Do you like Seurats work? What do you have to say about him?

Stringent Stepper (Stringent), Thursday, 29 January 2004 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a big fan, I like getting as close as possible and looking at the dots instead of the big picture

chris (chris), Thursday, 29 January 2004 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't really see the point in Seurat/pisspoor joke>

I am not drawn to the depthlessness that pointillism seems to create. Actually maybe I am now. I'll have a think about it.

I don't think of him as a great draughtsman, but I find his work and theories of colour really interesting. What always surprises me is how small his oeuvre is.

I got a question on him right when we were playing trivial pursuit the other night. "Seurat!" I shouted. Unfortunately, it was not our turn, so they had to ask another question. Is it a Seurat Cameron stares at in Ferris Bueller's Day Off?

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 29 January 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Unfortunately, it was not our turn, so they had to ask another question.

Surely in this situation the team whose question it was can just nick your answer? Otherwise teams could always be shouting out the answer to questions they think the other team are going to get right?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 29 January 2004 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes Madchen it is, one of the Seine pictures, can't remember which one.

N. is very devious

chris (chris), Thursday, 29 January 2004 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I just like to legislate for deviousness.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 29 January 2004 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

you should legislate for getting your arse down here to see us.

chris (chris), Thursday, 29 January 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

He should legislate for getting his arse HALF A MILE to see US!

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 29 January 2004 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to nick Nick's devious idea though.

Seurat is indispensible, for without him Flann O'Brien could never have forge the world's wittiest pun, wherein he found an artist's oeurve "more in Seurat than in Ingres."

Aimless, Thursday, 29 January 2004 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

the seurat in ferris bueller is "sunday afternoon on the isle of le grande jatte" which is one of my favorite paintings.

gabbneb, Wednesday, 21 May 2008 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

I had to look at bag twice because of that!

i can't put my finger on why the rules so hard but it does. i guess i've seen pics of the original so often that the sharp contrast is playing games with my eyes.
