Is she as smart as she thinks she is? Checked the archive and it seems some think her a smug bastard. Also, welcome googlers.

her column runs is Parade magazine, so uh, yeah I think that answers the question.

Be still my beating heart.

I used to want to be Marilyn Vos Savant when I was little. I thought it was the coolest thing ever that she was confirmed by the Guinness World Records people as having the highest IQ (though one has to ask -- is that the "highest IQ ever" or the "highest IQ of any currently living individual out there"?). At any length, she obv qualifies to be a member of Mensa, which has been a passionate (prob. pipe) dream of mine for years, so, um, that's that.

Oh yeah, and Leee, a friendly slap your way.

Dee, have you ever tried to get into Mensa? I don't really think it's too hard.

There was a great Financial Times article about Mensa a week or so ago but it's now archived and now available only to subscribers. Here's the link if you want to do the trial subscription:

The gist of it is that the FT reporter and three of his colleagues did the Mensa IQ test to see if they were eligible for membership. They all qualified, and mysteriously enough, they all scored 155. Not being dumb, they figured out the odds of that happening were pretty slim and are thus speculating that Mensa has fallen on hard enough times that they're desperate for membership dues. Membership has been declining, there are about twice as many men as women, and people mainly join for the (declining) social cachet and for the DATING OPPORTUNITIES!

That said, I don't think it's any crime to be proud of being smart, as long as you realize that there are other human qualities which can be just as valuable.

everyone I know who ever tried to get into mensa did, so it is suspect, because I know some of these people to be dimwits.

Haha, Mensa's using the same scoring as Emode's IQ test. I scored a 135, and everyone I know who took it was within five points either way. Every blog that I noticed in a Google search was within five points.

It's pretty sad.
