capo on the 2nd fret makes all guitars sound great.

The cowbell gag I like.

None of these have sentimental value!

That book was my bible for four years!

and my capo helps me write my melodies! They're sentimental! Look how sad I look just now. That's my sentimental look.

Does he use a capo?

He does use a strange upside guitar where a D means a G or vice versa. That really threw me, watching him one time.

the bellefox, Thursday, 11 March 2004 17:19 (twenty years ago) link

I have four different capos, in four different styles (the Shubb at the top, a Kaiser, one of the little black ones with the notches, and one of the horrible old-school putty-colored rods with rainbow-colored stretchy material that wraps around).

I recently had three of my capos on my guitar at once, doing some magnificently futile open D tuning.

I bet it doesn't throw a GoD like him.

"Norweigan Wood" would not exist but for the capo. That one on the top is a Shubb, made in Sonoma County. Still the best.

I thought it was a drug -- it has made pf behave very oddly.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 11 March 2004 18:11 (twenty years ago) link

Shubb Capos rule. Hint - capo acoustics on 7th fret and fingerpick - you immediately turn into Nick Drake.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 11 March 2004 19:08 (twenty years ago) link

I wish it were that easy!

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Thursday, 11 March 2004 19:10 (twenty years ago) link

Honestly - just pick quick and chuck in some major 7ths - can't go wrong.

I'm trying to find a way to make capos more punk rock, but it just ain't happening. Maybe I need more duct tape.

how much does a Shubb Capo cost?

kephm, Thursday, 11 March 2004 19:38 (twenty years ago) link

I had a capo, but I never used it. The guitarist in my last band borrowed it, and I think he forgot to give it back. But I don't care, because I prefer to just write songs in keys I can't sing in.

"I'm trying to find a way to make capos more punk rock..."

Pretty sure d boon was the main punk capo guy. I don't know about any others, unless you count the sonic youth drumstick bridge...

andy, Thursday, 11 March 2004 23:07 (twenty years ago) link

everything d.boon did was fucking cool. (except dying.)

that looks like a mad DDR dance routine.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:20 (twenty years ago) link

i bought a shubb last year and it was like a tenner - well worth the money - so easy to clip on and off, and doesn't bend the strings, and doesn't need the world's strongest hands to put on and off (unlike those ones with a spring that look like a gun with a trigger).

ken c (ken c), Friday, 12 March 2004 11:22 (twenty years ago) link

Oh . . . BEBEBE was Nick Drake's fave tuning . . . what is that . . . . don't tell me, it's coming . . .

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:37 (twenty years ago) link

As I say, Nick Drake stuff is fabulously easy to play, once you know what you're doing. It just sounds difficult and cool because of the odd tunings - AND THE FACT THAT ITS PLAYED ON THE 7-9TH FRETS!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:38 (twenty years ago) link

OKAY, and the 4th.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Friday, 12 March 2004 15:40 (twenty years ago) link

He did have some crazy right-hand stuff though. It doesn't take THAT long to catch on but it's maddening for the first thousand attempts.
