Lying About Movies

Do you ever lie and say you saw a movie just because you get so sick of explaining that you haven't seen it? For me it's Dazed & Confused.

"Dude, you haven't seen Dazed & Confused??!!"

"No, I saw it... of course, I was pretty wasted at the time, but..."

And then you go on and laugh along as they relay the best part of the movie that you've never seen. No one must know my terrible secret: I never saw Dazed & Confused.

"have you seen the movie with meryl streep and the horse?"
"yes."

Wouldn't it be great if you started pretending you had seen the film "Zelig", in order to appear more sophisticated than you actually are, and then you turned into Zelig, because that's exactly the kind of thing he would do?

You obviously haven't seen Zelig.

I have never seen The Goonies. I just smile politely and try not to look utterly confused as people shout "Chunk!" randomly.

I have never seen Titanic or Dirty Dancing but frequently participate in conversations about both of them.

I did this with Titanic ("Ugh, Titanic") and when I finally saw it it was even worse than I'd projected. I was better off pretending.

haha, same deal here with titanic! and the matrix.

I wish I could've lied this one time, not about seeing a film, but about my views on a certain flick. You see, I had a semi-date with a girl I had recently met. We both talked how we want to see "Dancer in the Dark", and decided to see it together. After the film was over, she was in tears.

"I thought it was an incredibly sad and great film", she said. "How'd you like it?"

I was thinking hard: "Should I lie to her?". But the thing is, I really can't lie, I'm terribly bad it.

So I told her the truth:
"I think it sucked."

She was like, "Oh. Okay.". After that, she decided to go home.

Should I have lied to her and said, "Oh, I though it was so sad and great too. Can I cry on your shoulder?". I don't know.

No, she sounds like a crashing bore.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i like to pretend i never saw pulp fiction.

dyson (dyson), Wednesday, 14 April 2004 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never seen the Goonies and I'm sure I've pretended otherwise. Conversely, I have a small sense of pride at having never seen Titanic.

(someone very close to me does this about a certain movie but I cannot reveal her secret)

>So I told her the truth:
>"I think it sucked."

>She was like, "Oh. Okay.". After that, she decided to go home.

This is exactly why I never get laid.
