What are the best internet radio shows for music. I know there are thousands of them out there. But what do people listen to on a regular basis for good, new, funky music. I need to seperate the wheat from the chaff. To start the ball rolling the one show I usually listen to weekly is Sean Rowley's Joy of Music on BBC Radio London.

www.wfmu.org is amazing, espically since they archive almost all their shows and playlists. There's a search function, too. Days of fun.
I'll also second www.eastvillageradio.com and plug the gf's show Thursdays 8-10pm EST. Very ILM friendly as each week, the playlist is set according to subject matter. (all songs about rain, all songs about dogs, etc) I think tonight's theme is "cocaine." Should be a blast.

Here is some more shameless self-promotion:
www.sr.se/p3/pop
2 hrs once a week and you get to hear some exotic Swedish between the tunes.

suzanne best be playing Renegade Soundwave's Cocaine Sex.

My favorite online radio station, in addition to the aforementioned WFMU and EVR, is the C-B-S Cybernetic Broadcasting System.

House, techno, electro, disco, italo-disco, freestyle, bass etc.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 15 April 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

1xtra has great shows online.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 15 April 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

P.S. 1 --the contemporary art center in NY--is starting an internet radio station on April 19th. Lots of talk shows, but it sounds like they're also gonna have some interesting music programming--organized by Elliott Sharp.

oh! i had an EVR show, but then not anymore. i used to play twee-pop and techno.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 15 April 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn.... this cybernetic-broadcasting is fantastic. Oh and they do indeed have tracklisitngs on their site. Rad.

I've found EVR pretty hit and miss (Dan and Dan excepted of course). Too many dudes doing funny voices and acting like no one's actually listening.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 15 April 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

because no one ever was listening! to my crappy show anyways

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 15 April 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah but you gotta act like the whole world is listening!

I kind of want a show but that would mean updating my collection and um having time.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 15 April 2004 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

duke mission, Thursday, 15 April 2004 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I shall try! I'm EVR's #1 fan I think!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 15 April 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Thing about 'net radio is you know exactly how many people are listening (well connected atleast).

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Friday, 16 April 2004 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I have this idea that when I finally get broadband at home I'll listen to internet radio all the time. Not necessarily for the music - I like the idea of lying back listening to a local station in Dunedin and imagining I'm there, with the weather reports and events news and all.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 16 April 2004 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Put on ambient beats (somafm) in winamp, put on christian sermon show on media player, get caned, play with volume controls.

thirteen years pass...

Can anyone recommend a very good internet radio player? Not willing to pay thousands, but less than £200 is enough.

Two Meter Peter (Ste), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 16:46 (five years ago)

OR

would it actually be better to get some shit hot speakers that can connect to my PC and just play the internet radio from there?

How reliable are bluetooth speakers? In terms of losing connection

Two Meter Peter (Ste), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 16:59 (five years ago)

For me, I've never understood the value in a dedicated internet radio player device as compared to just getting a really good bluetooth speaker and listening via smartphone. For 200 or less you could get some pretty nice bluetooth speakers, I've never had connection trouble with any of mine unless I walk them out of range, which is probably 50 feet or so.

turn the jawhatthefuckever on (One Eye Open), Wednesday, 4 November 2020 17:49 (five years ago)

I've been happy with the Sangean wfr 28. it cost about 125 us dollars. there are def some annoying things about it but i like having a dedicated device for radio listening. it sounds decent and has a lot of capabilities. issues: 1. often needs to be rebooted at startup cause it lost connection. only takes a minute. 2) could use more presets though it stores an unlimited number of favorites via the web which can be accessed using the only slightly cumbersome menu system 3)last year the company that maintained that web database went bust and for a few months those favorites were gone. a new site has since been created to manage them.
