do you constantly eat as you sit at your desk? Or are you very good and save the eating for lunch time?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 8 December 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

constantly eat? where are you getting this food from?

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 8 December 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i only have one lunch and if i eat it too early then midday is ruined :(

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 8 December 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Not a muncher. Food is for lunchtime. Besides, it would get my computer keys all sticky.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i usually have a cup of hot chocolate in the morning and afternoon. and if there's cookies or whatever left from a meeting, i'll eat one.

although it's so cold in the office today that i might be drinking hot cocoa all day just to keep warm!

colette (a2lette), Monday, 8 December 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, it does that unfortunately. Or in my case, as I have just eaten a bag of pistachio nuts, get little flaky bits in between the keys.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

*turns keyboard upside down and shakes it*

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends how busy I am. If it's hectic or one of the rare occasions where my brane is fully engaged in what I'm doing, then I don't snack. Slow days & no motivation = multiple cups of coffee and a bag of hula-hoops/nik-naks.

*slurps 3rd cup of coffee*

robster (robster), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

It is a well known fact in this office that I don't eat offered munchies unless they are sweet. Hence they eat unsweetened biscuity things all day long. And never offer me any.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

We usually have some biscuits knocking around and depending whether I've eaten breakfast or not I'll eat a few before lunch. At the moment there is an ENORMOUS box of Spanish Christmas cake things on my desk, just sent in from ex-students in Barcelona. I've had three so far :/

Like Robster I tend to munch more when work is, or I am, slow.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I always have a satsuma, sometimes two. What else I have depends on how hungry I am. I might buy extra food today to keep me going as I'm going to London for the FT Club Nite rather than home to a well-stocked fridge.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i try not to eat at my desk. you're not really enjoying food if you're chomping on it whilst surfing the interweb..er...that is..whilst working. and none of that coffee while you're typing either - nothing's surer to give you a headache by lunchtime. except perhaps banging your head against the wall, but i try not to do that in the office too much either.

that said, if there's biccies in the office, i'll sit and stuff my face.

hello archel. and mark.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm. I am going to Belle & Sebastian tonight so may need to fuel up BUT boss letting me leave early woo.

*hugs hobart*

Archel (Archel), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

lunch only most of the days, unless i got my bum into gear to get to McDonald's before 10:30 for breakfast. mmm mcdonalds breakfast.

Great, i'm hungry now.

ken c, Monday, 8 December 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

*wonders how ken manages to keep his sylph-like figure*

Archel (Archel), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

belle and sebastian? you'll need LOTS of energy for all that moshing.

last night i saw the WONDERSTUFF. and my impressions were confirmed that

1. i don't really LIKE the wonderstuff all that much
2. a lot of wonderstuff fans (or people who go to wonderstuff gigs in the west midlands, at least) are wankers
3. voice of the beehive were GRATE... (they were the support)

ooh...a hug...just what i needed..

oh - should i be staying on topic here or are deviations allowed?

err...i'm about to eat a banana. and go for a cup of green tea.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

What about work thirsties? I constantly have to have a glass of water on my desk and sip, sip, sip all through the day.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Wonderstuff? Are you posting from 1992, hobart?

robster (robster), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

YES I need a constant supply of water to survive!

Also it satisfies my work-eye-hungries as the girl near the water cooler is gorgeous.

ken c, Monday, 8 December 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I now have a picture in my mind of a nymph serving Ken C water out of a scallop shell.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

no, robster. i'm pretty sure its 2003. although looking around me...mullets, pixie boots, off-the shoulder jumpers, SWEATBANDS for christsake and people admitting to liking duran duran...i sort of hope it isn't.

nostalgia is a strange thing, isn't it? it can only be the fact that things seem better in retrospect that allow people like mr. hunt and co to play an ARENA. ten years of listening to them (very) sporadically had convinced me that i actually liked them a lot more than i remembered liking them.
apparently, that isn't the case.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

You like BELLE AND SODOMISING SEBASTIAN, and you are ragging on people for Duran Duran? You can fuck right off with that condescending attitude.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! A return to form from Kate. Don't worry about her, Hobart, she's been very calm lately but mentioning B&S tends to get her all rattled.

(*mwah* to Kate)

on topic: Pret a Manger's baked doughnuts - only 160 calories each! And so light and fluffy you have to stop them floating away.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 8 December 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

You're lucky it was me that spotted that and not Dee, cause then there would have been real fireworks.

Grrr, I'm cranky, I wonder if it's too early to go to lunch.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, i do like belle and sebastian, although i hadn't actually said that yet. and i detest duran duran with a passion.

is that condescending, or just having my own tastes? surely its no more condescending than having a go at someone for liking belle and sebastian?

goodness, you're very angry, aren't you? i do apologise for daring to have different musical tastes from yours.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate, meet Ian, Ian, Kate. You're both lovely, so let's not start off on the wrong foot :)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

My condescention was in direct reply to yours. People have a right to like Duran Duran as much as you have a right to like simpering twee pabulum. You don't consider your loving your bands "admitting to liking" so don't make condescending remarks about people who like bands you don't having to "admit" to their tastes.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

oh fucking hell.

