I would say it's the Dead Boys 8-track tape, but maybe you know something even rarer...

andy, Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the Merzbow cd stuck inside the Mercedes.

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

andy,

your boss' boyfriend has that.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It's Broheems' copy of the Jimmy Destri solo album.

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

none of these records or 8 tracks are all that rare, honestly.

hstencil, Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil, Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

oh shit, i owe somebody a copy of something don't i...

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

too bad my friend Dante from Chicago doesn't post on this board. He could post about when he sold the La Monte Young reel-to-reel with a handmade/hand-calligraphied by Marian Zazeela box in an edition of 24 on eBay. Or about Highlighters Band 45s. Or the Beyond the Black Crack LP. Or the 45s he used to make the Black Chains and Exhaust comp. Or any number of rare and arcane things that he knows about because he's crazy like that.

hstencil, Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

oh shit, i owe somebody a copy of something don't i...

yes please!

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 29 January 2004 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 30 January 2004 03:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a cassette copy of the original U.S. release of Duran Duran's self-titled debut album. That's one of the rarer things I have. I also have two copies of Nick Rhodes' Interference, which is where he spotlighted polaroids he took ('cause, you know, that's what gentlemen do). That's not quite as rare as a lot of things that could be considered rare, but it's fairly rare for me.

"What is the rarest thing in the world?" Um, normalcy?

Mellow Dee (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

A single plum floating in perfume served in a man's hat.

Leee Majors (Leee), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Rarest thing in the world? A man who doesn't cheat.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Now, now.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I had an 8-track of Patti Smith's Radio Ethiopia about 20+ years ago.

X-posted into irrelevance.

nickn (nickn), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

tell ya what may--if you find one, send him over.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:37 (twenty-two years ago)

The rarest things I actually own are probably things that very few people would actually want. I own an original illustration by Danny Hellman of Iggy Pop and Cop Shoot Cop that appeared in New York Press. He was going to make me a print and then just gave me the original (it looks like this: http://www.thepolywog.com/copshootcop/disc_img/hellman100.gif, only it's about 8 x 11 and is lovingly framed above my desk. That's quite rare.

I do own a copy of Public Image Ltd.'s Metal Box in the actual metal canister.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I think I've got some pretty rare punk singles. And some old BOMP! detritous like Sniffin" Glue (the old NYC zine) all all the issues of BOMP!, other oddities. The Tangible Box set lol. The original Plimsouls Million Miles Away single, dist by BOMP!--come to think of it, a lot of it has to do with never throwing anything away.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a ragged copy of "X-Men" #94 (first appearance of Wolverine, Storm, Colussus, etc.).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! I had all that shit but i got stolen when i moved in 2000. Arrgghh. Xman and Daredevils, autographed. Can't think about it.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

If your DD were the Frank Miller issues, I will cry for you.

Leee Majors (Leee), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. Authographed Elektra death issue. You may weep with me.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Nerds.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Ya want geeky? I have copies of the "Monster Manual", "Player's Handbook" and "Dungeon Master's Guide" autographed by Gary Gygax, Brian Blume, Jeff Dee, Erol Otus and several other dubious members of the TSR gaming glitteratti.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

(I wish I didn't lose all my comics too though)

may pang (maypang), Friday, 30 January 2004 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Leee Majors (Leee), Friday, 30 January 2004 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

What is it?

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 30 January 2004 05:01 (twenty-two years ago)

What?

Leee Majors (Leee), Friday, 30 January 2004 05:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Are Frank Miller Daredevils worth money? I didn't think much Marvel/DC stuff was worth much. Maybe I am mistaken. I still have mine around somewhere.

Broheems (diamond), Friday, 30 January 2004 05:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I would've liked Daredevil a lot more if he had teamed up with the X-Men or something.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 30 January 2004 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Or even Alpha Force.

may pang (maypang), Friday, 30 January 2004 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah Millers are worth something, but just the older ones, from when he started, say maybe up thru his Wolverine series. (there's yr Xmen connection) I had those autographed too, and a bunch of Bill Scenkeiwicz (sp sorry)Moon KNights SHOOT ME NOW must think about something else something else

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 30 January 2004 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG Orbit!!!!

Leee Majors (Leee), Friday, 30 January 2004 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a slew of hardcore and punk 7"s, but it's hard to gauge how rare they actually are. They hang on the wall of record shops like Bleeker Bob's for double and triple digits, but when you try them sell them the self-same slabs of vinyl, they're not interested (or they have shoeboxes literally full of them).

That said, I have the Polly Wog Stew e.p. by the Beasite Boyes, the Halloween single by the Misfits, the first two Minor Threat 7's, the "Nervous Breakdown" 7" by Black Flag, the "Too Drunk to Fuck" single by the Dead Kennedys and the SOA "No Policy" e.p. 7". In retrospect, I'm glad I never sucessfully sold them.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 30 January 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I refuse to sell:
original Dead Kennedy "Holiday in Cambodia" single, on Cherry Red, best mix ever, bought it at a gig before the 1st album came out.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 30 January 2004 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll swap it for a man who doesn't cheat.

(Raggett, get on over there this instant!)

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 30 January 2004 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I have it on reliable authority that the correct answer is blue baloney rings.

Lee G (Lee G), Friday, 30 January 2004 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a Henry Miller book called "The World of Sex".. inside the cover it says "Printed by JHP for the friends of Henry Miller, 1946 - 250 copies - First Printing". It's not signed or anything, but I'll bet you don't have one.

I found it in a box of books somebody left outside of a Salvation Army drop-box. It was too smutty for the SA, so I liberated it.

andy, Friday, 30 January 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

codex seraphinianus-imaginary encyclapedia from another world.

I have a Wm S Burroughs chapbook, but can't remember what it's called. I also have a first issue of Love and Rockets signed by both Hernandez Bros. Paid $1 at my local swap meet (unsigned when I bought it).

nickn (nickn), Saturday, 31 January 2004 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"chapbook"

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 31 January 2004 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh, until about yesterday noon I was the sole owner of the only copies of Various Tape-Rolling''stonians, Vols. Z & E'. Then I copied some more of them and... "poor poor pitiful me" now, bah-blah-boom-doom-d'oh.
(No, not really)

Love shown by humans towards their fellow human seems to get rarer and rarer by the day, sadly.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Saturday, 31 January 2004 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

A lock of Ned's hair.

dean! (deangulberry), Saturday, 31 January 2004 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

To the best of my knowledge there's only one other copy of "Tigermilk" signed by all 8 members of the classic line-up.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 31 January 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C I'm still waiting for Ned to arrive. Did you send him UPS or 1st class?

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 31 January 2004 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)
