usually highlight my hair. this beautician insisted on dying it all one color first. before she would highlight, cuz my roots were about an inch grown out. well, big disaster. it is now orange. i have naturally dirty blonde hair. have been highlighting it for ever. last time a little blonde and a little brown lowlights. so now i have extremely orange roots and blonde all over. i am dying.
what should i do

Go back to the salon right away, tell them you are not happy with it and insist that someone with a clue sorts it out for you. Maybe they could dye it dark, then highlight from there, but whatever the solution is, an experienced colourist should be helping you out. And don't agree to pay for it to be fixed either - if it's as bad as you think, then they should be sorting it free of charge because it was their mistake. Threaten them with trading standards or whoever deals with beauticians if they make a fuss about fixing it for you. Good luck!

If it's not totally orange, you can also just try some semi-permanent color in a darker color. I had my hair highlighted this summer, then went swimming almost every day- and walked home with wet, chlorinated hair. End result: orangish highlights. Blech. But semi-permanent color in a dark blonde covers it really well. Of course if you paid for a salon to do it, and they screwed up, they should fix it for you. Any good place will fix it (with another stylist) for free.
