Would this be a good Christmas present for someone, or is it needlessy complicated? It looks cool though.

Mah Jong is a game for old ladies. It is like gin rummy. I have two tile sets. I am also half-chink, so it makes sense for me to have these. It's fun tho.

My mother plays it with other yentas older than her who have totally soured her perceptions of the world, so dud, I guess. It's kinda funny because all my friends who grew up in Asia know it as a men's gambling game, so the idea to them of old nebbish women primarily playing it as a social outlet is just ridiculous.

I have a nice travel set where I am but I am not good enough to try to teach other people how to play. My regular mahjong group is all gay men and it ends up being an impromptu bender. It's a lot of work.

We are often scolded by the one serious player because of how long we take between turns. Someone's always wandering off, making a meal, petting a dog.

My wife and her friends started playing this a few months back, and now they meet weekly. Had to call in a much more experienced player at the start to teach them how to do it, because it seems pretty complicated.

My group was meeting monthly. Mostly because when we play it's for about 6-8 hours and people schedules are hard to align. And now that we are older it's harder/bad to drink that much alcohol in one evening.

I only know how to play this Japanese style and like a total hack because of Yakuza games, but I love it and would love to learn it properly to play irl.
