Mountain Goats in LA? They'll fit right in, amid the muscly lads and wannabe stars....

(Sounds like fun, though. Mucho food, and designated drivers, stat!)

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

madigan, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I may come. I've never heard any Mountain Goats, but for $8 how could I go wrong?

nickn (nickn), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, who do we look out for tonight?!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still planning on it. I'm assuming I can buy a ticket at the door. Meet out front, inside, or elsewhere?

nickn (nickn), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

it's not a big place, I'm assuming we'll be able to find each other. You know what Ned looks like right? Also, I'm hoping to get a ticket at the door too.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, Chris and I aren't interested much in the openers so we're thinking we might not show until later, but I'm going to get into chat right now and see who is up with what about where. Uh, yes. And Spencer, you and Nick N and I all met back in March!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

B-b-b-but who will I talk to on AIM? ;)

Have fun, LA folx! I missed the show in SF last week.

adaml (adaml), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

oh wait, that's right! at El Coyote! I had somehow spaced that whole thing (wasn't I illin' that night?).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

We were at opposite ends of the table, Spencer, so no problem. And everybody knows what Ned looks like by now.

nickn (nickn), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I apparently look like a deranged seagull.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

are you sure you don't look like a:

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

This is always possible.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 October 2003 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to mention that song ("Fly High Lesbian Seagull"?).

I just had a mini-crisis here at work, so I may be later than 9, so nobody should wait outside for me. I know what everyone looks like, so I'll just go inside and find people.

nickn (nickn), Thursday, 2 October 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I won't be there til 10-ish.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I also am getting a bit late and won't see ya'll til after 10 or 10:30 - look out for me! I got a really nice tan!

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 2 October 2003 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Famous last words.

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 2 October 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

It was wonderful all around. Hurrah! Must sleep. *collapses*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 October 2003 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 2 October 2003 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha - J0hn and Spencer choose camera on left to look in, Nick is eclipsed, and Chris, Ned and I stare straight ahead!!

A totally awesome show - kudos J0hn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[Goes without saying, but we all held up the 7-11 after this ph0t0 was taken]

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 2 October 2003 09:49 (twenty-two years ago)

You would, Vic, you crazy madman, you gun runner.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 October 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha - J0hn and Spencer choose camera on left to look in

It's the J0hn Spencer Blues Explosion!

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 2 October 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

*ducks*

Annouschka Magnatech (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 2 October 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

dahling, all of you are GAWjuz.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 2 October 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

DB, you would approve of the fact that the final two songs involved Mark and Joel frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrom....WCKR SPGT.

With them, Peter, John D. and Franklin on stage, it was like 1992 KUCI -- LIVE!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

did joel duct-tape his whole body and squeeze elmer glue all over his hair?

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

No, but he sang "Terror Song" with a deep and burning passion (as well as the last song with Mark, tho I forget which one it was for some reason). And they both smooched Franklin full on the lips. (Franklin sez hi BTW, didn't get a chance to talk to Peter, we were all busy with the John group grope, emotionally speaking.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, sounds like it was a neat show. all that's missing is joey burns and refrigerator.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That photo= Swingers 2!

"This place is DEAD, anyway".

I want to come to L.A. again soon.

adaml (adaml), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! I was actually half looking for those guys but either I was blind or they weren't calling attention to themselves. One of the coolest bits was when John introduced the feller what married him and his wife.

Which reminds me! We all got to meet the legendary Lalitree herself, and a charming personage she is. John had to rush back into the venue to take care of things after that photo bit, but he was enthusiastically pointing all of us out to a person none of us recognized. But she then introduced herself and there was much happy chat -- as she said, "I'm not on there but every so often I read over his shoulder and recognize your names -- he's on there for hours!" Bless your ILX addiction, sir.

Oh, and she was wearing a Streets T-shirt, meaning she's clearly ILX in spirit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Make J0hn sing his Gollum song, guys!

Oh yes, he sez there's no Gollum song none, but he thanks you. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I'm not eclipsed in the other camera (not posted yet), after I took my position I realized I would be partially hidden so I tried for a compromise. But I think Spencer started walking out of frame by the time the other camera went off, so that may not be a good one either.

Also, great show John, I hadn't heard any Mountain Goats before this and I liked it a lot. Prolly shoulda bought a Tallahassee.

nickn (nickn), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, he's all trash noise guitar wankery on record, though. I mean, it's great if you're into that sort of thing -- imagine a Merzbow with kick-ass lyrics.

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

What was the club like inside? The outside of the place looked a bit weedy (based on Chris' pics, anyway)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris Piuma is a stinky liar.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, well admittedly his sound has changed a bit now that he's on 4AD.

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

He lies!

Nicolars (Nicole), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

What was the club like inside?

not as bad as you'd expect. That's not to say that it isn't a rock club in Silverlake...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I think he was in a non-musical production of the Hobbit. I think. Anyway it's not as if he wrote the libretto.

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Well then one is certainly called for.

Nicolars (Nicole), Thursday, 2 October 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX Hobbit Collaboration: Volume Infinity

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

spencer i was hopin to get a pic of yr fly ass double zipper sweater!

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

None to stop us but the evil.

Chaki, you rock star, where were you last night, the club was crying for you!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

haha! I'll wear it next time!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Spaceland was the place i last caught Les Goats, actually.. it was a strange bill, wasn't Neutral Milk Hotel, Trans Am, and Brainiac playing the same show? Or am i thinking of another show, maybe Chris Knox?

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 2 October 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I almost got there, but got um... sidetracked.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 2 October 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Delurking to say it was awesome meeting all of you, however briefly it was! Thanks for the warm welcome, it was a very cool ending to an infectiously enthusiastic show.

I did want to ask, though, if anyone knew why the lead singer of the Baptist Generals had a laser rifle scope pointed at his head for the majority of the set. He seemed like a decent enough guy, and it would've been very impolite to kill him after the day he had.

abree b (abreebb), Friday, 3 October 2003 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Peter Hughes had the scope at him as well. Must have been some staging thing, as opposed to death wish.

And rah on meeting Bree! Yay!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 October 2003 04:04 (twenty-two years ago)

she was wearing a Streets T-shirt, meaning she's clearly ILX in spirit

That depends if it was a UK or US Streets T-shirt. In the US the Streets are released by Vice, which makes her 'clearly Vice in spirit'.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 3 October 2003 05:59 (twenty-two years ago)

cha-ching!

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 3 October 2003 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)
