s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 18 December 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

(who was a smirky american kid with frosted tips)

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 18 December 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

but visually (ie sets mattes and especially COLOUR SCHEME) this movie was really fucking beautiful!

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 18 December 2003 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

also it was kinda dark!

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 18 December 2003 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate Peter Pan.

Aja (aja), Thursday, 18 December 2003 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

does it star that dude from the internet?

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 18 December 2003 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

That would serisouly be the best and the worst movie ever.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 December 2003 05:55 (twenty-two years ago)

he would've been better!

It will never overcome the greatness of the Disney version. They say "squaw", which, in case you didn't know, is a Native American term for "cunt".

Shirley, Thursday, 18 December 2003 05:57 (twenty-two years ago)

did you know that this is the first live-action adaptation of peter pan in 80 years? not counting hook?

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 18 December 2003 05:58 (twenty-two years ago)

What about the stage version with Ms. Mary Martin? Fantastic.

melora, Thursday, 18 December 2003 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

well that's not techniccally an adaptation as it was originally a play

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 18 December 2003 06:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Fair enough.

Melora, Thursday, 18 December 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Looks pedo-rific.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 18 December 2003 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks, dude.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 18 December 2003 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

the real life story of J.M. Barrie has interesting parallels with Peter Pan you know. Barrie himself was the boy who never grew up - he had a glandular disorder which meant he was short of stature and looked boyish and to overcome that he grew a mosutache, which merely made him look like a kid wearing a false moustache.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 18 December 2003 09:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking about this this morning, I have great hopes for it based on clips I saw, particularly a sword fight with Peter cackling throughout. Does it have the book's strange multi-year epilogue?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 18 December 2003 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

also it was kinda dark!

the book is kind of dark, belonging to that great genre of children's books about how growing up is shite.

MarkH - have you read JM Barrie and the lost boys? lots of great stuff in there about JMB's incredibly miserable life.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 18 December 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

did you know that this is the first live-action adaptation of peter pan in 80 years? not counting hook?

why would you not count hook???

the 1920s version by herbert brenon is pretty great.

i'm looking forward to this for the same reason everyone is looking forward to this, namely, ludivine sagnier as tinkerbell...

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

oh also: s1utsky, email me

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw an excerpt where Capt Hook was being charming to Wendy...

It looked interesting in a kind of 'dark' way..

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

apparently if JM Barrie had taken a different route on his journey through Bedfordshire we might have had Peter Pan and Sandy, rather than Peter Pan and Wendy.

although these days Wendy is in Cambs.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

also it was kinda dark!

That's what I liked about the previews, it seemed much closer to the book than the Disney adaptation or the craptacular piece of cinema known as Hook.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

People interested in teh JM Barrie story will be interested no doubt in this film:

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

tyhat has a fantastic cast. Ian Hart as Conan Doyle = smart. And Kelly Macdonald too - always a plus

chris (chris), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Johnny Depp doesn't exactly fit the description of J. M. Barrie Mark H. gave upthread, does he?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i didnt think hook was craptacular, crapesque maybe

the disney version isnt really that great either imo, captain hook is pretty cool but the rest is sort of meh.

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:47 (twenty-two years ago)

that's true, depends which JD turns up though - good actor JD or Chew up the scenery with acting JD

chris (chris), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

also the 1920s version has anna may wong as tigerlily. also a girl playing peter pan

girls as peter pan: s and d

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 18 December 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Peter Pan should be played by a girl. It gives the whole Wendy Peter thing a real TaTu feel.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 18 December 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Why not have TaTu actually play Peter and Wendy? That would make the viewer ratings go up...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 18 December 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

its hard for russian films to find funding nowadays though

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 18 December 2003 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

JMB's incredibly miserable life

I think JMB was mis too coz ppl never remembered his books and plays for adults, but only Peter Pan, cf Arthur Sullivan being a grump coz ppl only remember the G&S operettas, not his "serious" compositions.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 18 December 2003 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

i remember sullavans serious stuff sometimes! it was good.

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 18 December 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

its hard for russian films to find funding nowadays though

Not Russian films with TaTu as a couple, I'd suppose. You'd only have to get rid of their tits for them to look credible. I guess that could be done with computer graphics, even though that's the reverse of what computer graphics are usually used for... (Re: Jennifer Lopez' ass.)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 18 December 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

why would you not count hook???

well 'cuz it's not a straight-up adaptation but more of a sequel or something, or a "riff" on the book

I really wanna see the silent version now!

another thing I liked about the movie was it retained some elements of theatricality--like how Jason Isaacs plays both Mr. Darling and Captain Hook

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 18 December 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 18 December 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

He would sort of have to, wouldn't he?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 18 December 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah ludivigne sagnier--she was actually pretty hammy

s1utsky (slutsky), Thursday, 18 December 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

that won't make N. not want to pork her.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 18 December 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG gets 10/10 for giving me my larf of the week!

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 18 December 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

: )

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 18 December 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

haha rjg's post is so rude and blunt i like it.

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 18 December 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

ludivine sagnier is on t he cover of this month's dazed and confused (some shitty fashion/lifestyle magazine) looking very femme fatale.
