see son, any one can be prime minister as long as they're very rich, descended from politicians and patient. And possibly evil.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(this apparantly also applies to the presidency)

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

His accent seems odd to me, and I don't think most Canadians sound odd.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

He is secretly American.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(he isn't but) he could be. we're not as xenophobic as SOME countries and allow foreign born citizens to hold the highest elected office in the land.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, because we really want Schwarznegger to be president.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

or Kissinger! or Albright (maybe there's an actual loss)!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

(p.s. I don't really believe the USA is necessarily any more xenophobic than any other super power nation)

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

(he isn't but) he could be. we're not as xenophobic as SOME countries and allow foreign born citizens to hold the highest elected office in the land.

Haha, Governor of California IS the highest position in the land apparently.

(california... zzzzz.. uber alles... yeah, sing along, guys, come on..zzzzzzzzzzz)

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Those "red-coated soldiers" CNN speaks of were clearly just run-of-the-mill mounties.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm actually kinda saddened by this. Now I feel less special whenever I make the few hour trek north of the border. I can't pretend to be a fucking traitor anymore. :(

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

quiet down, may. we don't want anyone to know we've been using mountie-mills. we'll have PETA up our ass so fast!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

pita up my ass... mmm, sounds like some greek food i had recently near Safeco field.

RED COAT!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I still think the U.S. Northwest and S.W. BC must form our own Cascadian nation. Krist Noveselic vs. Nardwuar The Human Serviette for candidacy for prime minister.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

If you dare try a Cascanadian seccession!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

You'd be invited along, don't worry.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 12 December 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

If Nardwuar was the PM I would move to Canada this instant.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I would move to, uh, Cincinatti.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

He once got to ask the PM a question during a press conference. It was, like, the best thing ever.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"I put pepper on my plate."

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

So, this Martin guy. He already smells and looks like he's gonna be the Tony Blair of Canada. Is this an inaccurate assessment?

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I think he's going to be the John Turner of the 21st Century.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't he a painter?

(Chris Piuma), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

he was a knocker-over of outhouses! Ha!

MARTIN: Why are my teeth showing like that?

ADVISOR: Because you're smiling!

may pang (maypang), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Leader of bloc québécois Gilles Duceppe said Paul Martin and the west of Canada were for the war, Chrétien would have gone with them if it wasn't for the bloc that constantly brought the issue everyday, forcing him to take a stand. But of course the opposition is expected to claim stuff like that isn'it?

Martin was a former finance minister but also a businessman, who registered part of his Canada Steamship empire in foreign jurisdictions, such as Barbados, to avoid Canadian taxes and regulations. Stuff like this kind of discredit him if he ever bitches that there isn't enough money for health...

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

He's a big rich asshole, who's only PM being he bullied everybody else into shying away, and further bullied JC (who I kinda like and admire, despite the fact that he's a dipshit--but I can't respect ANY politician) into leaving early. He has no real vision, no fucking plan, no charisma. He's just in office because he really, really wanted to be.
Go to a fantasy baseball camp you loser!

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

may pang (maypang), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

May Pang is, I think, my favorite new poster here.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I think she still gets an xmas card from him every year too. I saw one of them. His one daughter's kinda hot in that politician's daughter kind of way.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, so much for "escaping" to Canada for political reasons.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 December 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

who registered part of his Canada Steamship empire in foreign jurisdictions, such as Barbados
flying the nigerian flag (thus paying a fraction of money to nigeria than he would've had to to canada) was the most questionable of his questionables. that i'm aware of. crétien was right to make things difficult for him.

dyson (dyson), Friday, 12 December 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Leader of bloc québécois Gilles Duceppe said Paul Martin and the west of Canada were for the war,

No one actually listens to Gilles, he is a seperatist.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 12 December 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i think the ndp did alot more pushing against the war than the bloc.
well, not like i notice anything gilles says to begin with.

dyson (dyson), Friday, 12 December 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

He said what I reported in a tv interview. A good part of the province listens and support him because they think the bloc is useful to represent their interest and their values to the rest of canada. The creation of a canadian "united left" might be a better alternative for them and/or to the other people voting at the federal level but I don't have any info on such a thing.

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Friday, 12 December 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Prior to Chretien leaving the Liberals were left of center though. We have a long history of 2 reltively central parties, liberals slightly left and the PCs slightly right. Ther wasn't a need to unite anything. Maybe our current mess goes back to the wild swing to BM the PM back when the PCs won 211 seats.
