Mid-Season Jacket

It's a tricky time of year, not cold enough for a heavy jacket but brisk enough that you need something. Not particularly liking suede or leather puts me in a bit of a quandry. What do you do? What would you do? I have a couple of jean jackets but they are not always warm enough.

I love zippered sweaters and hoodies for the in-between seasons, and jean jackets + form-fitting sweaters usually work out really well too.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 29 September 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

(I mean "form-fitting" cuz if you wear loose/baggy sweaters with jean jackets you get the funky sweater-chunks-hanging-out-the-ends-of-the-sleeve fiasco, and that just won't do.)

get a fun colored members-only'ish jacket

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 29 September 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been wearing my suede jacket, it make me look a little too smart though.

Samll hoodie + jean jacket is usually a good look and warm.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 29 September 2003 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

BLAZER

(a horse-y-colored one, with buttons that flop over a bit, perhaps cut in at the waist, perhaps seen in Ralph Lauren ads?; maybe what I'm thinking of has a different name for girls?)

(I could use an answer to this myself)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 29 September 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

and maybe what I'm thinking about is suede, but I don't see why it wouldn't work in corduroy or (lightweight?) wool

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 29 September 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Hoodies are nice and toasty and lightweight.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 29 September 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

1) bodywarmer

and/or

2) heavyweight sportcoat worn as a jacket (today's is navy with gold buttons per gabbneb)

and/or

3) scarf + gloves.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 29 September 2003 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, hoodies are where it's at. I used to wear my unlined leather jacket too, which was awesome, but I left it along with my heavy leather jacket at my old apartment and I fear it's gone forever. :(

Mary, now is your opportunity to dare with the shawl.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I suppose the blue blazer thing might punch the school uniform chad, but I was thinking more like tweed or, y'know, brown. I'll shut up now.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i like roomy, longish cardigans... in weather like this i pair them with lighter shirts (sleeveless or v. short sleeve) and i achieve that autumnal stylishness while not feeling too stuffy.

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I think blazer is where I'm heading; will I look silly in a velvet/velveteen one? The other option is curduroy, but I fear the head-to-toe cordage.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to break out my blue plaid trench coat soon - otherwise a bunch of bright vests, or my jean jacket.. and I got a lemon tweed 3-4 sleeve vintage jacket the other day, that should be good fun.

daria g (daria g), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Express is having a sale right now (hey, I'm in the midwest!) and I got a great burgundy cotton velvet jacket that looks like Prince could have worn it in the 80s.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with JBR on this one ... cardigans are one of the world's greatest inventions. And even better with the short-sleeved or no-sleeved shirt underneath ... warm but not too warm, cool but not too cool. Absolutely perfect.

I actually have lots and lots of cardigans and blazers and other such 'not snowing but still chilly' weather items. And the only time I get to wear them is when I drive across the country to go home for Christmas. Of course, they don't wear out this way.

wind breakers!

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I probably have about 20 cardigans, they're definitely a good way to go but I generally have to wear a jacket with it anyway, I get chills easily. I found a great vintage cardigan, cream cashmere with a white fur collar on it!

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to be careful of wearing short-sleeved Ts with cardigans, there can be strange line issues where the sleeves are.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Or the t-shirt bunches up at the shoulders!

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

you could have someone knit you a collar, like those on 'skivvies', that buttons up at back or front. when i'm wearing a 'jean jacket' my neck's the thing that makes me feel cold, especially in the mild coolness of autumn/fall. a scarf is too much for this time of year and annoyingly large when you inevitably wanna take it off; a knitted collar is warm and small. they were quite popular with one segment of the population when i lived in nz. a friend made them out of felt too, which looked great and was plenty warm.

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

my new corduroy coat is quite mid-seasonesque.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, corduroy certainly has that quality - but can be toasty too when necessary.

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got a cardigan and this hella nice vintage brown pleather phat-lapelled almost-knee-length jacket on today, it's warm and when I came in the door one of my coworkers said "wow, you don't look like a hippy today".

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I couldn't find a suitable blazer so I panicked (cold today) and got a cord hip length jacket with faux fur lining and collar. I wanted brown but I had to settle for the black that was in my size.

I'll keep searching for nice blazers though.

Just checking: those puffed-sleeve blazers from last year are over, right?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 2 October 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I need a new brown velvet blazer.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Where do you shop in Hollywood?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 2 October 2003 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't done any clothes shopping in a while, so I'm not even sure where I'm going to start looking.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I just figured out my jacket is from a skate brand:(
