Why can't you get a minty breath freshening drink you can swallow?

I'm not really a big fan of chew-chew gum, and those wafer thin strip thins scare me - things should not evaporate on your tounge. And I fear my breath may be a bit manky today. What i want is a drink which is refreshing, breathfreshnin' and cool. Why no minty drinks people? At least not ones I can swallow?

(What's the deal with this, its not as if my gut isn't full of plaque and stuff whenever I eat.)

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

some kind of Mejito/Aftershock hybrid cocktail perhaps

stevem (blueski), Friday, 23 January 2004 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

does Creme de Menthe have this effect?

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 23 January 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I assume that most of the non-swallow ones are highly fluoridated or something-ated anyway that would be bad to swallow quantities of. Gap in the market maybe?

Archel (Archel), Friday, 23 January 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I assumed they were non-swallow because they're about 40% ABV.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 23 January 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

???????

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 January 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok, alcohol-ated then :)

Best mouthwash evah! But no you can't swallow it!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 23 January 2004 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

creme de menthe tastes just like mouthwash

leigh (leigh), Friday, 23 January 2004 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

what's wrong with polo mints or tick tacs or something like that?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 23 January 2004 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

CLOVE. OH MY GOD.

Its no Pink Clove, but since that seems impossible to buy anywhere but the Harlequin it'll do. is it bouzy too.

I don't really want anything alcoholic for my refreshing daily breash fresh lunchtime snack drink.

Polo's = Nestle.
Tic Tac's, its like the infinitesimals argument. And I don't really like eating sweets.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

altoids?

you could also go to a grocery store and get some parsley or mint sprigs and chew on those, that helps. supposedly chewing on lemon slices could also help.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 23 January 2004 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

DONT WANT CHEWING.
WANT DRINKING.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

You could make a mojito w/o the booze.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 23 January 2004 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I want the Coca-Cola company or Pepsico to make it for me.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I assume it must be sugar free, right?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 January 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

You're always getting them to everything for you Pete!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 23 January 2004 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The sugar freeness wouldn't bother me, but I suppose it would be consistent.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Ribena!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 23 January 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

some years ago i used to drop pure peppermint oil on my tongue, a few times daily. i swear this built up a critical mass for a sweet minty flavour 24-7...then it was all about maintenance. aveda packages up something similar for a more scientific approach.

petite verte (petite verte), Friday, 23 January 2004 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, and peppermint is very good for your digestion. tea?

petite verte (petite verte), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I might give peppermint tea a go this afternoon. Or chill it in an ice peppermint tea sort a kind way.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

ugh though - tea-breath is even worse than default-breath!

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

WELL INVENT ME A DRINK THEN.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Not as bad as coffee breath!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely said drink would ming hugely if you drank more than a couple of gulps of it?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

If any chemists here can distil the fluoride out of mouthwash, then Pete'll be sorted, no?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

You can buy pepermint cordial if you head down the cash'n'carry.

Llahtuos Kcin (Nick Southall), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

put a load of Trebor Extra Strong mints in a blender, then add solute to ice cold water. It will probably taste like Kayolin, the most disgusting thing in the world (but good for diahorrea, the official most disgusting thing in the world)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I think avoiding sugar is the key. So get sugar-free polos instead and follow the above instructions.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

or what if you boiled creme de menthe to burn the alcohol content out?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Just buy some of this.

Llahtuos Kcin (Nick Southall), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I have some in the bar here. I'll pop down and try it out.

Wait with baited, if minging breath for result posted shortly.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Make sure you drink it cold with plenty of ice.

Llahtuos Kcin (Nick Southall), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark is correct, if you are freshening your breath with mint sweets, they need to be sugar free, as the sugar can turn into plaque, which is the stuff that smells!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Had it without ice, possibly a good thing. Should be taken in moderation. Was quite nice to start but soon made my mouth pucker up a bit. Breath seems notably fresher, though fear effect when used as a mixer may be close to smoking menthol ciggies.

Still not sure if problem solved, but getting there...

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

You could always wear a surgical mask or one of those dust masks from Wickes or equivalent and then you'd not have to worry about offending people with yr bad breath smells or finding the elusive elixir of freshness.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 23 January 2004 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

In france there is a mint cordial that is very popular and also rather yummy. They sell it everywhere, it's called "Sirop de Menthe".

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 23 January 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete is a mentholist

stevem (blueski), Friday, 23 January 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Menthol is different to mint. Duuhhhhr.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 23 January 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Have you considered brushing your teeth?

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 23 January 2004 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Or making a Crest milkshake?