'simpering twee pabulum'???

i'm just not even going to START on that.

okay, i apologise for (inadvertently) offending you by making that comment about duran duran. i take issue with the way you chose to make your point, but, ultimately, that's your choice.

i don't consider loving my bands 'admitting to liking', no. i'm aware that lots of other people do. equally, apparently you don't consider loving your bands 'admitting to liking' either.

perhaps that makes us equally bad?

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

It's really hypocritical for you to "take issue" with the tone in my post, when I was returning your own tone. You said something offensive, I called you on it. Welcome to reality, I mean, ILX, no spitting please.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha - are you really having a "my band is better than your band" argument? You're both being pompous and argumentative! This is funny :)

(NB I am offering myself up as someone for you to turn on together - join forces to fight the greater enemy, if you will)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHA MARK C JUST CALLED SOMEONE POMPOUS AND ARGUMENTATIVE!!

I like Belle and Sebastian and I like Duran Duran and I have often inner struggles to try and take sides between these two rival bands.

ken c, Monday, 8 December 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Belle and Sebastian = band still going and still good.

Duran Duran = band still going but one that is limping feebly on, fuelled by eighties nostalgiacs, having not released any good records since, I don't know, Meet El Presidente in 1987.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

That's it, Hester, I don't like you any more. >:-(

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Good to know that Voice of the Beehive are still kicking around.

robster (robster), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:57 (twenty-two years ago)

it's odd, mch as I love Belle and Sebastian, apart from the bit about El Presidente, you can apply that to B&S too.

chris (chris), Monday, 8 December 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I was gonna talk about my array of work munchies I keep in my munchies drawer and chomp on all day, but I see we're having a heated discussion....as you were.....

smee (smee), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

No please smee... break out the KitKats, they're needed.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Crikey it's Ian! Hi BGI! Remember me? Cor sorry to see you got in a fite already :)

I am not going to see Belle & Sebastian - tickets 17.50?! Jaysus the Edge (also I forgot they were on and haven't heard the new album and and - I'm not getting away with it am I).

I do not really munch although today I brought in MINCE PIES for everyone! My office is surprisingly un-gannet-like and 6 still remain from pack of 12 cor blimey eh. ALL THE MORE FOR ME.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:11 (twenty-two years ago)

ORdinary World always makes me cry. Has there ever been a better song about not being a pop star anymore?

I drink a lot of water at work but rarely eat. My fruitbowl remains empty most days. Hmm.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I just checked my munchies drawer - I have one KitKat left Archel, it's all yours...I also have:

2 Packets of Quavers
3 Cans of Light 7up
An apple
I packet of M&S Percy Pig & Pals
Chicken CupaSoups
1 pkt Chocolate Buttons
1 pkt White Chocolate Buttons
A finger of Fudge
2 baby toffee crisps
2 baby aeros
A pear

I'm such a pig! Although it's meant to last for weeks and weeks and I do share, a lot :0)

smee (smee), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

if you were really a pig the drawer would be empty. i wish i have that much stuff in mine.

I hope santa buys me a vending machine for xmas.

ken c, Monday, 8 December 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm eating my apple, num....
I think my drawer has so much stuff coz I bring in too much everyday and I never eat it all, if I take it home the boyf will scoff it all so it stays in the munchies drawer!

smee (smee), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The Spanish cakes are disgusting. One of them tastes like beef.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha smee I have to hide munchies in my bag come to think of it or Matt will eat them. Though I can't complain as he did bake chocolate chip ginger nuts at the weekend.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I am so jealous, wish my boyf could bake....

smee (smee), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

There is apparently "stollen" in the kitchen. Should I be excited?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

you certainly should!

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmmmmm

German xmas food = better than any other country's. (Pannattone - WTF?)

Archel (Archel), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Stollen is lovely stuff - mmmm!

robster (robster), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd go as far as to say that Germany does Christmas better than any other country.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

kate. i'm sorry i offended you by suggesting you should apologise for liking your band (haven't i already said this once? maybe...i'll say it and actually mean it this time). it was unintentional.

actually, i may as well be honest about this, it was unintentional to begin with. after that, it was intentional. and i don't hate duran duran quite as much as i made out - i don't LIKE them, but 'detest with a passion' is a bit strong - by that point i was trying to be offensive.
(there, is that honest enough? probably too honest)

so, you're right - it was hypocritical to get pissed off because you were offensive in reply. i don't think either of us has an exclusive right to a moral high ground on this one - the point i was attempting to make was that you were doing some of the things you were getting angry with me for. i'm not sure that we're going to get anywhere by continuing to be angry with each other. certainly, it isn't making my world any more marvellous.

now, can we make up?? i'm capable of doing stroppy for as long as anyone, i'm sure, but it gets bloody boring after a while.

usually, i'd attempt to finish this on a light, sort of jokey remark to make things seem a bit nicer, but i can't think of one. insert one here. or don't. the choice is yours.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

christ, that looks even more pompous than the last one..

