Help me pass my drug test tomorrow

It's been a week and one day since I partook of the evil weed (very modestly I might add). I just signed a contract for a new job today that I really, really want, but I have to take a test tomorrow. Should I be worrying right now?

growing up, Monday, 15 December 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

cheat

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

urine trouble! (sorry!!!)

vahid (vahid), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

how regularly did you smoke before a week and a day ago?

oops (Oops), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm really really sorry i said that.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

drink as much tea as you can stand for the next 24 hours, and a ton of cranberry juice, and some of that stuff that you have to drink an hour before, I forget what it's called...

webcrack (music=crack), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

paranoid but still getting the job is better than taking chances

webcrack (music=crack), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:07 (twenty-two years ago)

oops, about once a week or so, but very modestly.

growing up, Monday, 15 December 2003 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"OK, here, let me position you this way, and then I.... oh, you mean the RESULTS of the test?"

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

webcrack, why tea? Is plain water not as good?

growing up, Monday, 15 December 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

You could disclose that you did smoke 8 days ago, give them the quantity, and ask to sign an agreement where you state that you understand it's illegal and you won't do it again.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll sell you some of my weed-free urine for... what's the going rate these days?

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Take a bunch of something scary like say, PCP. Then when they get back the PCP positive test, they'll either think it a false positive, or better yet, they'll be too scared to not give you the job!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, that sounds far too sensible to work.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

do you have a head shop nearby? If so, go there and tell the weird old hippy guy there about your problem. There are things you can take right before that are effective for about 4 or 5 hours.
If not, just drink a ton of water (i don't think tea is any better, but i guess it won't hurt to try that---make sure it's herbal tea). Enough to where you're sick of it and never want to drink any ever again. Don't eat anything fatty, ie just fruits and veggies.
Good luck!

oops (Oops), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

You're right, Nick. The original poster should go with Spencer's PCP idea.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

it's my belief that most places won't care unless you come back with high rates of cocaine or heroin or something in your system. I don't really have any reason to believe this though, it's just something I suspect.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll second the tea, caffeinated tea (especially iced tea) is a powerful diuretic.

x-post: anthony it prob. depends if you're in the us or europe. in the us it can definitely get you fired or passed over (especially if it's civil service)

vahid (vahid), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I should've mentioned I was x-ing with Spencer. Legally where would you stand with your idea though, Dan? Is anyone here an employer/HR person, and could they enlighten us as to policy on that kind of thing? I'm not sure why I'm even interested as I haven't touched anything in 3 and a half years.

X with Anthony. Who sounds sensible too.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

If not, just drink a ton of water (i don't think tea is any better, but i guess it won't hurt to try that---make sure it's herbal tea). Enough to where you're sick of it and never want to drink any ever again.

Depends on when you do it, though. 4 or 5 hours before won't be long enough, I don't think.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

(xpost, obv)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Back when I used to partake on more than an extremely rare basis, I was in this situation a few times, and always drank gallons of tea, herbal as oops says, and it always worked (or so I assume as I always got the job). My friend was in this situation recently as well, did the same and she also drank the hour-before product, and she got the job. I don't know why it works, it just always has.

webcrack (music=crack), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends on when you do it, though. 4 or 5 hours before won't be long enough, I don't think.

I started drinking the tea about a day or two beforehand.

webcrack (music=crack), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You test positive for ANYTHING in the US and you're fucked. Trust me on this one. They have to do seperate tests for each drug, so why would they bother (ie pay for it) to test for weed if they didn't care if you did it?

xpost, yeah 4-5 hours probably won't be long enough, but it's better than doing nothing. Plus, you may give a diluted sample which would buy you some more time

oops (Oops), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Alternatively "Yay! Another stoner!"

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Obviously that was an X.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anybody else think it's a bit fucked up that a company should perform drug tests on their employees? If they do a good job, then what does it matter what they do with their private time?

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was applying for a top-secret military clearance, I was asked if I'd smoked pot. I was advised to be truthful, so I said yes. I had an extra form that I needed to fill out which basically said, "I understand that smoking pot is illegal and that doing illegal things could jeopardize my employment," and I was good to go.

If it's good enough for the government etc etc.

(Please do not be cute and link my name to this. Anyone who does will get the post deleted because, well, I'm like that.)

Very Obvious, Monday, 15 December 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

They only asked about pot?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I wonder if that would work with Heroin too.

may pang (maypang), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

"I can fly this secret plane."
"Are those trackmarks fresh?"
"Coupla days."
"Yer in!"

