oops (Oops), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

my mom:
a learning disability (didn't)
cancer (well i already had a bone tumor, and now need ANOTHER surgery, so I guess that is kinda moot)

my dad:
sociopathy (i didn't, but it affected my life in other ways)

everything else is fine

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

--that noise he makes with his mouth when he's working intently

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh that reminds me of the noise my dad makes when he eats. I hope I dont inherit that.

I did inherit his impressive belching prowess though ;D

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't want to inherit my dad's shed full of car parts or my mum's collection of dress patterns.

Personality traits? Physical features? There ain't nothing I can do bout either of those things.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I already have my dad's phlegmy throat after eating/drinking anything cold.

Leee O'Gaddy (Leee), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

on my mother's side - heart disease (killed my grandfather, will kill both my uncles, my grandmother just had bypass surgery last fall)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 05:58 (twenty-two years ago)

--diabetes

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Mom's annoying traits include: smoking, provincialism, endurance grudges with family members that don't toe her line, whining about same to those family members she does speak to, poodle-coddling, still living with my sis like an intergenerational Selma and Patty unit. And *exploding* when criticised for stuff she whinges about other people doing.

Dad's annoying traits: begin with drawing breath. Next!

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 06:30 (twenty-two years ago)

mom: -drug addiction
dad: -pedophilia

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 07:09 (twenty-two years ago)

1) racism such as that i read in a postcard from my mother today.
2) my mum's (and grandma's!) annoying high pitched voice
3) dad's temper, oh SHIT! i already did. *punches wall*
4) mum's passiveness and obsession with her appearance, particularly weight
5) dad's homophobia (luckily no chance of that)
6) dad's sexism (no chance of that either)
7) the heart disease that is rampant on dad's side, (though unsurprisingly it seems to only affect his smoking relatives, i don't smoke anymore but i used to).

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 07:14 (twenty-two years ago)

My mum's eating disorders (bugger!)
My dad's immune system (bugger!)

I'm doomed.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 07:25 (twenty-two years ago)

My dad's collection of Sunn workstations and broken computers. Sigh.

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd rather not die at age 40 like my dad. Maybe I will inherit the live to age 90 genes that are prevalant on my mom's side.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

diabetes (mom)
obsession with money (dad)
fear of change (dad)
mom's "taurus" characteristics (haughtiness, condescension, inability to take criticism or innocent jokes) (i'm not a taurus, i just don't wanna inherit this stuff from one)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

too late for me.
I mean, I got all their worst genes, not that they're dead, cuz they're not. THey're pretty young and healthy actually.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

1) bad circulation and teeth (in the last couple years they've really gone downhill though)
2) laughing way too loudly - I stop myself when I notice
3) loss of idealism

Maria (Maria), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Father:-OCD
Mother:-Possible dementia

Both parents:-Jewish clubbyness
-extremely conservative politics
-viewing "hard work" in general as having intrinsically good value (haha, you got me)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

can i have the camo shag rug?

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

15 years ago I'd have said baldness. Ah well.

More realistically, I'd like to avoid the descent into hellish, decaying old age which all 4 of my grandparents have suffered. I'd also like my parents to avoid this too - I hope they die in their sleep at 80 and never suffer a body that doesn't work any more or a mind that destroys their excellence.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus this question is kind of badly timed for me : (

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Dad - crohns disease, extreme mental illness, unfaithfulness
Mother - general wackiness

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

About the only thing I can think of is the prostate cancer that has run in all the male Raggetts for some generations now. But I'm aware of it and will keep watch.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Baldness - it runs on both sides of the family so I'm pretty much doomed to be well on the way by my late 20s.

Crackity (Crackity Jones), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

can i have the camo shag rug?

how soon can you be here?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm adopted, so know next to nothing about my biological parents. The people I think of my parents have countless bad traits that I wouldn't want. I guess my mother's malice is the main thing I'd like to avoid, and I think I've managed that pretty well so far.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

cancer
classist snobbery

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

paranoid consciousness of the financial value of things

matthew james (matthew james), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Fear of trait inheritance.

Michael White (Hereward), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

(I suspect it's too late but) I really don't want to inherit my mum's teeth. They've been her biggest financial drain over the last 20 years - she reckons she'd have been able to buy a couple of decent new cars for the amount of cash she's has put in her mouth.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 15 April 2004 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

my mums chin. i hate it. it hangs and i get annoyed when i look at it

CAss (CAss), Thursday, 15 April 2004 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Bad dancing.

Disco-Barima (Barima), Thursday, 15 April 2004 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Mum: Horrible osteoarthritis that will probably knacker her knees completely fairly soon. Slightly aggravating meekness.
Dad: Terrible terrible dandruff. Singing folk tunes with an awful Irish accent.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 15 April 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)
