She's been out of town for two weeks and comes back next week and I've been giddy until today when she intimated a worry that we may not have any time together come the fall semester and now I'm :/ on top of missing her

Just reflect upon how blessed you are to have someone in your life whose absence can get you this worked up. Hang onto that.

weird place to put it and definitely not the way it was meant by title buuuut couldn't find a home so....
anyway, a friend of a friend who we'll call Fredo was reported as missing since 12/23, last seen leaving his place of business. family had filed missing persons report, and friends/roommates publicly posted about it looking for info on his whereabouts.
my friend is naturally panicked, as she's good friends with Fredo, but the last day has been weird. for one, she noticed that Fredo's status showed he had been logged into Messenger yesterday, hours after his roommates posted on FB and instagram seeking his whereabouts, and she told them about his recent login and it was brushed off by all of them.
Likewise, the panicked posts all disappeared today from FB and Instagram within an hour of each other. there was no explanation for why on FB, but on Instagram, Fredo's roommate replaced his original post with one saying that he 'truly believed the friend was fine and dealing with some heavy problems' and that he'd return home soon, and asked everyone to stop messaging or calling the missing friend because it was probably overwhelming him. however, he also asked if anybody heard from him to tell him AND Fredo's family, suggesting nobody close to him had actually heard from him.
This post got many upset comments asking how he knew he was ok and saying it was too early to stop looking, but Fredo's roommate deleted these comments and turned off commenting without explanation.
around that time, my friend messaged me to tell me one of Fredo's other friends told her that Fredo had actually texted someone close to him (roommate/family) and indicated that his car was totaled, but he was ok, and that was the last they'd heard from him.
our gut feeling is someone knows more than they're letting on and they're trying to respect Fredo's privacy, but at the same token, my friend isn't assuaged at all by this because even if what she was told is true, a message from someone a few days ago saying they'd been in a wreck but were ok and no other word from them since is hardly reassuring.
I've seen lots of "missing people" reports on FB from friends, many that resulted in the person being found, some that resulted in the person being dead, but this is the first one I've ever seen where someone deleted the bulletin and said "nevermind he's probably fine".
is it wrong for my friend to ask politely this roommate whether they have additional info? it does feel like information is being withheld, possibly to protect Fredo (i.e. possibly a DUI situation or something), but my friend is really concerned based on the minimal info that's been shared that he might still be in harm's way.
(and yes, this is my friend, you fuckin Freud wannabes)

Not to detract from your post, Neanderthal, but when I saw this thread in SNA I knew I had to post that I miss my daughter. It's not too achingly painful atm, because she is still a very lively and much loved presence in my heart, but I miss being able to walk into her room and tell her that I loved her and how good it is to see her, then sit with her for some hours holding hands.
