teeny (teeny), Saturday, 24 January 2004 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Saturday, 24 January 2004 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Every other day - sometimes once a day, if I have the time to let it dry (which takes about three hours). But I shower as often as I change me knickers.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 24 January 2004 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

As it happens, just now, but I was feeling very tired today and wanted to unwind and clean up all the way around -- wash hair, shower, shave. This is a good cup of tea/quiet music evening.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 24 January 2004 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish ned's hair was to washing what the golden gate bridge is to painting.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 24 January 2004 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

It has to be every day if I want to go anywhere public (my hair grows noticeably oily very quickly, within about 12 hours of washing it, and I get bedhead that no amount of brushing will fix)...

Melissa W (Melissa W), Saturday, 24 January 2004 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Shower everday, but only shampoo/condition it every other day, or so.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 24 January 2004 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

weekdays = every day (unless running late).
weekends = only if i'm going out.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 24 January 2004 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Shower everyday.
Shampoo every day during the warmer summer/spring months.
Shampoo every other day, rinse and condition on the days I do not shampoo during the dry winter months.
Once a week I go to a bar and pour beer all over my hair and self.

LiquidTide (LiquidTide), Saturday, 24 January 2004 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Washing your hair is only necessary once a week.
Any less and you're likely to start losing it.

Conditioner is a scam.

kidadinfinitum, Saturday, 24 January 2004 05:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Infamously (on a strictly local scale, of course), never.

Used to actually wear a shower cap in the shower.

When my hair is long, it gets very Pert commercial / male model when it's clean - when it's not, it looks awesome. My dad used to call me Barfly. Anyway, I recently shaved my head to find it covered in nasty rash / acne, had to use that ol' stripper's trick and Witch Hazel the shit out of it just to reduce the redness. Awesome.

roger_adultery, Saturday, 24 January 2004 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

every day without fail.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 24 January 2004 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I wash it when I cut it, which is about once every 4-8 weeks.

I had a nightmare once about rash/acne/fungus shaped like cactus growing out of my head. You sir are living the dream.

Did ya clean your sooooouuulll??? (Or is that sole?)

Every year, I am Eurotrash.

nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 24 January 2004 10:02 (twenty-two years ago)

5 times per week, about.. maybe more, maybe less. whenever i shower, i guess.

Ian Johnson (orion), Saturday, 24 January 2004 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

A couple of times a week, thoigh I do let it get wet in the shower, but like actually using shampoo, just twice a week.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 24 January 2004 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Every day. Alternating different types of shampoo and conditioner.

Snnap Dragon (snnap dragon), Saturday, 24 January 2004 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Every day. I know that probably isn't healthy and all (my boyfriend washes his about once a month!) but every time I've tried even washing it every other day, my scalp goes to pieces, (literally) and I honestly think that dry, frizzy hair is less unattractive than a bleeding scalp.

Wow, my body is just gross.

the river fleet, Saturday, 24 January 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Every day. When I wake up in the morning, I have a crazy bald patch on the side I've been sleeping on and the rest is kind of hedgehog style until I've washed and dried it. I haven't washed it yet today because I'm going to de-mould the bathroom before I have my shower.

Madchen (Madchen), Saturday, 24 January 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Every morning without fail.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Saturday, 24 January 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

you guys and girls wash yer hair too much!

nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 24 January 2004 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Nathalie, I would happily wash my hair less if you could provide a cure which would stop my scalp from bleeding and crusting and flaking and turning into something that looks more like the surface of the moon than human skin every time I try.

(This is the most disgusting thing I've written on this board since the belly button thread.)

the river fleet, Saturday, 24 January 2004 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

So yesterday, then.

Llahtuos Kcin (Nick Southall), Saturday, 24 January 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

every second day or it gets awful greasy looking

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 24 January 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

every day. i used to wash it every other day and put up with slight greasiness rather than dry frizziness, but then i discovered the miracle that is kiehl's conditioner for extra dry hair with added coconut.
kate, it sounds like you need a prescription shampoo.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 24 January 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Why? It doesn't happen if I wash my hair every day. If I didn't wash my face every day I'd break out in horrible icky spots, too and be a total crater face.

the river fleet, Sunday, 25 January 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

six years pass...

I've been looking at photos of my younger days and am somewhat astonished at how sleek, shiny, smooth and utterly straight my hair used to be. Now it's just frizz, where no matter how much I comb in the morning it turns into alfalfa. I've been experimenting with different shampoos, scheduling showers different times of the day, doubling conditioner amounts or not using any at all.

Finally I just decided to not wash my hair for a day - and then 2, and then 3. And what I've found is that I had some of the sleekest, shiniest hair I've had in over a decade... and nobody seemed to make any comments about the "greasy" aspect. It sure felt greasy, but only compared to norm - when actually looking the mirror, my hair only appeared to be moist; but not gooping to the point where I could wring my hair out and make it into butter. Case in point, my better hair days where spent in down in San Francisco where the air is moist - for the past decade I've been living here with Denver, and with it's obvious implications of being one of the dryest cities in the nation.

I've done some research and hear from numerous sources that washing your hair on a daily basis was only popularized in the 80's, when frizzy hair was at its fashionable peak. Somehow that just stuck, and people have been doing it ever since. I'm not one to believe conspiracy theories, but admittedly I have to kick the bucket and say that there is a degree to where your hair should retain some of the oils it produces - and not have them constantly washed away and replenished by artificial means.

I stopped washing my hair with shampoo last Oct actually and it's become my favorite hair ever (I used to hate it). Just thoroughly rinse it in the shower every day (or every time you shower).

A+ grossout imagery, I will now wash my hair straightaway.

17th Century Catholic Spain (Abbbottt), Thursday, 21 October 2010 02:58 (fifteen years ago)

I've posted on other threads about how much healthier my scalp and hair are now - maybe use shampoo (non-sulfate, anti-inflammatory, neem-based) once every month or two, usually just rinse really well every morning. The only product I use daily is awapuhi moisture mist (Paul Mitchell), which is basically water, castor oil, and salt. I still color it, which never fries it anymore because both my hair and scalp have enough natural oil to protect them. It's been 4 years since I started experimenting with not shampooing and it's worked out well for me.

Jaq, Thursday, 21 October 2010 03:26 (fifteen years ago)

I do remember ad campaigns back in the early 70's that focused on washing your hair not just every day, but lathering up twice.

Jaq, Thursday, 21 October 2010 03:28 (fifteen years ago)

i guess i'm gross but i wash my hair every other day. i usually take showers late at night, and my hair is usually really poofy the morning/day after. but the day after that is usually 100x better.

Z S, Thursday, 21 October 2010 03:35 (fifteen years ago)

naked human hands and a foam rubber head (contenderizer), Thursday, 21 October 2010 04:45 (fifteen years ago)

My hair has been thoroughly shitty the last year or so...stiff, dry, frizzy, prone to breakage, every awful thing. I think I should probably use one of these "conditioners" I've heard so much about but I am a dude and basically an imbecile as far as anything past basic hygiene is concerned.

My anniversary is June 2009. It's not for everyone. Some people's hair really does get greasy and awful. Mine was a haystack before, and now it's hair.

when i don't wash my hair at least every couple of days i look like kramer &/or jerry when they had the low flow shower heads