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

things taste better when they're stollen

ken c, Monday, 8 December 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

'(NB I am offering myself up as someone for you to turn on together - join forces to fight the greater enemy, if you will)'

(goddamit, how do you quote in itallics?)

mark, how could i possible refuse an invitation like that?

who is the greater enemy, then? i'm going to be quite careful about suggesting any bands just at the moment..

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate apparently "doesn't like me anymore" coz I deigned to suggest that Duran Duran haven't made any good records since 1987 and were now riding high on the crest of an eighties nostalgic wave. That said, they made plenty of good records *prior* to 1987 and there's no reason why bands shouldn't cash in on their previous success and ppl's misty-eyed reminiscence of their youth. All these songs are classic: Planet Earth, Girls on Film, The Reflex, Wild Boys, Union of the Snake. All of the following, while perhaps not classic are still good songs: Skin Trade, Notorious, Rio, Meet El Presidente. I don't rate Ordinary World as it happens.

Chris: I like to think that, had you heard B&S's rendition of Stay Loose (which is possibly one of the songs you think don't cut it) at the Astoria on Friday it might've changed yr mind.

but anyways, this thread is really abt FOOD, goddamit....

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, apology accepted, it's cool.

I did overreact, yes, I'm feeling very touchy today so I'm sorry about that.

But part of the reason I blew up at you so badly is I've experienced so much of that kind of attitude about that specific band in question in the past - to the point where I actually actively denied that I'd ever loved them for over ten years, because I was so cowed by peer pressure of "The Cool Kids". I'm ashamed of myself for ever being cowed into being ashamed of a band that meant so much to me. So perhaps I become more strident in defense to make up for lost time?

Turning it around, and acting like a cunt myself was an attempt to (over)prove a point.

I could really freaking do with some munchies or some comfort food at this point, though... sigh.

X-post, Oh, and Mark, I happen to really like the Electric Barbarella album. So there.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

and hey there starry. of COURSE i remember you! how's life? (hmm, that's probably a whole other discussion..)

a mince pie or some stollen would be nice, right about now.. i'm eating egg sarnies (more hypocritcal actions, then, after SPEAKING OUT against doing so earlier. god i'm really very BAD indeed...) but now i'm thinking of christmas food, instead.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Planet Earth, Girls on Film, The Reflex, Wild Boys, Union of the Snake. All of the following, while perhaps not classic are still good songs: Skin Trade, Notorious, Rio, Meet El Presidente. I don't rate Ordinary World as it happens.

SAVE A PRAYER is great too

ken c, Monday, 8 December 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Yas yas, stollen is good! They were giving away testers of happy stollen in the happy shop yesterday. V V TASTY.

Is it greedy to have two of the mince pies you brought in for SHARING?!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

If you *only* brought two, then yes. If not then EAT THEM.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

cheers kate.

ftr...i have never been one of the Cool Kids. nor even one of the cooler Uncool Kids and will admit to liking all sorts of (oops...there i go again) will be PROUD of liking all sorts of exceedingly unfashionable bands, including quite a few 80s pop acts... (just not the same ones as you, by the looks of it.. (joke))

i know what you mean about being pressured to like certain types of music. i've been in that situation, from various directions, for most of my life.

also, i thought duran duran were sort of hip nowadays? i'm usually i a minority when i say i don't like them (which is why it was probably a daft thing to say, but never mind...)

err...mark said this thread was about food... errr...

i'd love some pastels, but would be careful about eating too many sugarcubes.

sorry..

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

We get free cashew nuts at work so I eat those mainly.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:45 (twenty-two years ago)

robster: voice of the beehive apparently haven't done anything in the last ten years. this tour was their first lot of performances since the early 90s. they were bloody good, considering. MUCH better than the act everyone else had paid to see (in my opinion).

also, back to the topic, voice of the beehive did an album called honey lingers. and honey is sort of food, although i think they were just being rude, and the title refers to something else entirely.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but was it just like honey? Mmm, honey.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm, lingers.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm, eating girls out.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Trust N. to turn this into a thread about oral sex.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

kate: the album was very sweet (some would say over-sweet, but not me..), and it kind of...stuck.
surprisingly, though, it tasted rubbish with toast.

i won't comment on the other meaning. i have very little experience of such things..

hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmm, Bobby Gillespie's leather clad crotch...

Oh, sorry! D'oh! Here I'm doing what I'm accusing N. and Barry of.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)
