mark p (Mark P), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

fun fact: he used to post here before he lost his mind/regained his mind.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

A scholar and a gent down the line, one of the original alt.music.alternative crew. Perhaps he's just gearing up for finishing grad school, which makes sense. Hope things are going well for ya, if you read this!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah well. I used to read it every day until I stopped being able to keep up with the philosophy. Always meant to check in more often though. Here's lookin' out, Josh.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Gosh I hope it is not a stick of butter related injury. Good old Joshy.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 30 January 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

he's closed shop before right?

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

He's sort of responsible for the whole damn thing really. This is sad news indeed.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe if/when it comes back, Josh can make seperate hip-hop and philosophy blogs? Although I do respect his attempts at hip-hop philosophy.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I noticed that earlier this week. It was sad to see because it was one of the few blogs I enjoy reading on a regular basis. I love the way Josh writes and thinks about music.

fun fact: he used to post here before he lost his mind/regained his mind.

I don't think there's any question that a good marker of sanity is a permanent leave of absence from ilx.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I should add that he may have been my favorite jazz writer as well.

Okay, no more speaking in the past tense, it's creepy.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 January 2004 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I wrote about this on my blog the other day.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 30 January 2004 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice. That reminded me that I also found ILM from a link on Josh's blog.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 January 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 30 January 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I''m not big into blogs, but Josh Blog was the one I looked at most often.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 30 January 2004 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think there's any question that a good marker of sanity is a permanent leave of absence from ilx.

No hope for me! Woo!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 30 January 2004 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

it's gone the way of goatse.cx

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 30 January 2004 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm another one that Josh Blog directed to here here.

Leee Majors (Leee), Friday, 30 January 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
Underwhelming dismay???

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 1 March 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I basically stopped looking at other people's blogs about a year ago, but this still makes me sad.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 00:52 (twenty-two years ago)

But he DOES still keep a blog. I'm going to email him about this thread.

Amity (Amity), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

no offense to this guy but nothing is sadder than "announcing your blog's death" and then dragging it out for weeks.

NO DRAMA IN THE 04. REAL BLOGS JUST DIE.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck you gygax. i'm leaving ilx.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry mark.

(ps: i can't figure out if this is a joke or note unless this was a play on the drama line, in which case the joke's on me. but i'm very sorry if you're truly that upset!)

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

No offense Gygax, but it surprises me how often people say things that range from 'you shouldn't keep a blog' to 'you shouldn't say this or that on a blog/in a forum'. As if in the first instance blogs are inferior to published journalism, and in the second instance, people should suppress their personal life and stick to music or books or something other than THEMSELVES in the blog, implying that you always have to have some outside authority other than your own personality to make your blog worthwhile. But I read books and newspapers and stuff, and that makes me think that this angle is a load of rubbish. Blogs are easily as interesting, especially when they say corny personal stuff.

Amity (Amity), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I probably should have put 'corny' in quotation marks in my comment above, because obviously I don't find that stuff corny. Honestly, I get as much pleasure from reading someone crying about their girlfriend or their lonely times as from reading a literary critic writing fascinatingly about an atavistic avatar.

Amity (Amity), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

(gygax, i was kidding.)

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 03:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I sorta wish I hadn't revived this now.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

unauthorized update: josh spends his days reading minima moralia & sein und zeit, writing, watching l&o, and eating my fucking ice cream. give him an email, i'm sure he'd love it. except for you gygax, cos yr a dikk

g--ff (gcannon), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

is this turning into indie guilt '04? peace, y'all.

bnw (bnw), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

g--ff,

your brute words have impaled my soul. as a result of your underwhelming dismay, I will be leaving ILX in the winter traversing 2006-2007.

best,

gygax!

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
back?

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 3 April 2004 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope so! I have always loved this blog, it made me sad when Josh stopped doing it.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Saturday, 3 April 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I just remembered I still owe him beer. Is it legal to mail beer?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Saturday, 3 April 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

If it's in a mug that would be a problem, otherwise go forth.
