New Year, what are all you fine ILXers doing and how many will be celebrating only a few yards from me without knowing it?

I HATE NEW YEAR.

It's shit. Never had a good one, except maybe 1999 where I saw in 2000. That was alright, but the last few have sucked so bad it's been unmentionable. It's the only time of the year where you are expected to be drunk/ have fun/ be in the partying spirit/ enjoy being cold.

I hate it. So after saying I was going to stay in this year and watch the telly I changed my mind. Again, I feel like I really should make an effort even though I will be invariably miserable and cold and in the midst of bad weather being given slaps on the backs and "happy new year mate" gestures from drunken fuckwads that I would normally cross the street to avoid.

This year, my fine ILX lot, I will be in Dundee.

Will any of you people be there and, if so, let it be known I will be among you. Watching your every movement. And you will not know.

AHAHAHAHA

Koff.

Happy New Year Calum!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 28 December 2003 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

C-Man (C-Man), Sunday, 28 December 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it'll be fairly easy to spot the guy furiously hand-jiving on the bar.

Hmmm, Sunday, 28 December 2003 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Calum you are so rude! Have a sense of humor. God!

I'm sorry you're so miserable!!!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 28 December 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Hand jiving?

C-Man (C-Man), Sunday, 28 December 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Kosher!!

Aja (aja), Sunday, 28 December 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anyone know where best to go in Dundee. I'm told "The Velvet Rooms" as it "might play indie".

Where can I go that will allow the night to progress and past as soon as possible so I can go to bed and get it done with?

C-Man (C-Man), Sunday, 28 December 2003 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

fly east.

ken c (ken c), Sunday, 28 December 2003 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck it, walk east. The sea is deep and full of mysteries my friend.

Since the millennium (I spose) I'm starting to detect a very welcome groundswell against NYE. The absolute necessity of being at a NYE party at midnight for retaining social cred seems to be waning. I spent my best NYE for years (99-00 excepted) two years ago at home alone watching a 3-hour special of the history of Australian TV comedy.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Sunday, 28 December 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll probably be celebrating in the same place as last year: Greyfriars Kirkyard. There's nothing like celebrating new year in a cemetary with a bunch of goths.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 29 December 2003 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Will be in Boston at some party, a friend of a friend's. Anybody going to some party, a friend of a friend's, in Boston, let me know. I'll pour a glass of wine for you.

Berkeley / Sackett (calstars), Monday, 29 December 2003 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll. Be. At. Work. Disappearing quietly at about five to twelve, most likely.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 29 December 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I spent the Millennium NYE being ill and having to go to work at 7am the following day. I haven't really given a toss about NYE since then.

robster (robster), Monday, 29 December 2003 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

please excuse drunkage and also weirdarse french keyboards.

emsk, Monday, 29 December 2003 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to Rome hurrah hurrah

teeny (teeny), Monday, 29 December 2003 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm most likely going to Rome for NYE as well.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 29 December 2003 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to drag the divan foam slab things out onto the balcony to turn the balcony into a giant makeshift outdoor bed; layer it in cushions and blankets, harem-stylee, maybe pop some candles or tiki things all about. And then sit out there all night with the boi enjoying a drink or whatever else we may procure, listening to music and the sounds of our street.

Weather permitting, I spose. Sod parties and fireworks, I like spending NYE quietly.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 29 December 2003 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

doing sound at a show. getting paid for something on nye, for once.

most of my NYEs suck.

only two notable ones of the last 15 years are seeing Yo La Tengo in Detroit, and Ira jumping from a PA stack into the crowd to land on me, and the one at Y2K, where I was in cleveland, lighting off fireworks in the street with the drunk landlord of my then girlfriend's sister, before the cops showed up.

El Santo Claus (Kingfish), Monday, 29 December 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"I'm most likely going to Rome for NYE as well."

Roam around Melbourne that is.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Monday, 29 December 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)
