Trumpet your favorites, warn us off the dodgy ones with the shady crowds.

Los Angeles

search:
The Burgundy Room: still avoided by those Silverlake Vice whores, good atmosphere, okay crowd, good place

The Good Luck Bar: for weeknights only, since it's too small to deal with on the weekends. great jukebox, feels like a Chinese restaurant, which makes sense since it used to be one, I think

Little Joy: the dodgy Vice whores drop in here all the time, but it has the best jukebox in L.A., you can smoke in there, and it's relatively cheap

destroy!

Short Stop: Greg Dulli goes there a lot and creeps out girls. It has a real bad mojo about it, and ever since they stopped having DJs it's even worse.

Molly Malone's: one half is a reasonably good Irish bar, the other half is a live music room where local sub-Jeff Buckley wannabes ply their trade under the watchful gaze of adoring sub-groupies.

I tried to go to Smog Cutter one time and it was closed. I'll try it again.

Sssshhhhh!!! I hate telling people where the good places are, cause then next time you go back they're full of Japanese design students and/or cunts in suits.

Chicago, Search, in no particular order:

-Gold Star on Division in Wicker Park. Dumpy and pretty unpretentious, with a good jukebox and a fairly diverse clientele.

-Beachwood Tap in WP. Small and dumpy a la a Wisconsin bar, decent jukebox. Hipster central at times, but still a cool place.

-Johnny's on Lincoln just north of Belmont. Big faded Hamm's sign out front. Run by the elderly Johnny, who only opens the bar after about 10pm or when he feels like it. HUGE space, pool table, and often good conversation with Johnny himself. It gets a bit awkward when you're the only people in there, so show up a bit later in the evening. I doubt this will be open much longer, as Johnny is in his 70s.

-Ola's on Damen just south of Augusta in Ukrainian Village. Small Polish bar with a mostly older, alcoholic Polish clientele. Nice for a change of pace. One strike against it is they really need to clean out their coolers -- sometimes the beer bottles smell like a very used wash rag.

Can any Chicago folks offer feedback on the Montrose Saloon (Montrose near California)? They've had WLUW nights there, so I figure they're partial to indie-label music, but I haven't yet gone there since moving up to the NW side.

Chicago, Destroy:

-Any of the Wrigleyville establishments that cater to young-20s cockfarmers and Trixies (Yakzees, Hi-Tops, etc.)

-Can's on Damen in Bucktown. This ilk of bar is a solid reason for moving out of the area.

Toronto:
C'est What: Best Shepard's Pie in Canada. Beer is good but a bit pricey. And its wonderful in everyway possible! Sadly no more chalkboards in the bathroom.

Sneaky Dee's: Cheap, like every punkrawk/mexican food joint should be. At Bathurst & College it couldn't be in a better spot. Have I mentioned the rawk?

Duke of Argyle: Only bar in Toronto that has Clancy's beer. A bit cookie cutter otherwise.

McVeigh's Tavern: One of three seperate Celtic Supporter's bars in Toronto. The only one downtown.

The Beir Market: Over priced beer, horribly over priced food, unbelievably horrible service (if you don't look like a yuppie), but the best patio I've ever had the pleasure of sitting my ass down on. Standard 2 page menu, but apx. 40 pages of beer to choose from. Despite everything its got going against it, the sheer wonderfulness of beer makes up for almost anything. Almost.

The Horseshoe Tavern: Every city has a Horseshoe Tavern, but this has to be one of the better. They also seem to put up with me no matter how drunk I get. Though I SWEAR TO GOD they just got a/c.

RIP: Foster's on Elm.

Moncton: Doc Dylan's despite having some rough times with the live music scene is nice.

Sackville, NB:
If Ducky's ever closes I'll be sadder then all hell. Its a magical little hole in the wall.
