For me this is a toughie. Stick to candies exclusive to that country.

USA: Good n Plenty, Chick-O-Stick, peanut chews
Canada: Bigfoot, choclair, real-fruit gummies
UK: Liquorice allsorts, Picnic bars

antexit (antexit), Friday, 30 January 2004 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

good n plentys are so nasty. chick-o-sticks get stuck in my teeth, but are pretty yummy anyways. except i always seem to get the ones that have been sitting on the bodega counter for the past 18 months and are all stale. that sucks.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 30 January 2004 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

USA: candy corn
Canada: maple sugar
UK: Refreshers

spittle (spittle), Friday, 30 January 2004 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

US: i love lik-m-aid/lik-a-stik and charleston chew.

UK: i guess those fox's glacier mints are pretty good, usually i just stick to chocolate. i mean 'stik' to chocolate. ha ha ha!

(i need candy)

one month passes...
We have you all beat with the BIG TURK!!! Now waits for all the Big Turk haters to pile on him.

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Canada: Aero
U.S. no Aero

Canada 1, U.S. 0

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never had a Big Turk.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Get over to the Turbo or whatever store is closest to you and try one!

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, why did db have to bring up Aero bars? I will spend the rest of the day dreaming about them.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't get aeros (and I've had them). Surely more air = less chocolate = bad?

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

but but but... but.... the AIRHOLES!

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

aero is the champagne of chocolate bars

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely more air = less chocolate = bad?

That's like saying soda is useless, because more C02 = less liquid = bad.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

but there's always a pint of beer in a pint! I feel like I'm getting less chocolate in my bar.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

DB OTM. It's a texture thing: chocolate mousse has less chocolate-per-cubic-chocometer, too, but it's still great. (An Aero made from El Rey dark chocolate would be even better than a regular Aero, but that's the tradeoff with bars, I guess.)

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

why not just get a bigger Aero?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

no there isn't, teeny! More head = less beer.

(dan perry/chris v. joke set ups intentional)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Chocolate bars are sold by weight, not volume! Aeros are ok but you really need milk with them.. There are dark chocolate ones, chocolate mint ones, chocolate orange ones and so on. They don't even come close to being as good as Big Turks, though.

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I think this needs to be proven by science (beer-drinking and chocolate-eating).

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

what's your take on the cadbury flake? i am a poet, apparently.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

English Snickers are so much better than American ones I wanna puke, and I did after eating too many, d'oh

what's with Chik-O-Sticks? they're SO gross!!!

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Flakes are ok but weird, like they're dried out.

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't even know what's a purely American candy anymore... Are Chik-o-sticks American?

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

atomic fireballs?

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know if it's the surface area, or just an import/staleness problem, but Cadbury Flake blooms so quickly that I hardly ever buy it anymore.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

canada also has coffee crisp.
(i've never tried a big turk either)

dyson (dyson), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

any love for the Zero bar? How about Zagnuts? Those are the jam. I love both of those after they've been in the freezer for a bit, ooooh.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, UK gets a major major setback for Cadbury Creme Eggs. (Or are those atrocities Americanized versions of superior candies?)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Coffee Crisps are wonderful but just the old school ones. Wunderbars are fantastic as well. Those Chick-o-sticks sound grebt!

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

bryan, do you know what a Chik-o-stik exactly is?

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

it's like the filling of one of our Crispy Crunch bars or a Butterfinger with coconut or some shit. YUM!

Bryan B Sure (Bryan), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

(ooo-k.)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

When I lived in England it seems I ate far more candy than I do here in the states, so therefore british candy/chocolate/etc. must be far superior. During my last week in London I think I survived on Barrett's pear-flavored sweets.

Mandee, Tuesday, 16 March 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

R YUO DIABETECKS?!

Never had any Canadian or British candy to my knowledge.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

fourteen years pass...

is toffee in Britain supposed to be tough but chewy in texture, or is it sometimes brittle, so that it snaps when you bite it? I ask because the toffee I bought at Thornton's in Coventry a couple years ago was chewier than I'd have liked, but maybe that's how British toffee is supposed to be?

droit au butt (Euler), Thursday, 18 October 2018 16:37 (seven years ago)

toffee in britain is generally chewy

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 18 October 2018 16:51 (seven years ago)

the kind of chewy that makes you fear for crowns in your molars

( ͡☉ ͜ʖ ͡☉) (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 18 October 2018 16:52 (seven years ago)

is that powdery dust covering Jelly Babies in Britain supposed to be cocaine because I cannot stop eating them.

Yerac, Thursday, 18 October 2018 16:56 (seven years ago)

hmm ok. I was looking for something more like a Daim bar but bigggggg and without chocolate on the outside.

droit au butt (Euler), Thursday, 18 October 2018 17:18 (seven years ago)

it can sometimes be brittle.

visiting, Thursday, 18 October 2018 17:25 (seven years ago)

chuck it in the fridge for a while

Dmac TT (darraghmac), Friday, 19 October 2018 15:50 (seven years ago)

that's a good idea!

I'm going to Portsmouth and Salisbury in a couple of weeks & if I don't catch Novichok then I'm gonna hit a few olde fashioned sweet shops up yonder waye.
