ADMIN: New Questions Guideline

This might be unpopular, but I think it would be a good idea if we could all stick to one question per person per day. That way Tom and myself won't get snowed under with hundreds of new questions every day, and existing threads should last longer.

Despite introducing a similar rule on ILM, I'd say to make this a guideline not a rule. The one-question rule on ILM made for some more thoughtful questions but it killed the energy of the place a bit, and I think the same might happen here.

For what it's worth I think the ratio of questions that *do* get interesting against those that don't is still pretty good. I think something ILE does though is hit a 'theme' (eg what's in your pocket/wallet/bedside table) and that can wipe out all other threads in the vicinity. So maybe the guideline should be - don't post a thread on the same day as the thread you're ripping off!

Did the ILM rules extend the life of existing threads? Can that be determined?

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Monday, 1 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Surely one of the reasons ILE came into existence was as a foil to the comparative rigidity of ILM. The glut of questions I sometimes find here has strained my attention-span,eyes and wallet(I pay for this stuff *by the minute* dontcha know), but I'm afraid of "curb your thread"-type rules making everything a little too "cautious"- one thing ILE has never been and,IMHO,is all the better for it.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Monday, 1 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

In answer to Mitch's first post - no idea. ILM's high-point (subjectively speaking) straddled the rule's introduction. Good long threads can still thrive there.

In answer to Mitch's second - I agree. Guidelines not rules. But just because you think of a thread doesn't mean you should post it. This is an interesting question actually - are there any threads people are 'sitting on'? I've been wanting to post something regarding my concern about/inability to enjoy 'camp' but I can't find the right way to do it...

Well I do like to post things like " I just had treacle : discuss" , but I guess I understand if its a hassle.

Tom, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

wicky wicky wild wild west.

jel, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I think that peeps like anthony should be allowed to ask a lot of questions.

jel, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I think it's good to have a few more topics than we can keep up with. That way me and Sarah don't have to pretend to know shit about art.

(This requires clearer thread titles, so stop with the cryptics)

Graham, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Well I didn't mean to stop you kids having fun, I just wanted to say please don't go BERSERK with the questions. I won't delete any, so you could just ignore me and be naughty.

DG, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Well, ya know if you want any admin help I don't mind. I'm sure I could manage to archive 10-15 threads a week. Assuming it's not that difficult. For I am the Unstoppable Force!
