Well?

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

do they still do that? I didn't think anything came in styrofoam anymore.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, classic. Even with the margin of error introduced by having the two halves of the burger on different sides of the container, I was still able to assemble my McDLT with more accuracy than yr typical McD's employee. I wish they'd introduce this tech across the entire produce line.

retort pouch (retort pouch), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

produce = product

retort pouch (retort pouch), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

do they still do that?

Oh no, a sadly bygone, futureless innovation, like, say ... the comic stylings of Yakov Smirnoff ...

(So maybe you can still get one in Branson ...)

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

It's probably a good thing that the McDLT wasn't successful though. Large sales would have meant that they'd have to make more and more of the already massive styrofoam packages, leading to even more global warming, leading to bigger and bigger McDLT packages to keep the lettuce and tomato cool, leading to even MORE global warming, and etc.

retort pouch (retort pouch), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't they keep the lettuce and tomato "cool" to begin with? Do they stow them underneath the fryolators or something?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but you're forgetting that eventually the Styrodomes (TM) would've grown large enough to house cities, cities where it'd ALWAYS be cool enough to keep lettuce crisp ...

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

DUD! The cheese wuz on the "cool" side! WTF?!?

nonthings (nonthings), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

touche.

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

keep the change. (shonge)

nonthings (nonthings), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course, things wouldn't be so peachy for the mutants, left to fry on the toxic surface of the ruined planet. There'd be occasional revolts, abortive assaults on the squeaky white faces of the towering, squared-off domes, etc ... naturally they'd amount to nothing, these Calibans eventually becoming completely dependent on the lettuce-and-tomato trade, their masters likewise developing an exploitable taste for scorched flesh, the only flesh still available ...

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic. Their oversized packaging and lack of cheese-rationale are exactly what make them definitive artifacts of 80's Reaganomics. They beat the shit out of Happy Meals, because the meal itself became a toy! If I could find an intact McDLT package, I'd put it in a climate-controlled lucite display box.

Major Grubert (Grandin), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

lack-of-cheese rationale = best post evah!!!

ps i'm hoping the lucite display box would be in the shape of ...

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 05:36 (twenty-two years ago)

How classic can something be when it like died out with the cavemen? Plus something like thirteen owls had to die for every one McDLT box, so yeah fuck a bunch of that noize! DUD.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

So nothing to do with Dave Lee Travis then?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

They would have been classic if you'd actually been allowed to watch the owls die.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

What does the D stand for?

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

WTF is this thread about?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

As stated above there were too many contradictions inherent in the McDLT for it to prosper. Eventually it had to transform itself into the Big n Tasty in order to survive.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

D = dacon, or dog-bacon. It's best to think too much about it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

best word omission evah

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

*confused and troubled*

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

What word omission?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I thought you had meant to say "it's best not to think too much about". D'oh!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

so google has NO infomation on either dacon or dog bacon, you meerkans are WEIRD

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I am frightened.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Nickalicious: My word-fu is INSCRUTABLE!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

canadians refer to it as 'bark bacon'

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I was wondering what the 'D' stood for!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was in fifth grade, we had to make a puppet of a historical figure out of a big mac styrofoam carton (the carton was the head part of course). Then we had to stand in front of the class and have the puppet tell a little story about its life. I almost did Chang & Eng so as to utilize the McDLT carton, but ended up not being that ambitious.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

So...the 'D'?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

DONALDS. It stands for DONALDS. Sheesh.

Chris P (Chris P), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

McDonalds Lettuce Tomato

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha "bark bacon"!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

you see DLT to us means something entirely different...

http://www.radiorewind.co.uk/dave_lee_travis_page.htm

NOT SAFE FOR ANYONE!!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.radiorewind.co.uk/images/DLT_grab.jpg

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmm.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread cracked me up from Dan's "dacon" post to Piuma's "DONALDS". It's too long to post to "laugh out loud" tho.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that "hickory smoked" Dacon or "maple slathered" Dacon?
Inquiring mind don't want to know!

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

you see DLT to us means something entirely different...

Carsmile, you have just proved tis better for some DJs to be heard, and not seen. Looks like Santa's little brother on Speed.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Hearing DLT is almost as bad as seeing him, if truth be told.

retort pouch (retort pouch), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Should McDonalds serve a "McHairy Cornflake"?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea what a McDLT is.

worst thing at mcdonalds in the US is that sickening sausage breakfast burrito thing they do.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"Think more legs ..."

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Ew..."Exterminator Special"

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Fresh fried spider legs.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I personally would want more than lettuce & tomato in a burger!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Did they ever have DLTs in England? They're still working on 'refrigeration' here

dave q, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I am pretty sure they did, cos I can remember the advert. 'Keeps the hot sidde hot, keeps the cool side cool, McDLT, McDLT'

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)
