I want to hug Amma now too, teeny. We must endeavor to complete that task.
btw, hugs = mega-, ultra-classic. Thing is, though, I never get as many hugs as I'd like IRL. I get more cyberhugs than real hugs, sadly enough. *laugh*

I love to give them.
I love to receive them.
I love to watch others giving and receive them.
BUT
I hate those 'faux hugs' with the simpering pats on the back and virtually no physical contact.
A 'real' hug involves an embrace and the feeling of the other body and hearing their heart-beat and feeling their respirations.

I get some hugs at school. Some kids are very affectionate-needy. We are warned not to touch/hug kiddos but I can't turn them down.
Our bartender at Oodles of Noodles is the best hugger ever. He's like a dad and likes to pick me up and throw me over his shoulder. Love hugging him.

btw, the last "real" hug I've had was on Sunday during the "sign of peace" portion of the Mass. They were more like half-hugs, though.

Consoling hugs from near-stranger-authority-figures open up this bizarre part of me that make me feel like a five-year-old taking her first step off a cliff.
The hug palette is a singular thing.
― Abbott, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 01:39 (eighteen years ago)
haha:
Girls embracing girls, girls embracing boys, boys embracing each other — the hug has become the favorite social greeting when teenagers meet or part these days. Teachers joke about “one hour” and “six hour” hugs, saying that students hug one another all day as if they were separated for the entire summer.
A measure of how rapidly the ritual is spreading is that some students complain of peer pressure to hug to fit in. And schools from Hillsdale, N.J., to Bend, Ore., wary in a litigious era about sexual harassment or improper touching — or citing hallway clogging and late arrivals to class — have banned hugging or imposed a three-second rule.

"look, i know we said 'HUGS NOT DRUGS.' but we didn't really mean HUGS. we just needed to rhyme with DRUGS."
I seem to recall reading not too long ago about a Chicago suburban junior high that had actually banned hugs from school hallways.

You can't make this up:
“And there doesn’t seem to be any other overt way in which they acknowledge knowing each other,” she continued, describing the scene at her older son’s school in Manhattan. “No hi, no smile, no wave, no high-five — just the hug. Witnessing this interaction always makes me feel like I am a tourist in a country where I do not know the customs and cannot speak the language."

I gave a free hug to a total stranger today. A bunch of schoolkids had run across the road together at a busy junction and some lady came around the corner on a green light and drove her car straight into them. Kind of a miracle that no-one died but one girl had quite a mashed-up foot. I think the driver should have probably gone for the brake instead of blasting her horn beforehand, but she was that distraught about the whole thing that a hug seemed like the right thing to do instead of yelling at her.
