Or any sort of festive decorations you have around your place. I don't have a Christmas tree this year, so I can't contribute, but holiday decor is cool. So post away!

Though you can't tell from this picture, it's quite a large tree (8ft high?) and we kind of ran out of lights (this is two sets).

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 19 December 2003 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe I'll post a pic of the Christmas tree in the hallway of my building tomorrow, it's a nice, typical Christmas tree. This lady down the hall was showing me a creche she just put up. It has tinsel and flashing lights. I told her it was very festive.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Friday, 19 December 2003 07:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Some years I'm into Xmas, some years not: The sheer lack of much holiday decor in my life right now has made the two places I've been in that were all dolled up for Xmas seem really, really nice and cool. When I get back to my parents' this weekend, though, I'm sure that will be very, very decorated... perhaps too much so.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 19 December 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a great tree, Nick! The lack of full lights coverage adds that certain je ne sais qua.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 19 December 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I love the look of real trees too. My family always uses fake trees, which require a lot of decorating of course so that they look nice and Christmassy instead of just fake. This year though they aren't bothering with decorating save a wreath, so I sent them a Christmas flowering cactus.

I actually have one Christmas decoration at my place! I'd forgotten about it--it's an ornament I made a couple of years ago. I photographed it outside of its natural habitat to spare ilx from viewing what a tremendously cluttered mess of a living space I have.

I have to work out how to buy things I can send in t'post this year as I cant spend xmas with my family. My dad is not impressed. I have to work tho...

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 28 November 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not me, it's mrs adam, a hardcore traditionalist!!! That non-gold present is mine. I squeezed it but I can't tell what it is.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 29 November 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

There are four sundays in advent, so yesterday.

I dig the mask on your mantle, Adam.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 29 November 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you, it is a Belizean traditional mask that we bought in Caye, but we just call it "Santa".

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently, it is the American tradition to buy your tree at the end of Thanksgiving. If this is true, then our timing is very appropriate!

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the first tree I have EVER had!

!!! Adam were you raised by MEERKATS?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

No, JEWS!!

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Close, though!

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 29 November 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Awesome. I so wanted to put up the tree this weekend, but then realized that the cats would destroy it the week we're away, so now I have to wait until mid-December. *sigh*

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 29 November 2004 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

your turn!

Kim (Kim), Monday, 29 November 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently, it is the American tradition to buy your tree at the end of Thanksgiving. If this is true, then our timing is very appropriate!

It is. And you decorate your house, indoors and out, the days after Thanksgiving. It's only, what, four weeks away? Not insanely early to be decorating.

oops (Oops), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks. big up yourself.

adam... (nordicskilla), Monday, 29 November 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

SGS, if you read this, we've been booked by my parents to put up the tree again - 19th December, I think it was.

Jesus Christ, Paraplegic (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The Christmas CD has just gone on at work. Currently: Dina Carroll, Perfect Year.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

some kids put up a plastic christmas tree with lights in the common room, and a reindeer with lights too. and i just got a camera! so two questions:

1. where can i put pictures online so that i can link to them?
2. why can't i ever get the image-posting html to work on this forum? you'd think it's very simple but i just can't make it work. (please don't direct me to the faq, that is the source of my frustration)

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

You just put an i in front of the http and make sure your picture isn't hyuge.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

AND YOU HAVE TO PRESS ENTER AFTER THE ADDRESS!!

Jesus Christ, Paraplegic (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you?

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I was helping a friend decorate last night and noticed she has put twinkle lights in the BATHROOM.

ken c (ken c), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I watered our tree today. Interesting.

We bought it from Delancey Street Xmas Trees, a bunch of recovering addicts who also run a moving company and a restaurant!

I love San Francisco!

adam... (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 30 November 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry that was pretty much a test (although it'd make for a good xmas tree).. the pressing of enter afterwards is not required.. all you do is to type i and then the url

for example
ihttp ://science.ksc.nasa.gov/history/apollo/images/abort-test.jpeg

(without the space between ihttp and ://)

it used to work with normal image tags (i.e. <img src="http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/history/apollo/images/abort-test.jpeg"> , but after somebody (ahem) started posting stupid big images everywhere it was somehow decided that we should handle images with this ihttp thingie

this is me (on the left) and holly putting up my tree on thanksgiving.

i'll try to find a picture of my tree back home, i love it and miss it.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

This was my tree in Xmas 2001

http://img.photobox.co.uk/73013548a9b61f6fcf97b6b3bb997b88ea031e617c1d52157f302720.jpg

i'm not sure when I'm going to get the chance to buy and decorate a tree, I think finding half a day on the weekend of the 11th/12th is the only real opportunity I have, unless I try to do it one evening.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.nelsons-christmas.com/Fiber_op/7892-2l.jpg

this is pretty close to the one at home. it's got fiber optic thingys that change color. i can sit and stare at it for ages.

(my family always has real trees, often cut down ourselves, and i love real trees, but just don't have room for one in any flat i've ever had, so i figure rather than going for a 'realistic fake,' i get the most OTT silly fake ones possible. and tinsel trees make me happy)

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

is holly going to put herself on the tree?

Revive! This is the first year I've had a real tree in my own place. Matt put it up as a surprise while I was at work last week :) It's only small and in this pic ruined by the radio being in the way, but:

sunny successor (katharine), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

Excellent crafting skills Archel!

I hadn't realised how big my tree was this year until I saw this thread again. It doesn't look too different though, never mind.

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

I meant in comparison to last year's tree, not other peoples, big is not necessarily beautiful...

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

You know, I've been so overworked the last two weeks I still have never had time to put one up. I'm a little depressed about it, there's nothing like a nicely decorated christmas tree.

Lars and Jagger (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

It looks a little menacing in this photo, but I love it anyway:

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

That's weird, it looks like you took your christmas tree to Sears to get a professional baby photo take of it.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

I agree. I didn't though.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

Aw, I wuv Vicky's huge tree, and Archel's shuttlecock angel. My tree's not going up until Monday - when I was wee my mum and dad didn't think it was fair to do anything Christmassy until after my birthday so no tree and all cards received were hidden in a drawer so I could have a Christmas-free day on my birthday with space to put my cards up for all to see. Then come the 19th December, Christmas was allowed again.

Despite the fact that I am a big growed-up, I still maintain this tradition. And, despite the fact that they live in a different sodding country therefore aren't even going to offend the ghost of my huffy childish sensibilities, so do my parents. Bless.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

I usually put my tree up on the 13th because it's Santa Lucia, but I couldn't yesterday because my living room is full of boxes of somebody else's stuff and he won't be moving them until Sunday or Monday so I'll just have to wait :(

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

ailsa, that's a great solution to the december birthday issue! I am totally going to steal it for my new december kiddo.

Not a great photo, but our tree is adorned with a Scarlet O'Hara doll replete with Carol Burnette "I saw it in the window and I just had to have it' hand made curtain rod.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 06:38 (twenty years ago)

i don't have a tree and i'm working on christmas (booo) but my parents always decorate this little pine they have and it reminds me of a charlie brown xmas tree:

this is their "real" tree - 10 feet! i'm jealous!

tres letraj (tehresa), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 06:58 (twenty years ago)

very nice! well decorated. decent light spacing. good light to ornament ratio. im not sure what that is at the bottom but i like it especially when i pretend its either snow or a meringue.
