What are you doing?

I am coming over to see my brother and nephew and sister in law. And also because my friend is DJing at my brothers night again, at Thirst this time, in Soho, where I met some of you before. I think I heard the place has been changed a bit so it's not so much "new swish bar" but I may have imagined this. Either way it should be some fun.

But! I really really really want to go clubbing, proper clubbing, cos there's nothing ever on here anymore and I have to take the chance to go to a good big club again while I'm in London. I see Francois K is at Fabric on the Saturday, presumably other stuff will arise closer to the date, nothing's online yet as far as I can see, I'd love to go to something. Francois K does seem really tempting to me anyway.

So.....

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

And I'd like to see ILXors obviously!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

awesome!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I know! The advantages of taking a monotonous job in the bank for the month of january!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool! It would be good to fight with, I mean, MEET Ronan in person. Though I'm scared of clubbing. Are you going to have a common or garden FAP, in, like, a PUB, as well, please?

the river fleet, Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess so, I will definitely be in that Soho place, and it's not really a club, just a kind of homage to capitalism bar. No it's not that bad really.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Wah you get to meet Ronan and I still haven't.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

pre-Thirst FAP should def happen. i'll probably be up for Francois K too - what's on at Turnmills around then? Ronan you'd better have your Andy Weatherall moustache sorted by then.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 January 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

let's make this a great one.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 January 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

alot of places seem not to have announced their lineups. Francois K would fit right in with my current old school obsession.

It might take me about ten years to get a weatherall moustache.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

er I said "announced". Yeah when I go to London clubs have to announce their lineups, press everywhere, where will I go, who knows?????????

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

this sounds great!

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 18 January 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

How about dirty warehouses, how do you feel about dirty warehouses?

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

ed are you trying to turning this into a porn thread?

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I envisage something like the video for Relax and me thinking I'm not in Kansas anymore.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll speak to some couriers. We could make this a weekend of grime.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

grimy house?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

grimy squeaky clean house?

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

all back to gareth's!

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I envisage something like the video for Relax and me thinking I'm not in Kansas anymore.

ahahahaha Nag Nag Nag is WEDNESDAY.

suzy (suzy), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

oh I'll go there someday too!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

dirty acid techno or squeaky clean german techno? what is this house of which you speak?

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ummm, not wanting to hijack Ronan's weekend or anything but I was planning on holding a belated birthday pissup on Saturday 21st (birthday is actually the previous Saturday but that is a shite day to organise anything due to it being Valentine's Day), which everyone is obviously welcome to attend. There will be real life people there as well.

Venue yet to be decided, and I am not naive enough to think that I will be in much of a state for Francois K, but any suggestions are welcome. Possibly near Farringdon, although I was tempted by the Waterloo pub we were in on Saturday night, thieving cockfarmers notwithstanding.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

gunmakers is a good boozer near farringdon

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

It would be great to see you Ronan, but i'm sorry, I will not go to Fabric for love nor money (Personal prejudice, ie I think they're cunts, ignore me though.) Will come out before hand/ on another day. Quite fancy thirst as missed teh last one

Anna (Anna), Monday, 19 January 2004 00:36 (twenty-two years ago)

sat 21st is rapidly looking v v busy for me; i've just realised that it's one of my best friend's birthday and it's also the first night of another friend's club night in brixton. so maybe i'll have to give fabric a mix. i'm up for thirst though (as long as they don't piss me around telling me i've given them a tenner when i gave them 20 quid again, obv.).

toby (tsg20), Monday, 19 January 2004 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Sat 21st is my b/day party, yay! Have fun!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 19 January 2004 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

never mind Saturday, everyone's coming out on the Thursday huh?

Sarah when are you and yours visiting London again? eh eh?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 January 2004 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

You talking to me?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 19 January 2004 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

blimey, and i thought february was going to be quiet...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 19 January 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

You talking to me?

i don't see anybody else here etc.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you talking to me?

Yeah we are due a trip, cos we are suffering from severe withdrawal symptoms, but I fear lack of funds may win out! :-( I'll keep you posted though.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

cool, whatever suits people. I think I am going to ASCOT on the Saturday (day) now, better get my top hat etc together.

I'll probably head somewhere clubbing wise Saturday night, obviously when what's on is all known I'll make a decision, if people can make it cool, if not not to worry. Or if anyone has suggestions obviously.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Ascot? dude take some pictures! i can use them for work...naturally i can't pay you, other than in Braxe

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I am so winning money.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

drinks on ronan

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

If you wear the top hat clubbing, I am so there!

the river fleet, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't even have one, I might manage a suit though, once a year type deal.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but it has to have tails!

the river fleet, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

never!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Top hat and tails! I insist! And maybe a moment where everyone bursts into spontaneous synchonised tap dancing! man, if only clubbing were like that.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn I was in a charity shop in saffron walden and they had an amazing 1920 tailcoat and trouser which didn't fit me but would have fit ronan admirably.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

What were you doing in Saffron Walden, Ed? (I think there's a line about it in a Lollies song, but I've never been.)

the river fleet, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

We took, chris and Matt to Jamie Oliver's parents pub (Chris loves jamie) to have lunch which was very good (the extensive vegetarian options amounted to a couple of starters and a main course, though)

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

why does Saffron Walden ring a bell? Is it a last stop on something?