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It's more than a bit fucked up it's EVIL and borderline unconstitutional. It's complete bullshit because you can be a complete drunkard and still pass the test. If I were an employer I'd much rather have a worker who smokes weed on the weekend than a drunk.
Employers do it for insurance reasons, ie they get lower rates if they show that all their employees are drug-free.

oops (Oops), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah the idea of drug tests seems pretty Orwellian to me. They dont do it here much (at all? Ive never had one). Closest Ive come is a similar situ to the above poster, where I too had to get top secret govt clearance for a civil service job (one I never ended up doing so I guess its ok to mensh) and I hadnt done drugs then anyway so I said no to it. Apparently others I knew lied, but their parents were ambassadors and shit so its not like they wouldnt have got in anyway.

Tr4yc3 (trayce), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

er xpost, i didnt mean oops obv ;P

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

You test positive for ANYTHING in the US and you're fucked. Trust me on this one.

True. Last job I had (for um, 10 minutes), you HAD to submit to a drug test. As I don't partake of anything, I didn't care. However, they were even testing for codeine in your system---much less the usual stuff.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

God damn. I don't want a job where I'm forced to submit to something like that. Call me an idealist, whatever.

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in the US. But I'm guessing that the hardline testers are probably all civil service and not private companies. Generally speaking the only private company that I have personal exerience with as far as testing went was a bank/credit card company; I knew plenty of people who should have failed thetest on the grounds of their massive pot and amphetamine intake and they passed it. So that's the only basis for my probably totally erroneous belief that they only care about "hard drugs". I guess I wouldn't fuck around with a government test though.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

perhaps if you are lucky, you live in berkeley. in berkeley i believe it's illegal to pass someone over for a job for failing a pot test, or for any criminal charge less than possession with intent to distribute (which is like an ounce or something).

vahid (vahid), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

If you want to buy time for a false positive then poppy seed bagels are your pals due to weeny detectable opiate levels. Friend of little sis had a false positive due to this.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was drafted into the Australian military a couple of years ago to perform some mathematics/engineering-related stuff they gave me a test for what they described as 'hard' drugs. I was smoking lots of weed at the time and I passed.

secret, Monday, 15 December 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

as if I didn't already think Australia was Eden!

oops (Oops), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Or work in the software industry.. Never had to take a drug test for anybody I've worked with.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Good luck. That's not much time.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Monday, 15 December 2003 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone who thought I needed to know warned me ahead of time that I might be asked to have a urine test when applying for my current job. I bought a special detox tea, but the amount of tea the instructions said to drink just seemed ridiculous, so I took my chances. As it turns out, I was not given a test.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 00:46 (twenty-two years ago)

some radio stations drug test, which I think we can all agree is the height of stupidity.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

an internet company i worked for once tested. being a teacher requires no such test.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Man if I got tested for codiene I'd never get a job :(

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I PASSED AND I GOT THE JOB !!!

Thanks for all replies.

One other bit of info that might be useful for someone else in the future: Don't give your sample early in the morning, as the residue tends to build up when you sleep. Later in the day is much better.

growing up, Saturday, 20 December 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

1. Drink half a gallon of cranberry juice in half an hour.

2. Pee.

3. Go take your test within the next hour or so.

4. Suffer in gastrointestinal agony, cursing cranberries and everyone who juices them, until you get your negative results and everyone is happy.

I've smoked the night before a test and come out clear like this.

adam (adam), Saturday, 20 December 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

ok it's been a week and onetwo days since i smoked last (and that was the first time since july, i think). i have a drug test tomorrow, should i be ok?

i've been drinking lots of fluids and urinating a lot.

latebloomer, Monday, 21 January 2008 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

i think it hangs out in fat cells? You should be fine, though.

kenan, Monday, 21 January 2008 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

cool. i'm not too worried, just worried enough. i really really need this job.

latebloomer, Monday, 21 January 2008 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

not sure how much stock I'd put in this, but supposedly people who don't smoke regularly can pass a test the day after smoking without having to do anything special. so yeah, even just drinking a lot of fluids, you should be fine.

bernard snowy, Monday, 21 January 2008 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

Weed stays around the longest of anything. Some guides say 3 days after smoking once, if you are not a regular smoker. I had a drug test 2 weeks ago, so I was reading all the info I could find. Since I don't smoke, it wasn't really a big deal for me. However, if I were you, I'd take massive amounts of B complex vitamins 3-4 hours before the test and drink tons of water. B will turn yr pee bright yellow so that it may pass the sight test, at least.

libcrypt, Monday, 21 January 2008 23:12 (eighteen years ago)

it's probably not enough to show up on a test but if you wanna be safe they sell some gatorade looking stuff to drink at GNC or head shops that is supposed to help you pass.

bell_labs, Monday, 21 January 2008 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

Where I went (Qu3st), if yr pee didn't pass color or temp tests, you had to sit there and wait until you had to pee again, etc., until yr pee passed. Else, you couldn't take the test for X number of days.

libcrypt, Monday, 21 January 2008 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

One guy in my hire group refused the job on principle because he didn't believe in working for a company that does drug tests. He's also a deadhead.

libcrypt, Monday, 21 January 2008 23:19 (eighteen years ago)

passed the test! wooo! i'm employed!

latebloomer, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

:D now you can smoke all the PCP you want!

bell_labs, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

Congrats lb, I always wanted to work at a zoo. Well, it sounds fun at least.

