blu tack and other things that make your day tolerable

i just realised that the two things that are keeping me sane at work this week (other than ilx) are the trips down three flights of stairs to refill my water bottle (and find distractions along the way) and a bit of blu tack that appeared on my desk that i keep playing with like play doh.

is this sad? do you have equally lame ways of getting through the work day?

the guy sitting opposite me has this calendar where every page can be torn off and made into a paper aeroplane of a different design. So at the end of the day he tears off the page, folds it up into a plane following the design depicted thereon and test-flies it off the balcony. Whilst this is entertaining, as I am now his Team Leader and have to do his appraisal I am wondering what I am going to write in the section of the form marked Professional Behaviour....

Classic & dud!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 22 January 2004 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

He does it at the end of the day Mark, it doesn't count really. If he's finished work and there's no one frm outside the company around it really doesn't matter does it?

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 22 January 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Inevitable "I thought that was what ILX was for!" facetious (or not so facetious) answer.

the river fleet, Thursday, 22 January 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

except there are still ppl about Anna and sometimes the planes land on their heads!

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 22 January 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

and it could suggest a number of things about his personality that could be useful at work (everything from linear thinking to playfullness to an ability to follow orders)

anthony, Thursday, 22 January 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Things that get me through the day tend to revolve around ilx, the telephone & texting.

x-post

exactly how many times has it landed on someone's head?

LUNCH!

Luigi Vampa (Horace Mann), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I sometimes get the urge to chew blue tack. I also try and achieve the perfect cube, without blemish or mark. It is impossible, as you get fingerprints on it. It's a very zen habit, I find; I know I can't do it, but all the same I continue to try. That or I'm very bored at work.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha I thought I was the only one who did that Blu Tack cube thing!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

if chances has it that you work for British Aerospace MarkH his enthusiasm may well be a plus point.

I wish I have one such calendar here, or blu-tack -- you can make blumens! Which are like snowmen but made of blu-tack!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

also.. dave B use a ruler! i thought i had a perfect cube once but unfortunately it was rectanglar on one of the dimensions :(

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I make BluMen too Ken!

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have blu tack. MY LIFE HAS LOST ALL MEANING.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Ever do spheres, Matt?

Blu-tac Shape makers, reprazent!

I'd like to add that I am typing this from a train on a G4 Powerbook with bluetooth connection. It is what technology has always promised and now it has delivered. I heart my puter/phone connection.

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

(no, really, I like it, too)

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Spheres are too easy. I'm all about the dodecahedron these days.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I had blu tak but not anymore in the new office. I do have Edward Gorey prints up, though, so I'm fine.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

What is this blu tak y'all speak of?

oops (Oops), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I do cubes too.

I also like to:
a) mock my coworker Steve for his appalling taste in films and women
b) play with small origami objects made for me by Matt
c) eat biscuits

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I may have gone through my life thinking it's spelt 'blu tac' or 'blu tak'. The horror!

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 22 January 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I made a trampoline out of elastic bands and an old sellotape roll. I found my 3-D glasses that came in some medical journal the other day, I must take a look at the 3D Mars Rover pictures on the net.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 22 January 2004 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I make BluMen too Ken!

don't let Dave Matthews near those little guys or you'll be annoyed all day

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 22 January 2004 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaahhh, I used to make these weird Fibonnacci in reverse style fractal towers out of blutac. You divide yer blutac into two balls, and then divide the second into two balls, and put one of those on top of the first ball. Then do the same thing with the divided ball, and on and on until you have this decreasing tower of balls, and when it starts to curve in on itself it looks really cool.
