Did you like "Outland"? If so, harrass away. I think the old daily "Bloom County" strips were ten times better, personally.

(Keep in mind that papers will probably be wary of including this strip since it takes up half a page a la "Calvin and Hobbes")

do it. it's worth it.

I wonder how long he'll be able to go on with jokes about Opus readjusting to penguin life in Antartica. I'm assuming other regular characters and storylines will emerge, but so far it's been basically the same joke over and over. Certainly not as good as Bloom County, but still way funnier than most of the Sunday funnies.

I've seen a couple and haven't loved it--it's pretty and all, but I bet most good Sunday cartoonists could do at least as well with that much space.

Last Sunday was actually the first one I caught the new "Opus" Sunday comic strip. I really adored seeing Opus grace the comic pages again. The whole "re-adapting to Antarctic life" idea seems quite nice, but I suppose there could come a time when it would be a bit overused. Still, I'm going to need to see more of it to really judge either way, and because locally it kicked that loathsome "Cathy" off the Sunday comic strip section, it is truly and utterly CLASSIC.

meh. nicely drawn, not funny at all.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 24 December 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

not even that nicely drawn.

It's almost like there's an in-joke that I don't get with Bloom County/Outland/whatever the fuck he's doing now. I've never even smiled at one of his strips. Of course I'm an asshole who thought Cracked was funny when I was a kid.

Thanks for the link, Chriddof. I may actually write my first letter to the editor and tell em to run it! Hahaha, me, writing a letter to the editor, who'd have thought.

I think any comic strip takes a while to develop and really find its rhythm, and I'd like to watch this one take shape, so thanks everyone.

four years pass...

Re-retiring.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 October 2008 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

whatever.

the couple strips of Opus I read were pretty much re-treads of various Outland/Bloom County strips, updated for modern relevance or something. Breathed will always have a place in my heart, but he never should've come outta retirement.

my local paper never carried Opus, but i didn't miss it much.

Steve Dallas had gray hair in it. That was interesting.

I would like if the last comic featured Opus's butt implants falling off again.