Ohoho I wondered.

nabisco, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

What the fuck is that?

Nabisco, I always assumed that in the US you get a drug test at every job interview. Well, maybe I'm too scared. I know I'd be obsessing over this (if I was jobless) and hence would probably be living on water and bread fearing I'd fail the test. But hey whatever, right?

I'm sorry if I can't be OTM like you.

stevienixed, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

who here can remember every address they've lived at for the last seven years? and every overseas trip they took? month-accurate dating is crucial

I'm still waiting for that NYC parking ticket they've been hassling me about to show up on my credit report and get my career curbed

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

We don't have drug tests where I live. LOL.

stevienixed, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

(well I do, of course, but that's sketchy as all hell)

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

Tom, explain?

I've never had to take a drug test for a job although I've interviewed for a few.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, you didn't pay for that ticket?

I don't think I'll ever understand the US even after watching way too many Beverly Hills 90210 reruns. *sadface*

Guy I know his colleague drank pure alcohol on the job. Worked in a chemical plant or something. After a while they decided it was in their best interest to fire the dude cause he was pouring the shit in his coffee.

stevienixed, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:01 (eighteen years ago)

xpost - I just wanted to make a little shooting star. It's from these TV public-service things they do.

In the U.S. you do not get a drug test at every job interview. That would make no sense. Nor do you get a drug test for every job you're actually offered. Not even close. I have never taken a drug test for any reason, even including a job that required a full-on background check.

Which, x-post, yes, included that kind of "everywhere you have lived" questioning, which kinda reduced me to sputtering: "Umm, there was this moldy basement apartment on the corner of ... am I allowed to use google for this?"

nabisco, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

"Have you ever been arrested?"
"By actual police?"
"Yes."
"Umm, no?"
[skeptical face]

nabisco, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

I have never done a job interview in my life. Never ever. And hope that remains so. I'd need diapers if I had to. It all seems so random what they offer as excuse when they don't hire you. "You didn't have clean nails." WTF is up with that? Or what about "You shouldn't beg for a job." Uh, dude, I wouldn't be sitting here if I didn't need a job.

stevienixed, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

and what, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

Nath, you should go do a job interview, just do dispel these weird nightmarish notions you have about the process!

I mean, I don't know if you have some psycho Belgian-style interview process, but people generally don't offer any kind of weird fingernail-related excuse for why they didn't hire you. They will just tell you they hired another applicant. Unless it's a moderately important position and they did kind of like you, in which case you'll hear: "We decided to promote from within" or "We decided to go with someone with more marketing experience" or similar.

nabisco, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

Things you will not hear, for reasons including various federal laws: "We would have hired you but you seemed personally offputting," "You walked in and we were like no way, that guy is CREEPY," "What exactly was the deal with those shoes?," "You made a Simpsons reference during the interview," etc.

nabisco, Tuesday, 22 January 2008 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

------------------------------------
THREAD NECROMANCY!

Ok my drug test isn't tomorrow - in fact it is currently hypothetical. I have been applying to several horrible retail jobs for summer money and they all piss-test. I am currently high right now. I a famine/feast weed smoker - when I have it I am usually high like all the time, and when I don't, well then obviously I'm not. This is usually like a monthly on/off cycle thing, and it's been several weeks since I was smoking regularly.

So say Radio Shack, beloved purveyor of cell phones and gps devices, offers me an interview tomorrow, and then the day after that they offer me the job, wherein I have 24-48 hours to take a piss test. Would it be likely that the 4-5 days I'd have to clean out before the test would be enough. Also I weigh 130 lbs. and have a high metabolism.

And I have extreme access to powerade, niacin pills and water.

Viceroy, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 04:38 (eighteen years ago)

This is crazy - I can't imagine having to take a drug test for a fucking retail job. Unless it was for manager, but floor person? What do they think min.wage people do with their lives?

robertwolf8080, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

that cranberry juice shit i posted above works great.

so the company i work for right now, though not for much longer, does this thing where they drug test a whole bunch of people, fire all the positives and hire them back a month later. wtf is that? is it a scam to reset all their benefits to "new employee" levels?
