I'm really surprised there hasn't been a thread about this before. Do any of you recall listeneing to this bearded, top-hat wearing loonie?

It used to be syndicated on CHUM-FM in Toronto, and as a kid I would listen every week, mostly for the "Funny Five". I have a few tapes buried somewhere with a whole pile of Funny Fives. Where else could you hear the magic of "Fish-heads" or "My Name Is Not Merv Griffin".

I think the good Doctor is mostly responsible for the "breaking" of Weird Al Yankovic. Make of that what you will....

Somewhere or other, stashed away on one of my really disorganized CD shelves, I have a Rhino issue of "The Best of Dr. Demento" - perfect for listening to very loudly, while driving through snow storms late at night.

(Hmmmm - now I can't recall just when I last saw the cases for this.)

weird timing. i woke up this morning thinking of the "StaaaaaAAAAAAR Trekkin' Across the Universe" song.

also, i first heard the Zambonis & the Dead Alewives on Dr Demento, so classic.

My personal faves I dug up were from "Marvin the Paranoid Android", i.e. the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy records. As I recall, his song "Marvin I Love You" filled me with a deep sadness. It also has some pretty spiffy electro programming...

Good GOD I see that I've spelled his name wrong. I must now sing "Pencil-Necked Geek" in the street as punishment.

How odd - I was just humming "Pencil-Necked Geek" while paging through the "New Answers" page.
