It's inevitable really.

Oh yeah this is on the fridge door, not on top of the fridge which is where the rotting fruit goes.

On my fridge: kids' magnetic letters, which the last time I remember spelt "COCKFARMER" but I think are jumpbled now. I tried to use them to hold up postcards I'd got but they just fell off immediately.

And a magnetic Eminem dress-up doll.

Tom, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

A picture of a 30 pound cat as a reminder not to overfeed whiny cat in residence. Magnets for a now defunct but still beloved radio show. That's it.

Ours currently spell "CARDIACS" thanks to a deranged prog fan and "WIDE SMILIN", which was previously something rude but we self- censored because we had the builders in last week.

We'll surely be back to anal obscenity in a few days.

I'd just like to add: my flat is tidier than ever, positively sparkling, thanks to may flatmate's new girl: he spent a whole day cleaning so she could stay over. It's heaven.

Some random Manic Street Preachers magnets (no, really), odd photos from the newspaper, hilariously outdated rock shirt ads from 1993 or so, and a very confused looking teenager with wide eyes and the word 'Demosthenes' behind her.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

All manner of postcards, mostly relating to housemates' trips to Australia and France. Various other fridge magnets, inc Beatles (bah) and cuddly lil' koala bears. Photograph of me drinking beer from a vast glass. Moo-cow.

We have those random poetry words on our fridge. Currently they say "I must milk blind children".

An aloe plant, big red ceramic mixing bowl, the phone, magnetic hooks holding up a Ty-Phoo oven mitt and kitchen towel, a photo of my friend Jane's daughter at age 1-1/2, Beatles magnet, an ancient Mo- dettes flexi (Twist + Shout) held up by Lloyd Cole poetry magnets, a picture of another girlfriend in a rubber dress with the toy soldier guy and Little Bo Peep outside F.A.O. Schwarz, dry cleaning bill.

Lesley Higgins, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

A letter from a friend, a flyer for a community group meeting, my landlord's address. But what's most cool about my fridge is that I make my own magnets. There are these inexpensive thin magnetic sheets - much like paper, but with adhesive on the other side. You cut pictures out of magazines, stick them on the adhesive and cut them in any shape you want. I found an image of a toy city in an old magazine, and cut out buildings and clusters of buildings. I also bought an old wooden puzzle, painted and decoupaged it, and stuck the magnet material on the back. You don't need to buy magnets, you can make your own!

Hmm, tons of band stickers, pictures of our friends with their tongues sticking out, pictures of our friends playing with their bands all taken with a hello kitty iZone camera, Betty Page magnets, fake poetry magnet distributed by local radio station that has words like "stay hard," "deez nuts" and "arse", a big sailor jerry magnet, old band fliers, a note from our land lord and one big magnet that says "I heart my penis."

I want the eminem dress up magnet. . .

Sam-at-home, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Your entire life is in or on your refrigerator.

It is the center of the universe.

How to find this out . . .

First, hum a single note. Most people will hum B flat. The B flat tone is 60 cycles. 60 cycles of electricity powers most refrigerator motors. So if you cam hum a B flate you are in tune with your refrigerator. Everything inside your refrigerator will keep you alive by feeding your body. Everything on the outside of your refrigerator keeps your soul well fed. Pictures of your family and friends. A painting from your children. Good report cards. Even pictures of a 30 lb. cat or the Cookie Monster are all part of what make you feel good.

Therefore the refrigerator is in fact the center of the universe. Keep in tune with it.

whyarent there shelves on the outside anyways?

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

There are no shelves because due to the exterior warmth, a quick closure of the refrigerator door would result in an avalanche, sending detritus everywhere and possibly burying small pets and children.

Any more questions?

Way too much stuff. The girlfriend likes fridge-decorating-type-stuff. I had to buy stuff to put on just so it didn't look like a clone of the fridge in her whole apartment, giving me the whole "cooking in someone else's kitchen" vibe (it's a terrible kitchen as it is, I don't need that monkey). Magnets both quotable and cartoonish, a big huge streetsign-looking magnet that says MORSE (it's from her father's farm), takeout menus from places we never get takeout, notepad for making grocery lists that I never use because the pens are on the other side of the room and there's paper next to them.

And Gretchen -- that's a cat, not the girlfriend -- tends to jump on top of the fridge and from there to the space above the cabinets.

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 11:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 12:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Last year I took in a friend's cats while she went home for Christmas. The more cattiudinous of the two spent her entire time on the top of my kitchen cabinets, having gotten their via the refrigerator. In a neighboring apartment a cat used to sleep on top of the fridge, probably because it was warm.

On my fridge right now: A year-old wish list, on which I scrawl phone numbers when I'm talking on the kitchen phone. A magnet from a local pizza and chicken delivery place that gives dates for Redskins games from 1996 or so. A magnet-backed kitchen timer, holding up several coupons that are probably out of date.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 12:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Lots of touristy magnets from various places, some of which I've never been to before. Cutesy message magnets, usually found in some craft market. Boring, serious-type magnets advertising things such as medical groups and insurance companies. Blank magnets with marker writing on them, listing many, many phone numbers. Magnets from delivery places, which usually = pizza places here. One of those notepad holder-type things with magnets in back, used to hold certain kinds of envelopes. Basically, nothing particularly "fun" here -- it's (almost) all utilitarian and practical.

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 12:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

Tons of magnets--kitschy stupid magnets from Ricky's, those word magnets (poetry kits? I need to find the German one), Curious George magnets, dog magnets my roommate left behind. Postcards from family members, Gareth, Felicity, Jonathan. A birthday card from my mom and one from my sister. Some photographs I put up. An Onion article. An Altoids ad with Curious George on it. A cartoon that says something to the effect of, "I've never thought of it that way but I guess I AM calling in sick today". It's basically covered in crap.

I love how lots of people have the magnetic poetry kits :)

My whole freezer door (ie the top door of the fridge) is covered in them, I was given a "romance" set, so theyre red, and a bit saucy, and I keep an eye on them because every time people visit a new poem seems to mysteriously appear. One of my faves is one I did:

sex drunk sleep
bathed in skin and whispers

I also have a cool (real) phone bill that says i owe ONE BILLION DOLLARS and should move to yemen or something. My friend used to work for Telstra billing, it was a housewarming gift :)
