I noticed that some of you put comments like "REMOVE THIS" in their email addresses on ILX...

Do you get spam as a result of your real address? Or is there another reason?

I rarely get spam; I don't know whether doing this kind of thing helps, but it can't hurt; it's less effective on ilx where you need to register to get full email addys I suspect, but i do it on other boards.

at the very least, it makes people think a little before they send you an email.

I have broadband and two acceptably good spam filters so I don't bother with the remove to reply stuff multiple email addresses etc. It works quite well. Any harassing email I can blacklist on my mail server. I got 137 pieces of spam yesterday, of which I had to see about 5, clicking the junk button for each one. If I don't have my computer with me I ssh back to my computer and use pine to check my Mail.app mail, so filter still apply.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i need a filter for my Pine. my spam is getting to be over 90% nowadays.

Huggy Dork (Kingfish), Wednesday, 28 January 2004 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

best thing to filter pine is to have something else fetch you mail, and use procmail and one of the many spam filters to process your mail.
