do these people really have enough shoes that they can afford to throw them at people? i only have two pairs of shoes, and i value them much too much to throw them at foreign dignitaries.

some people have enough shoes that they lose them in the street, or sometimes tie the laces together and toss them up on phone lines at intersections.

Anyway, I think this is a fairly "major" story, I'm not really sure why it shouldn't be, considering how often we in the West are pelted (not literally) with simplistic images of the Middle East and its politics. But hey, why actually explore what happened and what the coverage means, especially if the news media can only identify the attackers as "Palestinians?"
