"Pasadena"

For some reason every episode of this forgotten American soap opera from about three or four years ago was showing on three subequent Sundays on French TV. I managed to catch all but the first two episodes.

This is a very impressive bit of work I think, a show that until the final 20 minutes or show stays proudly and intelligently within the conventions of the soaper, with perhaps a bit more violence and perversity lurking on the margins (my favorite example is the oblivious young son who sees every family quarrel, no matter how grave, as a means of getting a new scooter or computer)...but in those last twenty minutes it turns into something terrifying and (to me at least) most disturbing, in that it

takes the conscience of the show and intimates her complete corruption. Sort of Bunuelian in a way. I was extremely impressed.

Talk about the TV show "Pasadena."

No the soap opera with Dana Delaney and Martin Donovan and Phillip Baker Hall and Alison Lohman etc.

Has no one seen this?

I thought this was a thread about the DVD release of Depeche Mode's 101. Oh well...

GOOD EVENING PASADENA!

sorry to be such a grouch but i was simply disappointed because no one seems to have seen the conclusion to this show--I haven't been able to find a single review of it on the web, nor has anyone responded here.

i dont care one way or the other about depeche mode.

i've seen it. for a while there, fox was plugging it very hard, and rerunning the four or so existing episodes of fx, like, every day. i thought it was a great show. lotsa mystery, lotsa possible incest, lotsa drama. but i don't think there ever was a conclusion. at least, not one that i saw.

maybe it's only in the european or french version!

i feel privileged suddenly

amateur!st (amateurist), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

the show got cancelled, there was no conclusion. I liked the first two episodes but by then they were already talking of cancelling it so I bailed, because I didn't want another unfinished show I liked to disappear and leave me wanting more.

I've never heard of this show, but it sounds great.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I started watching it too, but it got cancelled before any conclusion could be shown. Since US series go on as long as they can, a conclusion probably hadn't been filmed at that point. It was filmed in Vancouver, except for the bit in the opening credits with the car parked in the covered courtyard, which is Pasadena city hall.

Bit Torrenters of the world I am severely disappointed in you.

And Pasadena city hall is used for Pawnee's in Amy Poehler's Parks and Recreation series. Very photogenic.
