Along with many others, I thoroughly enjoyed the Freaky Trigger Club Nite Nuclear War set played by Tom on Monday. I was wondering if ppl had any ideas for future themed sets they would like played, or would like to play themselves if/when they DJd?

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 12 December 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I would like to hear a California Set at some stage. This could include:

California Snow Story - St. Etienne
California Dreaming - Mamas & the Papas or River City People
California Floating In Space - Call and Response
I Remember California - REM

and many others, I'm sure.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 12 December 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

This entire album played start to finish.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh and Tupac & Dr Dre "California Love", thanks S4ra4h (sitting next to me) for recognising it from my half-baked rendition!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

taking the 'theme' context into the physical realm, i would like to do a strictly ALL VINYL set - how about it pop-pickers?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

fruit would be a great theme tho (Raspberry Beret, Lemon Lime, I Am Curious Orange, CHerry Pie etc.)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

(i have access to a lot of 80s pop 7"s btw)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

yes we have no bananas

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I did a whole vinyl set at the first one.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

For FT's birthday celebrations next year, and also cos I've always wanted to do a night where I do one of those huge extended journey-through-music sets, I want to do Club Popular - every record a No.1.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Naked in the Rain - Blue Pearl

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 12 December 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Songs with lyrics/titles about shaking. Band names ie Shakin' Stevens would be kosher too.

Barima (Barima), Friday, 12 December 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, I could come up with hundreds on rain and probably fruit too. Since the record I would be most keen to play is the Rezillos' 'Someone's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight', due to it being about Wednesday night on the dancefloor, I might play a days of the week set.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 December 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

RAIN BY CHAPTERHOUSE

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 12 December 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

are there enough 2000AD related songs to do a 2000AD set?

Mutants In Mega City One by the Fink Brothers
I Am the Law by Anthrax

there's a song about Halo Jones isn't there?

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 13 December 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I think some indie band did do something about Halo Jones, but I don't have it.You'd have to stretch it, I think. All I can sort of come up with is:
Rezillos - 2000AD
Prince Buster - Judge Dread

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 13 December 2003 16:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Would anyone be up for a Guilty Pleasures set (see list I posted on blog about six weeks ago)?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 15 December 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I want a psychedelic ice cream set.

Strawberry Alarm Clock
Chocolate Watch Band
Vanilla Fudge

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

re 2000AD i half-finished a techstep tune called Deadlock once, can't see that going down too well tho, ha

how about tho...

Jackson 5 'ABC' mixed with Wildski's 'Warrior'
something by Rogers & HAMMERSTEIN
something by Slade (as in SAM SLADE)
The Basement 'Slain(e) The Truth'
Mega City Four 'On Another Planet'
something by Madness when they were on the Zarjazz label
Kraken 'Dominion' (techstep again...)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

something by Slade (as in SAM SLADE)

then you'd have to have The Human League too (the robot killing Human League featured in the Sam Slade story Play It Again Sam).

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I would just be happy with psychedelic ice cream.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 15 December 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

2000AD - you could play an entire Mega City Four set!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I suggest borderline racism as a potential theme.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Magic Mushroom ice cream? Ugh! Can you imagine how bad that would taste? (The last time I had shrooms, it was made into shroom tea, with sugar, and it was still so nasty as to be almost inedible!)

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I would be up for a set incorporating some of those Marcello! Indeed I've played a few myself, I know I've 'spun' "Total Eclipse" at least three times in the last month or two.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd be up for doing it after the New Year! Am planning to roadtest the idea over the hols at various gatherings in Glasgow and Birmingham, at least the ones in my list you can dance/smooch to, plus the innumerable others which have sprung to mind since compiling the list. Might be a good excuse to finally persuade me to come to a Club FT night!

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 15 December 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

How is a Guilty Pleasures set really any different from your normal Freaky Trigger set? I mean, come on! Sisters of Mercy! Flock of Seagulls!

::ducks::

(Yes, I danced to both, shut up!)

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin forgot Let It Rain by East 17.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I am guilty about none of it. Actually I am very guilty about accidentally playing the Waterboys.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

What, even STING?!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Sting served as an awful warning of the dangers of man's folly, a lesson I think we will all have need of, if not tonight then certainly on Friday.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

B-b-but Mr Reagan siad he will protect you.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't subscribe to that point of view Pete.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 15 December 2003 11:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Blimey it's like Cannon and Ball.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 15 December 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Rock on Tico.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 15 December 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Now where did I put my copy of Bobby Ball's cover of "Oliver's Army"?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 15 December 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

It's there, next to the Chas and Dave version of Masters of War.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 15 December 2003 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

DO NOT DISS C&D

stevem (blueski), Monday, 15 December 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

It was the Falkland's special, cameo by Ossie Ardiles.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 15 December 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

With specially written new lyrics, viz.: "Tottenham Tottenham/No one can stoppenham/We're gonna do it like we did last year" etc.