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, its very close to stanstead airport though, next junction up.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Aren't they knocking that pub down to build a new airport? (Not that anyone actually goes on the planes from all the airports they already have.)

the river fleet, Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

It's far too far from the airport to be knocked down, they do have anti stanstead expansion poster in the window

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
Are you still coming then roNAN?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 9 February 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I am indeed. I am not sure if I can fit in an FAP other than if some of you want to come to Thirst on Thirstday, Thursday. But the more people who come along the better!

I think Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon are playing on the Saturday, at the End. Or on the Friday in the second room at Fabric, Erol Alkan, Richard X, and 2ManyDJs. Saturday might suit best, I guess we can discuss it when I'm there or whatever, if anyone's up for it.

I must save money heavily so I can buy things at will without any ensuing guilt.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 9 February 2004 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

that Friday Fabric line-up is still so tempting - see you on the Thursday either way

stevem (blueski), Monday, 9 February 2004 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Even I'm tempted by that Fabric line-up (see old people acting embarrassingly as if they are young thread).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 9 February 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

So I think I'll be in Thirst at about 6.30 or 7 tomorrow, once there's no major delays at the airport or anything.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I was about to ask if this was still on... is Thirst that place on Greek Street we went to last time you were over? Where there was epic thumb wrestling and the DJ played Will Smith?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah that place!

It's a bit "swish" I know but my friends and my brother are playing, it should be a laugh. I don't remember the thumb wrestling???

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Suzy kicked Barry's arse and he denies it to this day.

I am perfectly okay with swish.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, I am really looking forward to seeing you but tomorrow is major clashing with my b-day celebrations. Maybe you want to stop over and see us on Friday, do a bit of Ed cuisine and the like? Get yr. hookups from the Stringent Stepper if you have email issues over the weekend.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I am gigging tomorrow and comedying at the weekend so it looks like I'll be missing out on the voibe. Please wiggle a glo-stick in the air on my behalf, all fun-lovers!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris and I will be at the pillars of hercules further up Greek Street from about 6ish, as it's a little bit cheaper with proper beer, if anyone wants to have a couple in a proper boozer before we head over to Thirst.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds good, and with a name like Pillars Of Hercules i'm not sure I can resist anyway

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't say I liked Thirst much (it's almost as if it isn't designed for middle aged men!), so I'd be up for the Pillars first. I might leave early as that'll be my fifth evening out in a week, and I shall be tired.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

if people are happier in the pillars that's cool, I mean I can pop in and say hi.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like that.

I won't last long tomorrow I'm absolutely knackered after two very long days up North. Yesterday = up at 5, bed at quarter past one, then up again at seven.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll be in the Pillars from about 6ish, although I very much doubt I'll be staying anywhere till closing time, because I R absolutely knackered and also rubbish.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 19 February 2004 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm feeling even more tired today than I expected, so I won't hang around for too long, but I might well make the Pillars by 6 for an hour or two.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 19 February 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh MAN if I'd known people were going to the pub for just an hour or so first, I would have come! I've just this second started to make other plans :(

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Curses also. I have bought milk which I should take home today. On the other hand, I could leave it in the office fridge all weekend, and hence come to the pub for a swift one after work. Hmmmm. Thirst is right out though, eurgh shiny bars.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 19 February 2004 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh right I think I can just about get away with bailing on my other plans - I'll be along to the Pillars tonight for a quick one :)

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i can make this til 8pm or so, fantarse-tic!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm about to leave my house for the airport, but I think I'll be around 6.30 or 7 or something. Depending on whose playing I may come to the pillars then, I don't know what their order is or whatever, I'm out till thirst closes I guess so it's a long night. look forward to seeing people.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

hehehe we are the early kids :)

i'll also pop in for a couple.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 19 February 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll be along early doors, not staying late though (8ish?!).

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 19 February 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I am leaving the office now and am ready for beer, after the dullest afternoon ever.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

me too

chris (chris), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

me too

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Yuck. I am hungover. Going to the pub for just the one and then heading home is not practicable on a Thursday night, and particularly not when trying to find a WAP translation service to discover what 'loyez' means.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

According to babelfish, 'loyer' means 'to rent'. But rented horse sausage makes no sense whatsoever.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Unless it has a string tied to it by the unscrupulous restaurant owner, with which he whips it out of the renter's stomach once the agreed period is over. 'Come in, sausage Number 9, your time is up'.

I feel unwell.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm, try http://www.loyez.com/english/loyez.htm

I too feel too much ruin. Body warmer is evil beer.

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Tasty though. A crying shame.

That's the website I eventually found on WAP last night. A trade name, disappointingly. Rented sausage would be funnier.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:25 (twenty-two years ago)

For much of the night, there were two separate FAPs going on simultaneously, across the road from each other.

I like the downstairs at Thirst far more than the upstairs. Also, it was cool to see Stevem's face when his own bootleg was played at one point.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Now *that* I wish I'd been there to see.

cis (cis), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, I should have popped in.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 February 2004 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Thirst/Fraggle was cool, shame i had to leave earlyish. in the gents toilets the attendant guy has lollies in his tip plate. i was wondering if i were to grab three or four of them Tweedy-style would he have lashed out at me?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 20 February 2004 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry I left so early - my fifth night out in a week, nnd I was utterly exhausted. I only have four nights out planned next week...

Has Tim returned his rented sausage yet?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 20 February 2004 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

in the gents toilets the attendant guy has lollies in his tip plate.

most club toilets in london seem to have chupa chups for the attendants to dole out along with the hand towels. i wish this custom was the norm in new york.
