Jesus what a nasty week (life), I was walking home tonight and some guy was like "you fucking faggot ajcbbac" etc, and I sort of ignored him and went for a joint with my friends down a small alley.

Anyway I wanted to go home before them and so I began the walk, 2 minutes or so to my house, and the same guy was waiting at a bus stop with two female friends. So he starts joking around and grabs me and is like mock hugging me and shit, at which point I get upset and my bigmouth starts to kick in and I'm like calling him a fat ugly shit and stuff, and being too smart assed for my own good, his friends laughing at him and stuff.

So as I walk away he comes running back and smacks me in the head, and then once more for good measure. Luckily there's some passers by who help me out bigstyle and step in for me. And even more luckily at least the hits he gave me only glanced off my face, so I'm not hurt.

Nonetheless I can't help but focus on the fact that people are such monumental fucking assholes. GRRRRR

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Annoyingly, that sort of thing will happen. My sympathies.

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 11 April 2004 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes drunken twats will be drunken twats eh!

Weird too, in the same week as my row last Sunday, and also after having a long conversation with mates about why I didn't want to go to the local meat market club, basically cos I felt it was full of mocking dickheads. Ah well.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

god ronan, that sucks. i'm glad you are safe and that you can sometimes depend on the kindness of strangers.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 11 April 2004 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

not always I guess. though it's a nice song.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah this sort of thing has happened to me a couple of times in bray - just random strangers coming up and punching me in the face then walking away (i suppose i should be glad they weren't keen to take it further but it's still pretty scary when it happens). it's annoying that this sort of thing is impossible to avoid.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Sunday, 11 April 2004 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, what absolute shitheads!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a fucking bruise on my face now.

(Should I at this point reconsider what I've said on the "men who wear make up" thread?)

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 11 April 2004 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

jesus sorry to harp on about this but I just discovered tonight after I left my friends came around the corner and confronted the guy. and the fucking psycho stabbed one of them with a broken bottle. I can't believe this would happen where I live, like total suburbia, he's ok thank god but that's just luck I suppose. I feel incredibly lucky myself right now.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 12 April 2004 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Grief. :-( Good on yer friends for standing up for you, but jeez, horrid all around. Hope the one friend is okay, was it a bad wound?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 12 April 2004 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

He's ok I think, it seems just a graze but the whole thing is sort of unbelievable and as I said after last Sunday's nastiness caps off a fairly bad week.

It's a no win situation obviously, this sort of thing, you hit back you lose, you do nothing you feel powerless. Anytime anything like this happens I am reminded of the power of violence, it really is scary and wrong, but very real nonetheless.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 12 April 2004 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Where did this happen?

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Monday, 12 April 2004 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Like 5 minutes from my house, I live in the leafy suburbs though.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 12 April 2004 09:52 (twenty-two years ago)

(of Dublin, if you were wondering)

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 12 April 2004 09:53 (twenty-two years ago)

That's really shit, these things should be confined to bars. I hate drunks with a passion, it's a terrible thing to say but I am most wary of them. I rarely go out of an evening - used to, but it is so much safer being a hermit. Why must people over do it and behave like arseholes?

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Monday, 12 April 2004 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

these things should be confined to bars

don't you mean confined behind bars re: violent drunks?

stevem (blueski), Monday, 12 April 2004 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

When he started harrassing you you should have just curtly responded, "I'm sorry chap, but we proud members of the Ajcbbac tribe are 100% heterosexual. Sorry!"

But yeah, it sucks. On Saturday this huge dude collargrabbed my homie in the restroom for supposedly not supporting the Canucks (despite my friend wearing a Canucks jersey) and I was HANGING on the guy's back, at first just trying to choke him but he didn't even notice me, so I gave him a few shots to the side of the face but he was so strong he just warned me to get off him. I didn't, so the three of us just ridiculously rotated en masse around the washroom yelling at each other until three staffers came in and kicked ALL OF US out. The girls we were with were pissed off because they didn't believe we didn't start it and that was our night fucked.

Do you know where he lives? I know revenge is quite un-ILX but I think he deserves some getback.

LC, Monday, 12 April 2004 11:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, he randomly attacked you at a bus stop, of COURSE you know where he lives. Sorry, I'm stupid today. And maybe revenge isn't best - I'm still steamed about my weekend in general, nothing went right.

LC, Monday, 12 April 2004 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I think my friends found out the general area he's from, they thought about telling the police but haven't bothered as far as I know.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

you should tell the cops, bring him down

Nik (Nik), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

and thank goodness, you and your friends are ok.

Nik (Nik), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah not sure where exactly he lives I suppose, also you'd be afraid of getting battered by someone else as a result.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, so would i

but if you do report it as a crime - i am presuming, like in england - the victim gets some money for harm done;

plus if he does it again, then "description fits" etc

Nik (Nik), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

did you ever get MichaelMayer Fabric CD btw?

Nik (Nik), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

What happened to you totally sucks, but I wouldn't say it was a fight, I'd say it was more of an assault or an attack. Boy I remember the days before I had a car, I'd be walking with two girls and a car full of guys would drive by and yell 'faggot' and throw a bottle. Some logic. Anyway I grew up in Staten Island so as soon as I started fighting back I learned that these intimidation tactics are usually used to mask the fact that a lot of these kids can't really fight. I know it'll be the unpopular route here on ILM, but I'd go and beat ther shit out of the guy.

You can also always be clever and send magazine subscriptions to his house, ticking the Bill Me Later box. Send him Home && Gardening and Oprah's magazine. He'll be flooded for years, and the hassle of canceling is a doozy (when it works at all). Then slash his tires. There are also websites that will deliver feces for you. Plenty of passive aggressive methods of revenge if you don't wanna resort to violence. Good luck

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, guerilla tactics / stake outs / booby traps / hackers / raise the dead

Nik (Nik), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes sorry Nik I owe you a CD still, could you mail me your address again? Sorry for the delay, I'm just a bit disorganised

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

this really sucks, ronan, but i think you did the right thing.

quoth kilian: just random strangers coming up and punching me in the face then walking away... is this a dublin thing or something? a friend of mine who went to school there a couple years ago (lived in dublin for 2 years) has a story abt walking home w another dude late at night past a bus stop where there was a big group of dudes (all 18-20ish). after perfunctorily calling them poofs, one of the mob stepped out and decked my friend as hard as he could in the jaw. the two of them just had to keep walking like nothing happened, any other reaction would have made it 10x worse.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know his exact address you see, he lives in a different part of the city.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 12 April 2004 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

um, can you fight? stand your ground, but direct violence isn't the answer. luck has it out for the other guy all too often. you will pull your first punch just as the cops come doen the corner, making you look the goon.

if there is another incident report it to the cops. nothing matter in court but paperowrk it seems.

kephm, Monday, 12 April 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

it could be a dublin thing, this one-punch-and-walk-off business. the irish just want to give people a few friendly digs to the face, but not really spoil anyone's craic, like ;-)

actually i don't live in dublin - bray is in the very north of county wicklow but it's near county dublin. i've never been assaulted outside my home town - my g/f was once smacked by a junkie on the train to town, though. a couple of friends have been quite savagely assaulted on o'connell street - hospital visits, stitches etc ensued - not a safe street at all. hope yr friend is ok, ronan.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Monday, 12 April 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

nine years pass...

Saw a young buck flattened with a lovely 123 combo in the bar the last night, he was yobbishly mocking the retired striker of the local football team whom he had (to hear him blare it repeatedly) overly-adequately replaced. Warned once, ignored it, taken out. Yerman didnt even stand up.

Ah it was great.
