Is the alternate future presented in "Waterworld" necessarily a bad thing?

C'mon! Ya got boats, giant mutant sharks, water-breathing Kevin Costners! And bald, sun-tanned, eye-patch-wearin' Dennis Hoppers and...uh, not much else.

but the smokers are evil. They're real evil because they smoke cigarettes.

any future with Kevin Costner running the show is far from desirable

Are we going to do Mad Max next? Cause that's the alternate future I'm looking forward to!

is it just me or does anyone else enjoy this film?

On the plus side, however, well, GILLS!!! I wouldn't mind having gills and being able to breath underwater.

I enjoy it, but I enjoy anything with a good adventurer, even if it is Costner. Man, how cool was his boat?

I find the "alternate" in the title to be unnecessary. It is the future! If we don't mend our ways and heal the world.

gills would be k3wl, but an eye on the end of one of your fingers woud be better.

"I can see your g-spot, love! Say hello to orgasms!"

It'd certainly add something to picking your nose.

Whenever it was this movie came out, my young mind thought it the pinnacle of all cinema ever. I haven't seen it since so I can't make a reevaluation just yet.

It's one of those movies that is visually impressive on the big screen but loses its impact when viewed on television.
