Bruce Lee S&D

After only really seeing Enter the Dragon about a hundred times, I've been very, very happily watching the Bruce Lee boxset that my girlfriend got me for the holidays. Any favorites? I mean, Game of Death is a little low on actual Bruce Lee content but it's got Kareem Abdul Jabbar, while Return of the Dragon has the Bruce vs. Chuck Norris and a kitten fight scene!!

Game of Death is completely great! The low-Bruce content may actually help the film along - it's got a sort of patched-together feel that makes it kinda menacing, you know? otherwise, naturally search Enter the Dragon, repeatedly, while drunk or even hungover. It is the all-purpose film.

That kitten in Enter the Dragon freaks me out. What the fuck? Is it supposed to be God observing the battle of good and evil through the eyes of his cutest minion?

Haha! And I love how the beginning of the battle is all tense, with like five minutes of stretching and warming up and cutting to the adorable kitten, and then the kitten says 'fite!' by going "RREEEAAOOW!"

Oh man, there's some Bruce Lee documentary DVD that has the original uncut pre-death scenes from Game Of Death in their entirety. The fight scene with Kareem is a lot more interesting because it's revealed that Kareem's one weakness is light (hence the bomb-ass aviator specs), so Bruce busts out all the paper windowpanes and knocks Kareem's sunglasses off and he's got EVIL RED SATAN EYES. Classic classic classic.

holy shit nate, this is the most bomb news ever

It's called "Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey" and also has a bunch of documentary footage of Bruce smacking various stationary objects with the one-inch punch and sitting in TV studios looking like a smooth motherfucker. $18 for the DVD on Amazon.

the tone of the wiki on bruce lee is pretty funny

Black Belt magazine in 1985 carried the speculation that the death of Bruce Lee in 1973 may have been caused by "a delayed reaction to a Dim Mak strike he received several weeks prior to his collapse".

Jeff Chang's long in the works book about Lee is out in a couple of days, and he's got a slew of events upcoming too:

Excited, more for the Asian America part than Lee himself (whom you quickly get bored of hearing about once you go down the kung fu rabbit hole); Chang's social history skills are great.

Wasn't sure if I should put this here or look for a Kareem thread, anyway, great read: https://lithub.com/when-bruce-lee-trained-with-kareem-abdul-jabbar/

And the book itself, absolutely stellar, a must read.
