hug kiddos but I can't turn them down.

Our bartender at Oodles of Noodles is the best hugger ever. He's like a dad and likes to pick me up and throw me over his shoulder. Love hugging him.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I hugged Andrew WK last night. Sweet!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

is this true? oh my god.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i love hugs, they are great when you are happy, they are great when you are sad. I love them, I couldn't live without them. hugs all round!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

The Andrew WK thing? It's completely true, if you wait after one of his gigs he will always come out and sign stuff and chat. The venue were making noises so he ended up eventually moving outside into the corner of the entrance, where he signed stuff and chatted for an hour and a half. When you give him a ticket or anything to sign, he will cover the whole thing in neat felt-tip writing. He is a prince.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Hugs are great.

Haven't had one for a while though. A few weeks maybe. :-(

mei (mei), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

You must have been soaking afterwards, Andrew.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

My t-shirt had dried completely, which was ace, because then he could draw on it!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

the last hug i had was from my mum, at the bus stop, on sunday afternoon.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

The last hug i had was last nite, as I was feeling down after some bad news. I had a lot of them actually, they were much needed.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

*hugs Kingfish and Anthony E*

*hugs whole of thread, despite protestations from a few*

*hugs the world*

*has scarily turned into a hippie-type figure*

btw, the last "real" hug I've had was on Sunday during the "sign of peace" portion of the Mass. They were more like half-hugs, though.

Legendary Nothingness (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I force hugs on someone all the time, that'll teach that ICE QUEEN.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I fundamentally don't trust people who can't hug. Yet I like Jel. Sigh.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

hugs are better than drugs, yo.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I think hugs are probably a wonderful thing, but I am casting my mind back quite a long way... :-(

ChrissieH (chrissie1068), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I could use a hug, or even a face to face conversation.

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Haven't had one for a while though. A few weeks maybe. :-(

Mei, I've just given you five cyber-hugs. Aren't as good as real live vintage, but tis a start.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

If I could hug Andrew WK, my life would be so fucking complete, it'd be kind of a waste of my time to ever hug anyone again. Where do you even go from there? Maybe Dick Valentine but really Andrew WK would be more fun to hug.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

If by "hug Andrew WK" you mean "[unspeakably violent verb] Andrew WK", I agree HA HA I AM WITTY DO YOU SEE???????????????

Dan and Ned simultaneously (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Does it say more about you or about me that I immediately replaced "[unspeakably violent verb]" with "fuck"?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Them.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

About both of you, I'd say (or is that "all three of you"?) Anyway, tis a major cloning experiment gone awry.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Heavens! I kill you know ;-)

Danedaned (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Like I said, dammit. Watch while the long hair grows out of the creature's ears.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Danedaned owes me a new monitor.

*wipes up water spray with a towel*

Legendary Nothingness (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

We owe you nothing. We are our own Forbin Project. We are Skeksis and Mystics. We are one.

*hums the lost chord*

Danedaned (Ned), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

Consoling hugs from near-stranger-authority-figures open up this bizarre part of me that make me feel like a five-year-old taking her first step off a cliff.

The hug palette is a singular thing.

Abbott, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 01:39 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

haha:

Girls embracing girls, girls embracing boys, boys embracing each other — the hug has become the favorite social greeting when teenagers meet or part these days. Teachers joke about “one hour” and “six hour” hugs, saying that students hug one another all day as if they were separated for the entire summer.

A measure of how rapidly the ritual is spreading is that some students complain of peer pressure to hug to fit in. And schools from Hillsdale, N.J., to Bend, Ore., wary in a litigious era about sexual harassment or improper touching — or citing hallway clogging and late arrivals to class — have banned hugging or imposed a three-second rule.

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 28 May 2009 14:06 (seventeen years ago)

the concerned adults in that article all sound like hank hill to me.

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 28 May 2009 14:07 (seventeen years ago)

"look, i know we said 'HUGS NOT DRUGS.' but we didn't really mean HUGS. we just needed to rhyme with DRUGS."

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 28 May 2009 14:07 (seventeen years ago)

I seem to recall reading not too long ago about a Chicago suburban junior high that had actually banned hugs from school hallways.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 28 May 2009 15:44 (seventeen years ago)

Those fucking kids! God, how AREN'T our kids assing things up these days?

cant go with u too many alfbrees (Abbott), Thursday, 28 May 2009 15:50 (seventeen years ago)

You can't make this up:

“And there doesn’t seem to be any other overt way in which they acknowledge knowing each other,” she continued, describing the scene at her older son’s school in Manhattan. “No hi, no smile, no wave, no high-five — just the hug. Witnessing this interaction always makes me feel like I am a tourist in a country where I do not know the customs and cannot speak the language."

Bud Huxtable (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 28 May 2009 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

Ray the Otter. (captain rosie), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 16:12 (fifteen years ago)

I gave a free hug to a total stranger today. A bunch of schoolkids had run across the road together at a busy junction and some lady came around the corner on a green light and drove her car straight into them. Kind of a miracle that no-one died but one girl had quite a mashed-up foot. I think the driver should have probably gone for the brake instead of blasting her horn beforehand, but she was that distraught about the whole thing that a hug seemed like the right thing to do instead of yelling at her.

immer wieder, ralf & günther (NickB), Wednesday, 25 May 2011 16:23 (fifteen years ago)

that is so awesome and so sweet of you. truly
