Well?

Hilda P. Ramsbottom, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

My surname's okay for interest value, but not very pretty.

My middle name is Blair. Go figure.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I love my first name. It's perfect. It is the best damn name in the world, if only so many bitches didn't try to share it with me. My real surname, ugh, it's so ugly, I hate it, and it doesn't even "go" with my first name. That's why I have the stage name.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i was going to change my middle name legally over the holidays, but i couldn't decide on any one name. so i didn't.

Slump Man (Slump Man), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

yes

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Your real full name is fine to me, Kate.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark hates Barry

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

... eventually, yes. (in answer to the question)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I keep double taking when I hear my colleague saying "hi Barry!" on the phone.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but my first name is sharp and incisive, like a bite out of a crisp apple. My surname by comparison is like a mouthful of overcooked lukewarm Scottish oatmeal. I'm contemplating legally changing my surname to one of my Grannies' surnames. MacGlashan or Carnegie would be cool.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i prefer my middle name (harrison) over my first name (kyle), but i dont think i could ever get away with asking people to call me harrison.

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

And yet you're fine with Felcher.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

My surname is kind of ugly. I like my first name as long as it's not pronounced with a Pittsburgh accent.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

of course, markelby. it's not like this is real life.

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never liked it, it seems awkward and unloveable somehow.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't mind my first name. It's a little tomboyish (and some people STILL don't understand that Jody can be a girl's name too), but what the hell, it fits.

aleksandr supertramp (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I like my first name, though it could be more interesting. My surname is not particularly pleasant.
TS: Catherine with a C vs. Katherine with a K?

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

My parents originally wanted to call me Casey. Guess they wanted a boy. (xpost)

aleksandr supertramp (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

TS: Catherine with a C vs. Katherine with a K?

this reminded me of the Newsradio episode where Catherine says that Katherine with a K looks cheap and Dave says, "Like that slut Katherine Hepburn?"

Newsradio is out on DVD in a week or so. This is probably very good.

Huck Everlasting (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

it's actually KathArine Hepburn.

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to be called Katharine. The misspellings would probably have been as annoying as the ones I get with the name my parents did saddle me with. I used to like my name until Home and Away started.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

totally!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Not really. Could be worse though.

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

when I was young, I hated it, but I think I've grown into it.

Huck Everlasting (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

KathArine is the korrect way of spelling the name.

the river fleet, Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I've always thought my first and last name were pretty boring, so I often use my middle initial, too. Except then that looks pretentious. I love my monogram, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Also Katharine Ross, which was who I would have been named after...

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

is that Mona from Who's the Boss?

Huck Everlasting (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I lurve mine. :-) It's weird (which results in creativity).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

no, Katharine Ross was the babe in Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid.

Huck Everlasting (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

And Elaine in the Graduate. She was also in Donnie Darko.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Mona was Katherine Helmond.

Also in the "A" camp: Washington Post editor Katharine Graham.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, I like my name.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I like it just fine...but I have to keep spelling it for people who have never seen it written or printed and assume it should be 'Graham' (which is kind of annoying) and pronouncing it for people who have only seen it written or printed and assume it is either 'Gramey' or 'Gramme' (which is amusing).

I got off lightly compared to my brother...

mmmmsalt (Graeme), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

yes and no. it's certainly memorable.

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Catherine with a C is miles better. I like my name but it feels weird saying it.

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Tuesday, 27 January 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I chose my name; so it would be a bit crap if I didn't like it.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Not a fan of either my first or last name. They both end up with such dreaful bogan connotations or nicknames (like "Forbsey" which I cant stand) attached. Trace is also one of the Fat Slags from Viz, which as you can imagine I'm not all that pleased to be associated with.

In the 80s I was going to change my name legally to Jemal Ash. I called myself that to everyone I knew for a few years, and it started to stick.

Then I found out Jemal was actually a muslim boys name, and I thought I better quit it.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

(oh, i hate my birth name, incidentally. particularly the surname.)

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 05:07 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha OMG!

I looked up "Jemal Ash" in google and got this match:

AMG Album Review

Following the collapse of Dali's Car, Murphy embarked on a solo career in earnest, fortuitously hooking up with Howard Hughes, who had been working with fellow cult artists the Associates. With 4AD label head Ivo Watts-Russell drafted in to produce and guest musicians popping in as desired, Murphy and Hughes created a slightly fragmentary but still intriguing record. Caught between his recent past (the use of fretless bass on "Canvas Beauty" was a dead giveaway that he missed working with Mick Karn) and his eventual solo successes, Murphy concentrates here mostly on breaking free of the goth stereotype in which he had found himself trapped. His vocal passion isn't diminished in the slightest, but this time the music over which he sings is generally lighter and freer in tone; he himself handles drum programming, core guitar parts, and keyboard lines while Hughes takes care of the rest. The quietly anthemic title track and "God Sends" stand out as thorough successes on these lines. Two covers also crop up, both worthy of note: A solid run-through of Magazine's "The Light Pours Out of Me" with that band's guitarist John McGeoch; more noteworthy is a fierce rip on Pere Ubu's "Final Solution." The ghosts of Bauhaus do crop up at points, most notably "Never Man," with haunting backing vocals and a generally creepy feeling. Meanwhile, "The Answer Is Clear" has a more direct connection, with none other than Bauhaus guitarist Daniel Ash contributing some fine feedback squalls. Ironically enough, the song itself is a pointed response to Ash's own recent Tones on Tail song "The Movement of Fear," which Murphy took as an attack on himself! ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide

Now thats spooky.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 05:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I wouldn't trust that reviewer, he clearly has an axe to grind! He probably hangs around Internet boards and is smelly.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 05:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I like mine. You'd be surprised how many people misspell it! (Arron, Aron, Erin) My sister's name is Amber, which I think is totally trailer park, so I got lucky.

Aaron A., Wednesday, 28 January 2004 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i like my first name, my last name doesn't seem to fit (the opposite of kate's problem-- kind of fancy first name with bland second name)

i like my middle name, but it's always mis-pronounced and misspelled as well-- baisch.

my brother's name starts with a c as well and we have the same middle name, so we have the same initials. which always confused people.
