Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

EXTREMELY classic

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Julia to thread!

Leee O'Gaddy (Leee), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

it's easier than scrabble though, imo.

and is there a Q?

i've never seen one played, but a friend swore blind there was...

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

As far as cobbling together words, I'm sure Literarti's easier since you don't have to worry about getting challenged/you don't lose a turn when you come up with a wrong word.

Strategery might be different though, but what do I know, I'm suck.

Leee O'Gaddy (Leee), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

The biggest diffs. are the board and the frequency of letter generation (random).

I say classic, not least because you never know who you're going to be up against next.

Prude (Prude), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, games.com (when it's working).

With Literati, strategy can be a little bit different, because there's different letter values and the bingo value is lower. And yes, there is a Q.

xp classic of course

Someone called me a cunt on there once because I got a few bingos in a row.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it RULES. I've played it WAY too much over the past two years, and am slightly embarrassed by that fact.

And yes, there are Qs-aplenty. And they suck. Damn them to hell.

I'm sure Literarti's easier since you don't have to worry about getting challenged/you don't lose a turn when you come up with a wrong word.

Errr, when you start a table, you can select mode, including whether or not you should be able to challenge words.
Of course, you're still stuck with that damn dictionary.com thing.
Plus it accepts a method of construction that no one I ever play Scrabble in reallife with ever accepts. (namely building words on the row below a word)
i.e. from

ONE

you build

DORK
ONE

Which can sometimes result in some ludicrous scores. Hooray!

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

You can play that way in Scrabble IRL, it's perfectly acceptable. It gives you away as a hopeless Scrabble geek, but scores usually do that anyway.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It feels like I made that post several days ago.
Fllllllllllærlgh?

That being said, I love, love, love how this looks right now:

ONE

you build

DORK
ONE

Anyone want to buy my book?
I'll hurry up and write it if you're interested, because that's just how much I care about my wonderful fans who have gotten me so far.

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

And that's another proud ilx-moment for me.
Dammit.

Sleep!

Øystein H-O (Øystein H-O), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Sux0r, because no-one ever plays with me!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 06:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Oystein, you're nuts, that's totally how you play Scrabble in real life. Though from what I can tell it's a somewhat more common play for people who are just starting to become Scrabble geeks rather than those who are master players. I think.

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

No way!

I would like to mention the other day that I managed to form QUAD on a triple, hooking the A onto ZO to make AZO and scored me a cool 84 points with a mere four tiles.

ROCK ON.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 08:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Also: SOWPODS OWNZ0R!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 08:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I've ranted about Scrabble here before. But it's a leaf-covered path to Hell.

I did play it not long ago, though, after going a long time without playing it, and it was casual and fun. I was frustrated for not getting to play WYVERN when I nearly could. (And that HORSIES* isn't a proper bingo.)

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I always use the same J words, this irritates me. I think JIAO will be a good word to know in my next games. Yes.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Words are GRATE aren't they.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I need to get better at anagramming. I was ownz0red in Countdown the other day to a remarkable extent. I suck.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Words are awesome but the dirty secret is that Scrabble isn't a word game, it's a math game. They're not so much words as they are acceptable combinations of letters.

...in bed. (Chris Piuma), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 08:46 (twenty-two years ago)

CURSES I do not want to be busy at work, I want to be PLAYING SCRABBLE!!!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I played Literati for a while using this cheat. It was terrific fun.
