I would have to say that Dorothy (Bea Arthur) wins hands down, though Sophia did have her moments.

is this a Cosmo quiz for determining your personality type?

run it off (run it off), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

fantastic question

i'm actually gonna pick Dorothy for reasons i have yet to fathom. Rose was TOO stupid and Blanche too superficial. but you know where you are with the mannish one.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I would have to say Dorothy! I really used to love this programme!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I always liked Blanche, but this is only because I can see a horrible future where I sacrifice many things to hang on to a bit of glamour.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

lambs? virgins?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Boys with long hair ....

Anna (Anna), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you for being a friend
Travelled down the road and back again
Your heart is true your a pal and a confidant.
And if you through a party
Invited everyone you ever knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say thank you for being a friend.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i like dorothy as well.

although i kind of stopped liking the show at all when my gay roommate watched it ALL THE TIME.

at least it seemed that way.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Blanche, cuz she put out.

Chris V (Chris V), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Rose put out aslong as you were from St Olaff!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Dorothy = moderate. She never goes to extremes but is tolerant of those who do. If you prefer Dorothy you like to think of yourself as the calm at the centre of the storm. You are usually in the right but aren't arrogant enough to brag about it.

Rose = homely. She speaks her mind even when others think that her country ways are better kept hidden. But she sticks to her guns and won't be corrupted by what others think she should do. If you prefer Rose you like to think of yourself as true to yourself first, before being true in the eyes of others.

Blanche = fun. She doesn't give a hoot what other people think she should do. She lives life to the full and won't be stopped by convention or some false idea of modesty. She's out to get what she can because life's too short to be a wall-flower. If you prefer Blanche you like to think of yourself as the life and soul of the party, always the first to dance and the last to stop.

Sophia = strength. Despite her age, she is the first to confront danger (even if she pushes someone else ahead). She has old connections with the mafia and has learnt to look after herself and her loved ones. If you prefer Sophia you like to think that nobody can push you around and that you are a winner, by fair means or foul.

[by the way, anyone know of any jobs going at Cosmo?]

run it off (run it off), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

And dorothy would have given half a chance!
x-post

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

On returning home with a Little League team she’d coached to success --

SOPHIA: Make way for the victors!

ROSE: You won?

SOPHIA: No, Rose, we all went out and got our names changed to Victor.

Charles Hatcher (musenheddo), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Sophia's character has been ruined by the fact that she was in 'Stop or my mom will shoot!'

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

But that is the best cover to anything, ever.

Charles Hatcher (musenheddo), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Stallone on the other hand never looked back

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Please leave this thread!

Pinkmod (Pinkpanther), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Rose put out aslong as you were from St Olaff!

Did Daniel Handler reference this when he christened Count Olaf, or is it measly happenstance?

Charles Hatcher (musenheddo), Monday, 26 January 2004 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Sophia was my favourite. I'm not really sure why though. Maybe because she was the roost-ruler.

fractal (fractal), Monday, 26 January 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Another gay guy in love with Dorothy here.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked Dorothy, since she was written to allow Bea Arthur to do the "slow-burn/deadpan" bits.

Man, could you imagine this sitcom getting pitched today?

Huggy Dork (Kingfish), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

no but in another ten or twenty years, when two thirds of the population are sexagenarians or something, then maybe they'll repeat Brighton Belles

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

run it off, you just wrote the damn cheat sheet for the "Which Golden Girl Are You?" quiz! Now all we have to do is think of the questions... (NB I used to edit the online Cosmo quiz "for clarity" from 1996-1998; strangely I always found out I was a woman)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

you see, they never fail haha

run it off (run it off), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Anybody remember The Golden Palace? Dear Jesus. I think it verifies that Dorothy was imperative.

Charles Hatcher (musenheddo), Monday, 26 January 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

which Golden Girl are you?

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm glad Tracer has posted as this morning i heard about the murder of a man in his early 20s in Brixton last night :( :( :( be careful out there (/morbid scaremonger)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Dorothy. Bea Arthur would put me and my college roommate into hysterics. Okay, we were high, but still. Plus, "Bea Arthur" just rolls off the tongue.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

it's cool dude i know all the peeps at the Hobgoblin now

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a Hobgoblin in Brix? isn't it the goth/metaller hangout?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think Tracer is in his early 20s anymore.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 26 January 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

hands down dorothy. bea arthur lives in glasgow by the way.

saza bob, Monday, 26 January 2004 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

So, by unscientific calculations, Dorothy outperforms the other three Golden Girls combined by 2 to 1?!?!

That's sooooo as it should be and makes my day.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

By the way... the graphic above resembles the sleeve to the White Album.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

er... not the Stallone cover, the quad-split at the top.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Monday, 26 January 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Bea Arthur _rocks_. (She is also a blood relative of mine.)

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 26 January 2004 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)
