RFI: Dealing with the pressures of fame

This has really been getting me down lately, but I know I can rely on ILX for help.

So, it's getting ridiculous. I haven't read a single true thing about me in any of the numerous national newspaper articles for months now. I can't ride the bus. I can't spend five minutes doing my groceries without people shaking my hand and/or trying to grab my ass. I'm photographed everywhere I go. I've taken a leaf out of Oprah's book and started paying minions to stand in line for me at movie theaters and theme parks. I've been through three butlers in as many months because I can't trust them not to air my dirty laundry in public.

Luckily, I've still got my friends from the old neighbourhood to help me keep my feet on the ground, and my parents, who are really enjoying the castle on the Cote D'Azur I had built entirely out of meringue just for them.

Still, the pressures of being a sex symbol and a role model are really getting to me. Right now, I just want to be away from all this. Somewhere quiet. Wherever the rainbows are.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Unless you're a royal, nothing can stop you from wilfully slipping into obscurity, should you so choose it. Even if you're a royal, it still is perhaps possible, for that matter...

Seriously, the famous people bitching about being famous line - yeah, hey, you can make it go away, you know?

(Yes, I am aware that this thread was a joke. Still. Made me remember how I felt about this shit.)

Star in an adaptation of a Dr. Seuss book. That should do it.

I am not familiar with wiazrds. Please explain. Curious to see how the meringue chateau fared through the winter. BTW, what did you decide for Euro 2004?

Michael White (Hereward), Monday, 3 May 2004 21:36 (twenty years ago) link

what did I decide? Regarding what? All is lost. Europe will rejoice in an orgy of sporting delight and I shall be on the hamster wheel, slave to the wages that I hold so dear.
